    52k apr stage 2 for last 8k, Metal was thin, to the point i could make it flex with my pinky finger and started to fracture from one of the four holes. all is well now with a shiny new part.

    Here's a question without making a thread.....I'm at 64k miles, never changed it yet.....What would be some symptoms thats its time to get it changed? Car has been running sluggish lateley, sounds like the engines working harder too.....Prolly time to get it done, does that mean I just bring the TSB to the dealership and they take it out and replace for free? I mean I got no CEL, but I just feel like its gotta be time to change it....Maybe I'm being noobish and wrong in my stupid assumption...clear this idiot in the right direction please Ziners.

    Just unplug the hpfp for a second run your car till code then take it in with everything reconnected and get yourself some freebies

    I don't know about all that, but, you should probably just check it yourself. You'll have a very hard time getting the dealer to check it with zero fault codes. But honestly, if you wait til you have fault codes, it's too late. This is kinda like the timing belt. It must be replaced BEFORE something goes wrong.

    Rodmar... just go to the dealer, tell them that you want the HPFP checked, if it's deemed okay, you'll cover the labour/parts (might as well replace the cam follower at this point, call it preventative maintenance), however, if they find that there is damage to the lobe/HPFP, then the parts/labour will be handled under warranty. If you get this done at an independent shop and there is damage, keep all parts and then submit a warranty claim to AOA.

    Why not. all your doing is unplugging a sensor, your car will begin to idle roughly and finally throw a code for the fuel pump. Forcing audi to open it up and check to see whats wrong. when they do if there is nothing wrong just pay them to put in a new cam follower which will cost you a couple bucks but labor is on them. IF and big IF there is something wrong they will extended warranty replace cam follower, cam and so on.

    Did this with a buddy who was interested in buying a used GTI from a private party, proposed the idea after we pulled the follower and discovered the destroyed cam lobe. Talked to the owner and we all agreed the logic was sound. Engine starved for fuel for a second tossed a code plugged it back in and of course the light disappears but the code is stored. Took it to local dealership and they replaced the cam and hpfp for free.

    now again this is just my .02 but it worked for us. worst case scenario they find nothing wrong and you pay to have them put a new cam follower in.

    But I'm just some dude on the internet don't trust me. I am in no way responsible for your car. You are! so I strongly suggest you do your own research. but this is how I solved a problem I was presented with. An idea not a guarantee.

    Just replaced mine, Chipped at 29K and now have 52K on the clock. I drive pretty hard, enough to have already gone through two axles! I expected it to be much worse. Better safe than sorry though.

    Just replaced the cam follower finally while switching my hpfp for an APR one, first time doing it myself. Definitely need to do it more often, think this one had about 35-40k on it which is wayyy to much. Luckily no damage to the original fuel pump!

    At 198,000 km the car was running fine, but my cam follower was a mess. I was 6,000 km past Audi's warranty, so I contacted Audi Canada to show them that the damage clearly started before the last 6000 km. No dice. I swapped the fuel pump and cam follower, and gave it 7000 km before opening things up again. I assumed the cam lobe was damaged, but was surprised to see the second follower looked pretty good. I swapped it out anyway and gave it another 15,000 km. The third one came out a little more worn, but still had some decent thickness to it. I swapped it again this weekend, and will give the new one 20,000 km. That should be in about 4-5 months. The car is stock.

    Just got around to finally looking at mine. Car is a 2006 A4, quattro, tiptronic, and has 74,000 mi. at time of replacement. I've owned it since 65,000 mi. and had no prior maintenance records...

    Looks pretty good, huh? Not at all what I was expecting to see. I replaced my coils and plugs at this time due to misfire issues, and I also changed the fuel filter.

    The day after I swapped followers the car threw a CEL and I about poo'd myself, but it was running awesome. phew, seemingly unrelated.

    P.S. That banjo bolt sucks

    Just replace my cam follower for the first time. Its a 2008 with 77k miles on it. Its been APR stage 1 since 25k miles. Follower and pump are in perfect condition. Since I was in there I replaced it with the new one I had on the shelf.

    Replaced mines yesterday. 72k and it looked decent. Was not that bad of a job. The bonjo bolt was actually pretty simple for me. I had a harder time removing the high pressure hose for some reason. Next time should be quicker. All liked good. I'll post a pic of the actual follower I took out in a few but here is the "wear"

    I have only had this car for about 6 weeks, and took a gamble. The price was great, but I had no follower history from the PO.

    I changed out the follower the same week I got the car.

    What a relief.

    I think it's safe to say that this is not the original CF on this car.

    Replace your N80 valve and I bet that code goes away. It's easy to install and only costs about $20.

    Was just doing some searching prior to doing this job today, as I have a 2008 and had read that later models don't have the pesky banjo fitting that seems to give so many issues and ran across this DIY. Didn't search through every page of this thread to see if someone had already posted it up, but hopefully it helps someone else out as it answered my question about the banjo and relieved a little anxiety about doing this for the first time today. My car has 81k miles on it and I just bought it, so this is basically the first mechanical item I am going to do with the car. Wil post up pics later of what mine looked like. Happy viewing!

    Just did mine for the first time using the video linked above. Car is an '08 w/o the banjo fitting so was able to follow the video exactly and it took me (all anal organizing and fumbling aside) about 30 mins. Super easy and was very happy with the results. For reference, the first pic is of the new follower I ordered form JHM for $35.

    The following is a few pics of my follower at 81k miles. As I said, I really had no way to know if it had been done previously (bought the car a week ago), but looking at the condition of this one, I will assume it had been. The black protective finish was worn off the face and the machining worn off the body of the follower, but otherwise it was in really great shape!

    replaced mine a week after getting the car with a 105k on the odometer. Little rough on the follower but the cam looked good.

    Replaced mine tonight on my 2008 B7 with 123,842 miles. No symptoms of failure but I wanted to have the peace of mind.
    Here it is, not bad at all, and the cam lobe looked great.
