FWIW, an old friend of mine did serious prison time for pulling a shotgun on somebody. Granted, he got caught with a bunch of other (banned) weapons when the cops showed up, but still. It was one of the charges. His bail was $250k and i think all said and done he did 4 months.

you kids and your guns... that's a great way to get your ass thrown in prison for a long time. if someone is attacking you...
1. punch to the throat (ever been punched in the throat? hurts like crazy). great opening move that gives you control from the start.
2. at that point, he will grab his throat and open his mouth. elbow to jaw (use your fist and have his teeth cut up your knuckles, no good). the elbow is the hardest part of the human body.
3. while his gut is now slightly forward of his body, flying knee to the gut
4. the knee to the gut will cause him to topple over and you will still be in the air. while you are coming down, strike down on the crown of his skull with your elbow. this will put a huge point load on his skull. This will also potentially crack his skull open. This is an old middle of the jungle thai technique.
5. if he doesn't fall to the ground at that point, knee to face.
5. then, take your fingers and put them underneath his rib cage. grab his rib cage with your fingers. this is very very painful.
6. while you have his rib cage, kick his knee with the heel of your foot hard enough to hyperextend it and potentially break his leg at the knee.
These are some simple self defense maneuvers that I figured out after getting my ass beat a few times by guys talking shit and pushing first. they are VERY effective. remember this is street fighting and self defense. THERE ARE NO RULES. shots to the groin, biting, eye gouging, etc are all legitimate moves if your life is being threatened by another. You are legally entitled to defend yourself if someone attacks you.

From an outsiders perspective (Canada), where hardly anyone owns a gun (other than hunting rifles), we barely have any gun violence, the casual way you guys talk about guns and such is a bit unnerving :S
