    225/45/17 drag radials

Well since you guys tend to run 17's too for drag racing I thought I would let you guys know about this.

I just got a brand new "test" set of tires from Hoosier in 225/45/17 since my BFG just dont give me enough traction. I asked Hoosier about making this size tire since no one really makes a good drag radial in 17's that is smaller then 275. They already had the molds so they said they would be more then happy to do a set and then start production after I give them some feed back from testing.

These are DOT competition legal but are not Street Legal.

Turns out these are nearly exactly the same size as my BFG's which means my gearing shouldnt change all that much, if they do it will be slightly shorter gearing which is fine with me.

The following pics were taken just after putting the wheels back on the car, since then the car has settled and the gap has returned back to normal.

I have also asked Hoosier to see about making a 245/45/17 since that is a tire that plenty of EVO guys are interested in but wasnt sure if it is a size you S4 owners might be interested in.

Just like it has been the last 8 years I have been drag racing this car.

I will start with the tires pressure up to see how low I need to set them to get the traction I need.

Oh snap, I just looked at your location and realized that you are in Socal. I thought you lived in the Bay. I guess it would be waaaay out of the way for you.

One day, when I have money saved, I will be in contact with you in regards to getting some info on custom CF doors. So sweet.

Cool, if you do hit up sac raceway, let me know, I'd love to come and watch the beast in action.

Only other Audis I've seen there was 2 weeks ago, a noggy B5 S4 with GT28s (pretty much what I want to do to my car, but I'll resort to GT25s after some thought) that broke his rear diff (said he broke the rear axle a couple weeks before when he was at sac raceway), and a red A3 ATP tuned which ran low 13s, could have hit 12's.

No, not Jason. It was an Asian dude. Cool guy. I think he said he's from Folsom or Fremont. He's car is cosmetically stock, including the wheels. From the questions I asked, he said he does most the work at a friends garage/shop and custom tune, stock internals. I think he was boosting mid-high 20's.

Was pretty funny, he said when he launches, he closes his eyes and when he opens them and he's moving, he gets on it. If he's not moving...something most likely broke.

Don't know, I didn't catch it. I was in the same lane as him and was running back to my car to get ready to drag, but my friend said he ran around an 11 something on the first run (just before I got there) which the guy didn't do too hard, probably to get a quick. Second run, he broke the rear diff, so he cruised the down the track to go park, so obviously no legit time. I hope when he fixes it he'll come back to the track one day to see how he truly does cause I want to see if I should go straight to GT28s. I don't want too much lag time in lower rpms.

For sure. It would be cool to set up a meet once a month on Wednesdays to have people drag race.

If anyone heads down there, hit me up cause I'll automatically say yes and meet you there(except Thursday nights...and Audi meets). The auto shop 3 or 4 houses down from me takes their GTR and Z06 there a lot. So that's always fun to watch.
