No, hydraulic pumps are A6 and higher, Magnetic fluid for cheaper cars (A1-A5/Q5).

    Icic. Thanks for the clarification.

I still have no luck on fiddling with the suspension settings yet.

I am sure the A4 uses a hydraulic system. See this link for more info

Does anyone remember how the coding for motorway flashing turn signals was? mine flashes just three times and I want it to flash 5 times I found this and I don´t know if it´s for this

    Confort signals:

    46 -Central Convenience
    10-Adaptation

    Channels 1 to 4

add 4096 to existing values of all four channels

anyone knows about this coding? thanx

Pretty sure c99 is wrong. Only TT & R8 has Audi Magnetic Ride. And if I'm not mistaken it's the same Delphi MagneRide system used by Cadillac.

it's old news, but huge THUMBS UP to RLarsen & DavidB8!! Relatively new to the world of VAG & a little intimidated fumbling my mind around it, but in the last couple of days have done much to my car. Very cool - and this post extremely informative. My latest tweak was undertaking VIM. Everything is accepted from plugging serial # into decoder, etc., but for some reason when I test it, dvd runs, but when I begin to drive I get the prompt on MMI that this function isn't allowed while vehicle in motion...

I've gone through the scenario a few times....even tried chan 48 (but would only flash ERROR). Tried plugging in code to David's Serial equation and all numbers sync. Wonder what I'm missing or maybe it just doesn't work with my Avant

In any event - you guys are the pioneers of all of this stuff. And it's truly awesome in educating the more simple folks :) Many thanks!!

    Hidden menu
    Ambient well lighting
    Needle sweep
    Key FOB windows
    DIS/LAP Timer

and it will go on :)

Follow-up VIM query - could there be anything in the hidden menu that might need to be accessed to allow it to be enabled?

Yes! Finally. I got it to work! Awesome...strange bc on a couple of occasions I'd tried to do the Adaption 10 route and it would not accept the value of 48, but again I tried it with 255 this last time around & Bingo. Video In Motion. Muy bueno.

Thanks for all of the insights on this forum.......Again David/RLarsen - you dudes........the shizzle! ;)

this would be a true statement. I didn't realize I had to, to be honest. When I entered the code it was accepted the 1st time around & I figured this was all that was needed - at least as I understood it through the instructions. Just close & reboot MMI. It said if it did not accept, then....do 48 & so forth :)

After slogging through this entire post for the last 9 hours - while watching TV sports.
I now have some idea why some here take the 'cheap' Chinese cable route in spite of the piracy issue - Uwe is far from the most diplomatic of vendors - pay my price or screw you. A 30- or 90-day license at $100-$150 would work for most here.
Yet the Chinese screw all of us over and over - cheap labor job theft, disregard for the capitalism 'game', blatant intellectual property hijacking, never ending currency manipulation. What would Chairman Mao think
Also never saw definitive response re wiper rain activators also activating windows up/sunroof down - good idea IMO.

They should just make a program that only allows people to make little changes like the way the lights work, seatbelt chime etc. I think VCDS is a bit too powerful for what most people here use it for. But you're right, it's a silly way to market a product, especialy when you see that you're losing tons of business to the chinese. I mean, if the cable costs $30 to manufacture, charge people $50-100. Most people would rather do that then fool around with those chinese cables.
Also, I said I would try out the rain sensor thing, and I did, but the coding is much different if it even exists. I think that's a job for someone who's much more experienced with vcds. So I couldn't get it to work but maybe someone else can...

I would love to see my rain sensor go away...I hate the way it dictates how fast the wipers go regardless of what you set for the intervals. would be nice, as it's a bit annoying for sure

Anyone have a problem with just one fog light coming on? When I have the headlights off, the fog lights are off. When I turn on the headlights, sometimes just one of the fog lights comes on. It may be the left, it may be the right, it sometimes is neither. I think this is tied to the other frustration I am having with the fog light coming on when I turn on the signal. I signal left, the left fog light comes on. When I signal right, the right fog light comes on. I have no idea why this is happening. I am starting to think that it may be a combination of a couple bad settings. Any thoughts?

