I have a bunch of maintenance that requires a pretty decent familiarity with the B5 S4 that I might not have time to do myself. I want to find a shop that knows what they're talking about and may help me diagnose some problems (failed airbag module and ABS module...even though I replaced them both...whats wrong with my suspension, possibly replacing my fuel pump...etc..)
I use AutoEngineering in Lexington. Not sure if that's further for you, but they are awesome. They know their stuff and seem fair with their pricing. The guy at the Desk is Chip. Here's their link http://www.autoengineering.com

if you don't mind driving up 95 for 30 minutes i would suggest East Coast European in Greenland NH, 2 min off 95. They did my engine build and turbo kit. Not to mention all the maintance stuff for me. Highly recommend them. Mark & Mark are honest and have fair prices! Plus there is no tax in NH.

Yeah I've taken my car to Brian's a couple of times. Very knowledgeable people. No BS and very practical in their approach to cars. They will get the job done and make sure it is done well. I had them replace my downpipe after it snapped on the interstate. At that point, I didn't even know what a downpipe was, but they helped me explore my options and suggested that I get the techtonics DP even though it would mean that the car would sit there a while longer while they waited for the part. Very happy with the result and the service. Good people.
Also been to Lee at Advanced Technologies and would recommend him as well. He did my timing belt and swapped out my brakes for me. Very happy with the work there.
yea, I've used Brian's before, and agree with what vlad said, though I have to say in a few of my dealings with him he's been kind of a douche, so unless he's next door to you, try one of the other shops people have mentioned.
there's also Wooding's Garage in Allston, I took my car there once, they seemed like nice guys and a few friends with Audi's get their work done there, no complaints, but don't think they do much as far as performance stuff, and I don't know how they would handle a car with lots of aftermarket mods.

If you want someone closer to town, try Vinnie's Auto Sport. He's a block from the Lechmere stop on the Green line, tracks his car, and is cash only :-) He did my timing belt and charges very reasonable rates.
i was also going to mention the garage in allston. great place brought my a6 there WITH parts and didnt charge me much

everytime I read these threads I see the same places being mentioned... but every one of them is north shore. any good shops south shore? specifically for timing belt job
Same here BostonUSP, I'd recommend Motorcars International, its south shore off of rte 24. Took my 944 there for timing belt, reasonable. They've turned into a bit of a dealership over the past few years, but Greg is the big wig mechanic there, extremely knowledgeable(with EVERYTHING German).
Haven't had work done to the A4 there, try to DIY that one as much as possible.

The only VW/Audi independent shop on the South Shore that I know is Murphy Brothers in Quincy. Had my A4 in there for timing belt service. At the time, I had a $200 off coupon so it was actually a pretty good deal.

I had a bunch of other items to do but I believe the timing belt service was around $900 with the coupon. Had the service done in April.
FYI - That coupon is still on their website
