Not sure how your setup looks like:
x pipe (no resonator) then into 2x magnaflows 12226?
I need to get my sound up at least a bit (currently NOTHING; pre cat delete, main cat delete, rest stock).
Traditionally: scared to get rid of resonator (has turned too many of my exhausts into 'cheap coffee can sound'. But if your setup results in 'nice burble': could be what I am after
(love the sound of the Miltek we have on the B5 A4 1.8T (3" dp, then Miltek cat back): just the right level (not load, but noticeable) and tone (deep and rich). Just cannot spent the money to get it on my 2.7T.

Really, pypes? I'd like to hear this. I know its nowhere near the same sound, but pypes always sounds better than magnaflow on mustangs.
Just a random video from when I was testing out the camera on my new phone. i was trying to NOT piss off my neighbors at 7am, so i kept the revving to a minimum.

Hey all! Spent a lot of time lurking here, first time posting.
I've got a 2001 A6 2.7T Quattro 6-speed manual and I've got it stuck in my head that I want some exhaust noise from it.
I've read through all the pages here but I'm a little overwhelmed with all the different setups and options so I'm asking for some advice.
Everything is stock right now. I'd like a some noise from it, and would definitely like to hear it when I get on the throttle, but I definitely don't want any drone, my last car had drone with what I did to it and it drove me nuts.
So something simple and relatively inexpensive is what I'm looking to do, for now anyway. Maybe a muffler replacement, but which mufflers?
The tips are currently stock hidden which I would like to change but I'm somewhat hesitant to cut into the bumper myself, any easy solution for that?
WANT. Did you have that custom made? Or are those generic cutout sections?

Anybody here running an APR turbo back exhaust without the center resonator on a 2.7t?
Thinking of deleting the resonator on mine, but would like to know how it sounds first.....

TripleG recommended 034 for downpipes and I am quite happy. The shop had to do a tiny roll on the pipe for a tranny mount clearance issue but it all sinched up quite well. Had 2 broken studs but were replaced quite easily. I went with the Magnaflow cat back system 16493 for the A6 2.7T and fit was fine.
If any of you decide to go with 034, let them know what size exhaust you are going with after the midpipes as I had to mod my pipes after the cats. The o34 down pipes and mid pipes are very nicely constructed.
I have SSAC downpipes from 3" to 2.5". Right now I'm running just DOWNPIPES! No midpipes, cats or anything. Hopefully tomorrow I will be getting the midpipes on and getting 2.25 or 2.50 straights all the way to the back to 3" "tips". Gotta cut the valence. Will post before and after videos!
started mine yesterday. Finishing it Monday. 2.5" Magnaflows, X pipe, with cut outs, eliminated main cats.
Are you planning to remote open the cut outs?
If so: manually or somehow programmed (RPM, boost, load; not sure if that exists)?
Can you post your sources/prices?

Currently they will be manual only. I'll have to crawl underneath and undo the nuts by hand. I only plan on opening them at track for now. Next year I will grab the QTP electric style and Id like to use one of the dead buttons on the dash for actuation. I got everything from Summit. Currently I'm at around $600 retail, I got everything at cost so I got about 35% off that.

Going to be running the SSAC Downpipes, no resonator, 2.5" inch piping all the way back to the magnaflow muflers I got with the 3" tips cut into the stock pre facelift bumper
hi, all, I need some help, I'm trying to learn all about the exhaust setups.. I'm trying to figure out if this is my catalytic converter or just a factory cross over box.. either way its pretty rusty on both end.. here are some pics.. this is for a 2002 audi a6 3.0 avant
here is the one of the rusty spots .. if its just a box I'm sure I can get one of the x-cross pipes to replace it
here is the front of it
here is the view at the drivers door looking back.. trying to figure out where the catalytic converter is on my car..
everything else is good shape, just all the welds around this muffler box are breaking down fast.....
Your main cats are right after the flex (braided stainless) joint at the front end of the car. There are also pre cats in the down-pipes which you can not see as they are between the flex joints and the turbos. After the main cats towards the back of the car you will find the resonators which are really a muffler designed to tune out drones.

so I take it this is the factory resonator box??? if so then i'm in better shape than I thought.....
I read through all 9 pages yet i don't see anyone even mentioning the Flowtech Warlock mufflers.
The nice part about them is that in the same muffler you have a 3 chamber and a straight through design.
Add and electric cut out and you can choose your "poison" :)
Specially on a V8 should sound nice.
Will do that when i get the maintenance out of the way on mine....
All you gotta do is add dual 2.5" tips on each side
Problem with the Warlocks is, why even have a cutout at the very end of your exhaust? Kind of defeats the purpose of an open exhaust if it has to travel the full length of the system. That and they are a turbo style muffler, just awful for flow, especially for a turbo car. Save that muffler for the Camaros. Yuck. :(
