So with my B5 A4 Quattro Sport, I proved the V8 does fit the B5 chassis, with minimal effort.
Following the success of Outlaw's new V8 heart, I have the pleasure of doing another V8-into-B5 project. Oddly enough, it's another widebody, this time though, the project is different - it's the same AHC S8 32V motor as mine, but there the similarities end.
It's a front track, it's retaining the original 5-speed 012 tranny, and it's going to maintain the OEM S8's Bosch Motronic ECU and harness, which means no MAP sensor, and it'll be running the standard MAF.
The base car is a Ming Blue Pearl 1,8 T Sport. I spent the day prepping the bay for the larger block, removed the 1,8T motor. Mounts are already available for the V8 / B5 integration, it will also be running one of my flywheels, a single-mass 7,2kg unit. In my car, there is no chatter, even when loading the tranny from low speeds, in any gear.
I'll keep you guys updated via the usual write-ups and pictures, stay tuned!
Meanwhile, could a moderator please move this to the Projects section? Thanks!
That RS4 conversion is f'ing sweet. A better swap would be a Quattro conversion and the choice of engine would def need to be FI. Not my car, so that was just my 2 pennies worth.
Side note: These are old pictures, before the current owner got his mitts on her. She looks very different now - no RS4 badges, now sporting 1-piece ecodes, and M3-style trunk lip.
Siena- any plans to do a kit for purchase with instructions so others can tap into this? I would love to get my hands on a B5 chasis and build myself one of these
It's the customer's choice. It's widebodied, so the cost of building another onto a quattro shell, especially the rear quarters makes it expensive.
This makes no sense. He doesn't need a new car, just the manual parts. I would assume after spending the money on a project like this he could drop another $1k on a quattro drivetrain

One can never decide what makes sense, when the money comes from someone else's pocket.
Buying the quattro drivetrain for $1k is one thing - how much would you quote a customer, to convert a B5 FWD to quattro?
The extensive labor involved - cutting out the rear floor pan section, making jigs so the shell doesn't fold once the floor's cut out, welding in new section - including the inner rear arches, which are different between quattro and FWD, getting the shell aligned before seam welding and installing the mechanics.
You're looking well over $3k for labor alone, this isn't a B6 / B7, where there's no such thing as a quattro shell - the bodyshell's common to both FWD and quattro, and FWD cars have the mounting points for quattro components.
Anyone who says converting a B5 FWD to quattro is a simple bolt-on job, or quotes labor less than $2.5k, hasn't a clue what's involved, or hasn't examined a B5 FWD floorpan in any great detail.
Way different from the B6, the B5 rear suspension is completely different from the FWD to Quattro. Siena, looks like you are working quick! What is the estimated completion time?

And discovered the mounts I had made for my own car don't line up with the I4 set-up.
Not sure if it's due to the different subframe, the front engine support fits though. So Monday, will see if my guy can rework the existing ones, or I may need to supply him with new mock-ups based on the B5 4 cylinder.
