Audi a6 cold start..

Sorry about posting too much, but when I cold start my audi 3.0l it kinda sounds like a diesel, and the rpm is like at 1k somthin.. but when it is warmed up at idle it is below 1k.. And when the belt is squeeky do i just need to change it.. (serpentine belt).. thx.

It just "rattles" for about a second untill the oil pressure builds up in the valve train. Nothing to worry about. And yes if the belts squeak just replace them...or it also may be caused by a belt tensioner getting ready to go bad.

Then the belt gets loose, starts slapping around and then falls off...which means no alternator, no water pump, no ac, etc.

sport265 don't listen to AWT, he has his own issues. What you are experiencing is normal, just the secondary air system kicking in.

when i had my a4 3.0 it always sounded like a diesel lol, and yes the ticking is perfectly normal at start up as others have stated...
