    Lug nuts backing out.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had their lugs start to back out on them. I haven't driven my car in like 2 weeks then I'm driving down the street and my front drivers side starts making a thumping griding sound. So I went back home and checked and my lugs were hand loose on all lugs.

    Re: Lug nuts backing out.

Out of curiosity, once they are tightened do you check them after few miles?
I do this every time the wheels are off. Put them back on and take driver around, 1o miles or so then check them again.

    totally

I tighten after a few trips if I've put the wheels on. Once I forgot on our Lexus, and a wheel did get loose-ish (not crazy...just enough to make a slight noise). I tightened it, and it was fine after that.

The odds of ALL FOUR wheels getting superloose are pretty incredibly low...either that or you forgot to tighten them when the wheels were put on (unlikely)

    Re: Lug nuts backing out.

No I don't think anyone is trying to kill me. At least I hope not. I did have a base cop follow me back to my house the other day because I have one headlight out while installing the LEDs in them. He said "I know you have the only S4 on base and was just making sure someone doesn't have it out for you because they are jealous." I usually come back after driving for about 15 mins or so to re-tighten the lugs. Maybe I just forgot to get to that one.

If you tightened them in a odd configuration and not in a X pattern. There is a chance that they would back out. after driving for a while

Torque stick and wrenches are not the same. Audi advises against torque sticks. I made a thread about that TSB.

double check that you are using the appropriate bolts for the wheels, ball seat vs cone seat, if the incorrect seat bolts are used they can loosen./

these things are pretty damn accurate...most guys in shops just their impact guns with regular sockets anyways....have never had a wheel come loose since i have been using them :knocks on wood:

I really think that it was my fault on either F-in up the cross pattern or just forgetting to retighten the lugs on that wheel. I don't think someone could have loosened them because I have a hard enough time gettin them center caps off let alone someone who doesn't own an Audi!
