Felt the need to bump this thread because I found the holy grail. As I've mentioned in a few threads now, including this one, I've been trying to find a paint or vinyl option to match the polished aluminum finish found on the S cars...

Yessir. Let me just say that I am extremely excited with how the parts turned out, it's a near perfect match! The materials aren't cheap, and I just hope it holds up well to the elements, rocks, etc... *fingers crossed*

Glad to hear that the materials are not cheap since I just invested in the real deal mirror caps.
But I am curious what you "aluminized".
Front splitter? side sills? shark fin?, door handles?, valve stem caps....

One of the above items is correct...but which one? And you may have seen from one of my other posts that I'll be doing the front grille trim next. So stoked!

My guess is the side sills to match the rear valence treatment!

That way the car will be well rounded down there!
Damn, you're good! I'll probably get some flak for it, but I think the polished aluminum finish looks great with the white. Once I tie it all in with the front, it'll be perfection.

If you have been following my other posts, I definitely have some wierd personal issues about mods! I have been searching for the perfect plate frame to balance out the rear end, cause right now it looks off to me!
I wish I had the ability to say @%#& it! sometimes, but I don't.
But I agree, on white, the aluminum finish blends very well. So well it is hard to get it to photograph sometimes. thinking outside the bun will always get you flak from somebody, so no worries. Be sure to include how you attached these side sill / rock guards since you mentioned you might not use the clips.

any DIY for these housings? I was able to take off the mirror from its place but as for the housing itself, im not sure where to pull and what not. Dont really want to break anything. it comes out of place on the bottom but not sure how to do the top

No DIY, I just used a few words of wisdom from Anthony who swapped his mirror housings a while ago.
Once you get the mirror out and unhook all the cables, in order to remove the housing itself, I recall there definitely being two clips near the bottom, but above the turn indicator housings. If you stick a small screw driver and gently push towards the front of the car they should release. Also there was a torx screw which I removed closer to the inside of the car. Then just kind of wiggled and squeezed the mirror cap until it obviously started to come loose, then just kind of worked off the base that way.
You will then need to unscrew the turn signal housing from the mirror housing.
It is a very snug fit with little wiggle room, so you won't really bend anything provided you are careful with the two clips mention above.
Getting the housings back on squarely took a couple tries for me, but I realized lining up those two clips once again made everything align correctly. Careful not pinch any of the mirror or turn signal wires, they can get in the way.
The first took me about 20 minutes, the second ten. Then going back to adjust the first correctly after figuring it all out on the second took two minutes.

Assuming you are talking to me.....these are OEM caps that I got from the dealer pars department. You can also get them from many audi parts retailers such as oemplus.com, but usually for a couple hundred dollars more.
Or if you pay for my flight and put me up a couple nights in a beachfront hotel, I will gladly hand deliver a set to the Cayman Islands for you!

Sorry to bring back this old thread, but was looking at the parts myself. Did some digging around and found the following (in case anyone need it in the future)
Part # of MY2009 S5 Aluminum Mirror housing w/lane assist cutout

I have a 2011 A6 and just purchased AUDI OEM S6 Mirror caps, can someone tell me the procedure for removing and replacing the old mirrors with the new ones?

Thank you
Have you checked in the A6/S6 forums?
Might be a whole lot different than the B8 A4. (The tricks and tips for successful uninstall/install could be different)

Pics to come tomorrow.
bump...can you elaborate this polished aluminum finish?
Thank you for the links Anthony. I am impressed how a painted product can replicate an aluminum finish so accurately. I am assuming its the Kosmic Krome product that was used. I may consider painting the wheel arches of the new allroad (if i decide to get one later this year) this color to match the rear valence.

Sorry it looks like I never replied to this. Yes it's the "Kosmic Krome", the "Aluminum" finish I believe.
