Ya I completely agree with that too. Preferably I would love to have a v8 turbo but a temporary vr6 (cuz after vr6 Im sure I would still want to step it up to a v8) would be nice too or possibly just getting another b5 to do both lol!

okay i have a question after reading all the posts, pertaining the 24V conversion, would it not be easier to customize the hood to create more room for 24V and R32 head? would that not be a lesser headache then grinding down mounts? i dunno, just an idea, don't really know how practical it is

Probably be easier to modify the hood, however you run the risk of ruining the look of the car, or making a wierd looking hood for the sake of a little trimming of mounts.
IMHO....Trim the mounts. What do you have to lose?

if you're worried about grinding down mounts, then you probably shouldn't be trying to do this.

Well I'm sticking with the VR6, but your idea of having two b5's, one with a v8 and one with a vr6 sounds very nice, and expensive..lol

well i wouldn't mind going the route of a custom CF hood anyways, so it might be an option to change the profile of the hood, i guess its a question of personal preference, i was unaware that it was just minimal trimming, obviously its 120% easier to just shave some metal, i just assumed from reading through this thread that it was a much bigger issue
okay so another question, so since the engine mounts need shaving and the engine moves lower, how does the tranny take this? does this not require the lowering of the transmissions aswell? im just trying to understand all the fitment

The trans will just angle down in front and up in the rear slightly, there is plenty of room in the channel for this, i checked on my own car after cutting the mounts.

Keep In mind I am talking about the 24v vr6
No, the amount the engine lowers fortunately the tranny needs no mods.
Its not a huge amount that the engine has to lower. with the 24v you will have to get custom coils so this way the hood clears. or if you really dont want to trim aything, modify the hood or have a CF one made..
Biggest issue you will have is deciding whether or not to customize your stock harness to run the motor (splicing a vr6 harness with our stock ECU), or going stand alone and having christmas lights on your dash board. I say this because this is my only issue... Everything else is cake to me.

yeah I think when i get around to this Im going to go custom hood direction just to be different i mean it all depends how the designs will end up looking...ohwell time will tell.

Just take your time, ask as many questions, and plan everything out. I mean shit will happen that you idn't plan and you have to be able to tackle it, however try to get a good idea what you before you dive into this.

Too cold to touch that thing, broke a couple axles and threw it in the garage. I have custom axles i just received from A1CVtech that should do the job. Should have the car out once it warms up a little bit.

Agreed! lol probably way too much money especially considering I got one year left til I am out of college and really want to start looking for a house too. I would much rather have an r32 24v motor though if I were doing a vr6 swap so I think I will probably pass on the vr6 block but it is such a great deal it just got me interested again. But I think my heart is more into swappin an ls2 turbo into the car after driving my dads ls2 gto!
Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***
Didn't put the clips on. The R32 would clear mine how I have it set. Pretty sure I also have room for the clips. I also didn't have to remove my sway like the other guy. My whole goal is to make the setup require the lease amount cutting and what not....kinda hard to describe that when we're talking about this swap because it's probably the most scary one to get into lol

Last few days before I leave NY, was going through my fone today and found some pics of when I shipped my baby and the Daily VW to cali back in december.
Re: *** OFFICIAL VR6 -12V & 24V FAQ and Info sharing ***

^agreed. Having a tuner tweak the ECU is probly the easiest sollution. Integrating the VR harness and the b5 harness so everything works perfectly is more time consuming, but definately possible.

It's not even that bad, it's only a couple evenings worth of work. All you have to do is de-pin the OEM harness(injectors, coils, crank sensor(if its not the same plug as a vr crank sensor), and cam sensor essentially) and re-run the wires and re-terminate the wires to r32 coilpacks on a 12v, or obviously 24v coils on a 24v. The only tricky part, which I just thought about now is that the s4 has 2 cam sensors. Tricking the ECU into ignoring the second sensor might be a feat. Cam adjuster plugs can simply be ignored. other than that, OEM wiring would be fine.
