i have never readjusted mine, but then iagain i dont get much mileage haha. solid lifters take a fair bit of time to set up initially, from scratch. but once you are there, it is there.
right now i am clearancing this ported AEB head for the BIG IE solid cams. the intake cam needs cleared for all lobes going into and out of the lifter bore, as well as underside of the cam caps. lift is the name of the game. i dont know if the exhaust cam needs anything yet, one stick at a time.
i dint have to do any clearancing with my CAT solid lifter cams, and its exhaust cam is even larger than the IE cam is. so i think i will be good on it.
Yeah, and I imagine that the consequences of a misadjustment are a little more severe when you're spinning at 11,000 as opposed to a street vehicle between 7000-8000.

Very interesting progress with this thing! I have an SEM manifold on the way right now. What throttle body/TPS (brand, size, etc.) are you using with your SEM manifold? Looks like it was a direct bolt-on?
Also, any specs you can provide on the IE solid lifter cams or is that still hush-hush?

as far as the TB, i run a standard BBK/Summit 75mm unit made for a Ford mustang, with a standard Ford TPS and no IAC. all run by the Autronic SM4. and it is a direct fit, i sent SEM the TB i was going to use and they made the necessary adjustments for it. then i had to make the bracketry to hold the cable. done.

So, they drilled the holes to mount your specific throttle body? The one I am getting is already tapped for an 80mm throttle body. I just want to make sure I can get a throttle body that will bolt on. I am going to be using Autronic SM2; so DBW is not an option.

yesterday, Justin came down to Speeding-G60 Race Team HQ today and we spent the whole day redoing the entire boost piping, utilizing Linder Power Systems custom couplers.
we welded onto the turbo compressor outlet, the A2W intercooler inlet and outlet, even cut off and welded on to the throttle body.
it was a longish day of fabrication and welding, and it looks kick ass. i had a MESS of little horseshoe shaped niblets of aluminum pipe laying around when i was done from the constant nibbles and cuts, etc.
THANKS JUSTIN!!!!!
had a fat 3 lb Rib-Eye lunch and beers along the way. when welder comes to you, then feed him you must!
and this is the coupler and how it works.

while moving stuff around, i found a lil cut on one of the slicks so i had to get 4 new ones.
installed the new turbo finally, and put on the 1.25 A/R hotside. old turbo turns out was only a 63mm unit, new turbo is billet 67mm. also added a line to log backpressure to the ECU, we can tune for changes at the dyno/track.
just going to start with the 1.25 housing....
but i needed to clean it up a lil, for some reason these BW turbos are kinda rough in the hotside inlet. lay on gasket, scribe some marks, and get to grinding.
Left to Right 1.25 ****> 1.10 ****> 1.00
Billet is cool and shiny and stuff
i already ported this housing long ago.
fair bit of material to get out of there
almost done
VIOLA!!!!! should flow much better now....

i have been busy, and am not really doing too much on the car forums anymore. i still am, but nowhere near as much as i used to. i put that stuff up on my FB and my FB racecar page anymore, and my own website.
but i cant wait to run this car again this year!!!!! its going to haul serious freakin ASS!!!!!!

All of it is looking way awesome! Those couplers are pretty bad ass.

THANKS!!!! i try. the dogbox was custom made for my own gear ratios, determined by my Tuner Kevin Black. based on things like weight, tire size, power, power band, etc.
got a set for an I-5 that are unterminated and longer so i can put the coil further away.
but i blew an FSI coil on the dyno that night, on my first try @ 40psi. it popped at around 375 awhp/375 tq, and i put a backup set of 115r's in and it went fine for 737 awhp/568 tq. got home, discussed the CDI, and bought it when Kevin said he had it lined up and ready to go. i dont want to be popping coilpacks on the track.

Every time I look at this thread, it makes me smile. You're doing some awesome work man!

Also, for your motor's main bearings, are you running channeled bearings on the bottom and smooth bearings on the caps or is one of your top bearings channeled too? Basically, Are you running 4 smooth and 6 channeled main bearings? If so, which cap do you have a complete channel on?
"You know you have a bad idea when Ford guys are making fun of you."
Chris, i run a complete channeled setup on #3 main.
and i did some more stuff.... i changed the VC up because i went to an Autronic CDI and plug wires with Bosch Motorsports coil. i wanted a cleaner run for the plug wires, so i whipped up a different VC. also eliminated a couple of the breather ports, i dont need that many i dont think. dont ever get a drop in the catch can now so.... also, redesigned the catch can, but its still getting built.
also, i got the dogbox in, and did some no-clutch, no boost (not even piped in) quick shifts. i cant wait!

had a freaking TERRIFIC EVENING ON THE DYNO!!!!!! driving into the trailer tops ALL.
but, got some good solid data... and ended up 759AWHP/554 tq @ 38 psi, that is more power (22 hp) and less tq (14 ft) but with 2 psi less.
changes were old turbo had cast 63mm wheel and 1.10 hotside. new turbo has 67mm billet wheel and 1.25 hotside. we did log all of the runs for backpressure and will be looking into that as well.
pass 4
pass 5
then us being us, we deciding to forego 800 AWHP in favor of a 4 gear bash clutchless shifting. and its gonna be sofaking BADASS!!!!!! 3 days! we even turned the boost down in each gear, specially the 1-2 transition. 3-4 was pretty much as it will run.
pass 6
and yess, that is a 40 psi gauge. it holds right where the tuner Kevin Black says to hold it.

ran a new best. even with sun directly in my eyes....
but 9.78 makes this car the quickest Audi 4cyl Quattro drag car in the world at this point in time. not bad for a random guy who build a car in his garage at home, i dont think.
and we were running less boost on the track than we were on the dyno, as well.
