After much time, effort and money on my last build I finally lost a cam gear and decided that spinning through the traps at 140mph was not for me. I'd much rather have a fun street car that would actually hook and not just roast to 110mph on 18psi on the street. Let's just say that got old after a while.
I picked up a 2000 a4 and have already begun hacking into it. This thread will be a walk along with me through a build of a 700awhp 1.8t a4.
I've parted out my jetta, and sold off the shell. Sad to see it go but its about time.
I picked up a 2000 a4 and am going to pretty much throw everything into that with a whole slew of custom bits to make it to my liking. The car itself is not pretty, but at this point I don't care.
First thing I did was gather parts from the jetta, and everywhere else to piece this thing together. Putting them all in 1 place makes me realize how dumb I truly am. haha.
The car will be running on the autronic sm4 that I had in the jetta, and I've already hacked up the OEM engine harness to bits.
This is whats left of it:
That's pretty much just the cluster stuff ** tach, speedo, oil pressure, oil level, starter, clt temp, clt level, alternator exciter, reverse lights etc ** Everything else is run off the sm4.
Test fitted the turbo, worked out nicely. Might be stepping up after waterfest, just trying to get it together to go there.
Next is another engine build. it'll be the usual 1.8 w/headwork again. Nothing fancy.
Just thought I'd start a build thread for you to follow. Show you whats been going on now that I'm technically allowed over here on the audi forums :)

Come on guys, K03 is stage 1 no matter what you have on top of that. K04 is stage 2 and BT is stage 3. Lets not get like the S4 guys were they need to add a - or + to every stage.
I think it'll be a fun build, and significantly more fun as a street car. 650whp wasn't all that hard, so doing everything off the bat this time i figure 600whp for this summer will be good enough, then step up the turbo again and add some looks over winter and come out next year knockin heads.
Welcome to AZ Brian, I'm Jake (aka crazyass713 over on the tex) btw...
Glad you picked up the car, I almost got my business partner to buy it. Happy to see it in good hands. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with on this build, I know you are smart enough to do it on your own but if you ever need anything (parts, info, another opinion) call me up at the number in my sig or pm me on my account: DW Garage. I want to see this thing rape all! -Jake

2011 JSW Tdi 6speed manual
Tonight I'll probably be pulling fuel lines out and trying to find a way to fit my surge tank down there, then throw in the -8 feed and -6 return from the jetta(hoping they're long enough) and then tearing spare stuff out of the engine bay thats not needed anymore.
but at least it will be rebuilt into the beast it was meant to be
good luck!
i have a broken wrist and cannot even begin to move my pinky, let alone work the home keys. so if my posts lack grammer/punctuation and that iritates you, simply, fuck off
No idea what i'm gonna do w/the s364.... probably sell it. It needs a rebuild cuz the pistons went through the exhaust wheel. haha.

It still has a legacy of Sean moving on with it, all is well. I think this car will turn out to be a much more fun street trim car than the jetta was. It might actually go somewhere.
No new updates as I've been in Utah since thursday morning, tomorrow night we'll start back up again.

Well, finally my first day back from spending nearly the last week in utah.... got some work done.
Bought all the wiring stuff to wire up these sensors, that'll be tomorrow. Picked up a new AEB head and all the AWM swap parts(mounts, clt lines etc etc). New block gets here tomorrow, and all parts should be ordered by the end of the week. Then the head's off to the machine shop and the block gets the usual love.
painted the engine bay tonight.
Before: After clean up. Believe me it was DIRTY.
After: It got a little dark. The paint is a semi-gloss, same color I had the jetta engine bay. It tones down on the shine after a few days.

Audi's are overweight and underpowered from the factory. I think that's what he means. It takes a decent build to go low 12's, and "serious money" to hit mid 11's.
I think you two will be just fine though.

oh well yeah........ but the extra 1200lbs was something i was willing to give up to be able to have a hooking street car......
If you look how many A4s have gotten into the 12s and 11s its pitiful.
Our software is terrible compared to VWs even though we have the same engine. We dont have the great running Uni files or Tapp files like VWs do, because of our rarity. In the B6 case, returnless fuel system
The FMIC options are weak (I know you guys will go custom, but it still is ridiculous)
There are no Intake Manifolds available to us, except Issams, which is nice but expensive and has no data showing that it helps
Our clutch options suck as well. Clutchmasters is finally stepping up, but before that it was just Southbend, who did well for the time being
034 made the first ever 3" exhaust system available to us a few months ago. Every other exhaust is 2.25"-2.5" (Neuspeed, Borla, GHL, magnaflow, etc etc)
Our transmissions blow up when power is put on them, especially B6ers. There are no options really for making them stronger
The only B5 that had a wideband ECU stock was the 2001 vs. all VWs
etc etc. If anyone is going to do stuff on these cars its you guys so I'm excited, youll just see there isnt much support for these big setups. Im going through one for myself and I get frustrated quite a bit
^ meh........... not a big deal, Haenszel has everything he needs to go fast.
BIG AS FUCKING TURBO - CHECK
Engine management - CHECK (Autronic)
Fueling - several pumps, big lines, surge tanks, etc - check
FMIC - big enough! - check
Transmissions - Cheap junk yard replacements that cost less than the price of a clutch.

i'd say it's a bit more than "meh."
of course there are options, and of course you can go complete custom, but regardless, it is just harder to make an audi fast and reliable. And for the people that want to go BIG, there aren't many bolt on parts ** you need a good fabricator for half the stuff out there.
as opposed to me (yes, apples and oranges) but I could throw in a built long block and a 42r with a kit for everything and not need a shop for any of it, and I'd be done in a week!
Old: 97 30r'd A4 **-> headaches
New: Evo IX MR **-> 354awhp/349tq and couldn't be happier

me too, its not having the welder, garage, and other things I need that make the job tough
Well, the southbend that i was hoping was going to be just fine when I pulled the motor out ended up having a loose flywheel issue, and the clutch itself is worn down quite a bit.... so its either pick up a new clutch disk and flywheel or move on to an FX700.
I'm really thinking about just doing the twin disk so I don't have to fuck around with this twice. Slipping issues are the devil.
FX-700 here with aluminum flywheel. the new FX-850 is almost out now.... 8.5" twin disc. they are doing the testing on it now. got mine direct from Mike Hood. Mike-2ptzero.....
its only offered in a steel FW though, as they had to cut the FW thinner that the FX-700.
When it comes to making big power, Clutch Masters has the solution to get that power to the ground with the least compromise to drivability. Their new 8.5 in. “850 Series” twin disc units are rated at a range of 600 -1200 hp, and with the option of two different friction disc combinations, the units will fill the needs of a daily driver to the most extreme racer!
Features include a billet aluminum cover, heat-treated diaphragm spring, billet aluminum flywheel complete with a replaceable steel friction insert. Kit includes the throw out bearing along with all the necessary hardware for an easy bolt up installation. All components are interchangeable, making it easy and affordable to maintain and extend the life of the unit.
(PS: ignore the aluminum FW comment, not for our cars)
