My window is stuck DOWN, won't roll up! HELP!
So I have a 2004.5 Audi A4 1.8T FWD USP. I have 102k mi. I had my window regulator replaced at 60k mi. Everything was fine this morning when I left San Diego. Nice cool weather.... I got to Yuma AZ and it's like 100 degrees right now. I parked my car at the golf course, cracked the windows with my remote, golfed and then got back in a few hours later. I attempted to roll my drivers window up and every time it got to the top it would roll itself down 4" or so. I held it at the top for 10 seconds, let go and it would go down 4" still. I repeated this 4-5x and then I decided to go all the way to the bottom and hold the button down for 10 seconds. I let go and now it wont go up at all. I drove 15 miles to my hotel and its not going up. I shut my car off and turned it back on, it won't go up.
It wasn't making any window regulator kind of issues before (grinding, uneven roll up, slowness, etc.) I got here. Could it be the regulator? Could it be the motor? Could it just be I got on it so many times I need to let it chill out? Could it be the 100+ degree heat? W T F? Thanks!

Window Regulator or failing Motor. Take off the door panel and Investigate. The pane of glass could have come off or out of its holder also.

it sounds like the clips broke or came loose, and holding the button or pressing it lots of times might have bounded up the regulator...probably need a regulator

Hey Agro, how's the car running aside from the window problem? Try sticking your key in the door and rolling the windows completely down and back up from outside the car.

So I went to dinner and came back. I can roll the windows up from the key in the door, but with the key held all the way over they still immediately go down 4". I go in the car, put the key in and hold the button down for going UP. They stay up. I held it for 30 seconds. I let go and they come down 4". So weird. The windows sound great and feel great. no slowness, no binding, nothing like what I had when I had to replace both my front window regulators. This is weird.

Its engaging the pinch protection, for some reason its lost its programming. What you need to do is roll them all the way up, and hold the button up, roll them down and hold the button down, then roll them all the way up again and hold the button up again. They should now be set.

I tried it again today. It is staying up and going down appropriately. Thank you for the assistance guys.

I know this thread is 2 years old.
I have the same issue with my B5 S4 where my rear DS window if it goes below half it won't go up all the way before it winds itself back down.
So from what you are saying is that it is engaging Pinch Protection?
Therefore all I have to do is put the key in my door and wind them all the way down and hold, then roll them back up and hold...my system should be set!
Or is that I should use the master control on that rear door window?

hey, no problem with bumping an old thread if it's relevant. in cases like these it's better then making a new one.
you want to use the master control on the door of the window with the issue (don't know if the drivers switches will work but should).
it needs to learn where the top and bottom of the path is so open and close it a few times. just like when you unplug your battery and the auto up / down feature doesn't work until you use it for a bit.
