Hard to Fill Gas Tank SOLVED

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I brought this up several months ago but never followed up on it. Things finally came to a head the other day when it took 10 minutes just to get a half tank of gas in my car.

I did some searching on the net and found a lot of posts that mentioned the carbon canister. I thought I'd have a go at running some tests on the EVAP system. It turns out that the filter for the leak detection pump had become plugged up and would not let air flow back through the canister.

I've got a replacement filter on order, but for now I've put a bit of hose in where the filter used to be.

If anyone is interested I could do more of a write up, let me know...

i had the same problem and the guys at the dealer told me to replace this hose that goes from the top of the charcoal canister to the leak detection pump. swapped it out and it took me maybe 15 mins and it is all better! the hose replaced this huge cylinder that once i took off i couldn't even blow through. Before i replaced the hose it would only fill about two gallons before the pump would click off. i will post up the part number tomorrow if i can find it.

I added a discussion of this and some EVAP system things I learned to the Wiki for the B6 S4: http://www.audizine.com/wiki/index.p...EVAP_Emissions

Where are all these parts located? I've been having a hard time filling my tank recently and would like to try this out. Pics would be much appreciated.

Canister and LDP filter are together. Look under the butt of your car and you'll see a round cover held in place by three cap nuts. Undo the cover and voila, canister!

Check my wiki post (see above) for more detailed troubleshooting and information on the connections. I'll put up pics when I put in the new filter, it got dark on me last night so I was in a hurry.
