How do I add Sirius to my 05 A6?

Just picked up a 2005 A6 3.2 with navigation and when I go to select Satellite on the radio the screen states that satellite radio is not installed. What do I need to buy to get it active?

    Thanks in advance.

I just went thru this recently. I looked up the 800 for Sirius online and told them that I want a subscription for my car. They asked the id# that's below channel 1 iirc and they sync'd it up and it was working w/in a matter of minutes.

If your car doesn't already have the sirius tuner itself, you will need to get that, and the antenna, and then install and activate it.

Thanks. Where can I purchase the tuner and antenna? How much do they run?

You can usually find oem sirius tuners on ebay.

You need to find out if your car is "sirius prepped" though.

So I've just realized that the Sirius tuners are ridiculously cheap.

I'm operating under the impression that my car is wired for SAT...it's a 2003 S6 with a shark fin and this is my radio:

Is there a good reason not to get it, even if I don't activate right away?

So I installed the Sirius tuner I bought a few weeks ago.

Piece of cake (mounted it on the bracket) but have a question.

My concern with Sirius has always been the sound quality. Sounds like a low bit rate mp3 file from my LimeWire days.

Does the sounds quality improve with a subscription (I'm still in "preview" mode) or a "better" package or is that it?

Not sure how I feel about spending even $15/month for this quality.

    thanks!

In my experience, Sirius sound quality is garbage no matter what subscription you have. It does sound better than the preview channel (184) but still not great.

    Greeeeeeeat.

Thanks for the response. Guess I should have trusted my gut. Anytime I've heard it (in a rental car) it sounded tinny and shallow.

Thought by now they would have advanced the state of the art.

It's weird to me. Some factory cars with factory Sirius that I've heard sound just fine, but most don't. From what i understand it's all the same signal, so I can only guess that certain radios are auto-eq'd in a way that makes it sound not as bad.

I might need to tweak it with the tone controls then. Anything with higher frequencies (the cymbals on the "Metal" channel)....sound terrible....talk sounds ok but was hoping for something more than the "Book Channel" out of this addition.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

(If that doesn't work, I'll buy an exhaust system and listen to myself pounding on the V8 instead.)
