Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***
Issam,
Since we have to use the S4 ECU to run the dash, is there any way to program the stock ecu so the dash board doesn't look like a Christmas tree?. And also, is there a way to program the ECU so that we go for inspection, it passes?
Meaning..
I've heard of some software tuning out the O2's, but is there a way to tune out the sensors that would normally fail in inspection being that were swapping in the Vr6 and no longer running the 2.7tt
Like I'll run the stand alone for the motor, but is there a way to trick the ECU into thinking there's a perfectly running S4 motor running that can pass inspection computer?
Again, thank you for your time. Its very much appreciated.

Thanks
01A can take 400whp and infact can take 600whp but it depends on the user. Each user is different and if you dont want gear guts all over your driveway then go with a 01E right off the bat. They are getting cheap enough now.

Thnx.. The only problem is that S4 tranny's are not very available in the islands, and I still need a rear diff to make it work.. My car is a A4 not a S4:(

The 01E trans is in MANY vehicles and dates back to the 80s with Porsche's 968. You should be able to find one.
Do it right, or don't bother.

The thought of having an easier motor to work on in my car is amazing. I hope the pricing works out to be not much more than going Stage 3 along with the normal maintenance stuff.
I hope the 24v swap will be a full kit that will somehow be street-legal in California!

I ordered my engine cradle on Monday from 034 and once it's ready, the rest of the parts will be shipped with it. I already have the VR6, turbo, and wastegate. I can't wait.

Might be a dumb question but; why swap into a heavy body B5; isn't there a lighter / cheaper vw/audi that could swap the VR6 into... maybe like a mk2 / mk1... I know it's been done 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000x in those cars, but why into a b5.

Ah... AWD.. Ic.. well Mk4... R32.. Just slap a turbo on it, and calll it a day... IMO if your buying a B5 S4 to be the fastest car at the track your dumb. I love my S4 cause it's the best of both worlds.. quicker then 90% of things on the road (STG3) and looks better then 99% (again IMO).

There's been plenty of people that have dumped VR6/R32 engines into Mk1-3s, and with AWD in the form of Synchro or the Haldex setup. However, it is well documented that the TorSen setup is by far superior, and I don't believe Haldex can support torque levels that people are or are going to be achieving. We just started getting R32s into the 10s and people are having problems eating gears, but that depends on the driver mostly.

That's why I said fitting "our" AWD...no1 wants the shitty electronic haldex.haha
Be on the lookout for a twin turbo R32 motor in an imported 2-door A3

When I say that its not really going to be an S4 I am not bag'n on this idea I love this swap. I'm just saying once you do the swap its not like you are going to be able to market this car as an S4 anymore as a car for resale. To people in the Audi community its going to be one bad ass car. To most anyone esle its going to be a jig saw puzzle. So the idea of going with a salvage car is because its not going to be much more then that retail wise once its done.
Also know that not all salvage cars are salvages because of frame damage and I think if looking for a salvage car this would be a very important piece of information .

The logic is; unless money isn't an object for you.. your spending double sometimes triple someone in a car half as light as ours & half as cheap to maintain.
The b5 isnt a track car IMO.
Not that it isn't possible; just not logical.

Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***
I want a 01E drivetrain that is functional, that is why I'm buying the car.........
Honestly, I think a B6 & B7 looks much better than a B5, but my search is for a donor car equipped with the right transmission and no structural integrity issues that may need $$$$ of bodywork...........
btw - If this swap goes down, I don't ever intend to sell it, tryin to relate economic returns to modifying vehicles is useless............
If we all thought about economics regarding cars, everyone would drive a Kia Sorento...............

Can we keep the this thread on topic. This thread was created in order to satisfy any questions regarding VR6 swap into a B5 A4/S4, so lets keep it that way please.
BTW, Issam, any progress with that Modified Harness for the S4?

AGAIN,
I fail to see that Logic...
One of the best handling chassis's to come out of Germany and you do not think it is a track car?
B5 chassis when prepped properly will out handle any Subaru or Mitsubishi EVO & BMW M3...
That is not a rumor but simply FACT.When I was looking to build a track car I could have bought any chassis under the sun...I chose the B5.
Even Javad's A4 on Koni's & lowering springs tugs the corners like it was a GT3.Simply amazing chassis's when done right.

how much power do you plan on pushing through this setup as a DD?
Issam, do you really think this swap is worth it if you're only going to be running 500hp? The engine management/tune alone will cost $3000+.

You want 24V Andrea
12V V6 harness can work direct back on a 12V VR6 motor.

Sorry didnt see this.
It really depends on you the user.If you are looking for 500hp then the tial kits would be a better option (as opposed a K04 upgrade)

I would put money down that a fully race prepped S4 will be better than any M3, EVO or STI also. Didn't PATsocal and Tomasz@startupracing argue with a couple of M3 guys back in 2005 or something on AW that the S4 chassis was superior also. I recall that thread being like 19 pages long. Simply put, Pat Lindsey in his S4 has been wiping the floors with everything he's been up against. I think he even called these Beemer boys out and consistently was faster lap after lap than all of them. I also recall that the Champion S4 and RS6 walked everything also, including the factory backed BMW's. Not bad for a race team backed by a Florida dealership and not a multi billion car company like BMW.