I can't comment about the fog lights intermit coming on with your headlights but I know that you can "code" the fog lights to illuminate with your turn signals.

Well, thats because the "cornering lights" are triggered by two sources: One is the turn signal switch and the other is the steering wheel. Thus it is possbile to set the turn signal right and turn the sterring wheel to the left and both fog light will turn on....
I've posted this in a German forum, however, the PDF speaks for itselft (NSW= fog lights and "Blinker" = turn signal): http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/nebel...1#post23635693

The cornering lights work only up to 40km/h, above the fog lights will turn off.

THANK YOU BOTH!!! This was exactly what I needed to know. I made the change and both problems went away. I must have mis-programmed it at some point because it is not documented in the 10.6.0 version of VCDS. You guys are awesome!!

Hi all, sorry for the noob question but I just got a cable with VCDS 10.6 and I'm struggling with something.

Most instructions on how to recode something give a [Long Coding Helper] step, but I don't for the life of me see that option/button in VCDS 10.6
For example I'm trying to enable the needle sweep on my car, I go to [17 - Instruments], then click on [Coding - 07] and I can change the coding, but there is nothing that says Long Coding or Long Coding Helper.

    What am I missing?

Once you click coding, there should be a box below the entire length of code labeled "Long Coding Helper".

Unfortunately, I can't answer for the A6 as to why it does not have a long code helper; but, there is an updated version of the software from Ross Tech. It's 10.6.1. If all else fails, you might have to call them and inquire as to why your coding screen is different from the B8's.

Well it does matter, because the units aren't the same in A4 and A6.

And it is only possible to enable the needle sweep if your A6 is the facelifted model - meaning MY2009+

What are the options when holding the mouse over the "Software Coding" field ??

It really matters, your car is too old to have long codes...

A4/A5/Q5 B8 has new generation of every unit, in comparison to A6/C6.

Thanks all for the replies. I didn't realize long coding was available on only certain cars. Like I said I'm a VCDS noob.

There is a bunch of A6 C6 mods listed here http://a6retrofit.tripod.com/articles/a5vagcodes.html and the all refer to Long Coding, hence my confusion.

I actually managed to get most of what I wanted done with VCDS (graphic parktronic, adaptive brake lights, and windows down with remote).

There are two other things I would like to do: windows up with remote and Enabling reverse mirror tilt. Is any of that doable without long coding?

Open Module [76] - Parking Aid

    Short Coding:
    0?xxxxx: Optical Illustration
0 = without Optical Illustration in Display
2 = with Optical Illustration in Display

Save changes, then enable Graphic display in MMI under the Parking menu.

I tried this on my vehicle, 2010 B8 with 3G Navi, and it either didn't accept or didn't work. Can't recall as it was a while ago.

There are 2 areas to change coding that one would think would make this work. The US/CA spec vehicles are unique in having rear camera with rear sensors only where I'm told ROW spec has front and rear sensors with rear camera.

Drove a Q5 which had front/rear/camera combo and the graphic display being shown along with the rear view was quite useful. It's nice to know which sensor is being activated.

I've read other threads on the A6/A8 where it's recommended that a newer version of the parking relay needs to be replaced. This is in reference to older vehicles. Either way it would be interesting to see if a parking relay from a Q5 would allow this...Just might have to try this :)

Anyone in the London Ontario area willing to meet?!

When I say graphical parktronic I mean this:

I'm don't know anything about the A4 B8, but in the A6 C6 there are several different parking system modules. All but the first support graphical parktronic. My car had 4F0 919 283 B installed so all that was needed was a little VCDS coding.

    4F0 919 283
    4F0 919 283 A
    4F0 919 283 B
    4F0 919 283 C
    4F0 919 283 D
    4F0 919 283 F
    4F0 919 283 H

    Byte to 04, if the value in row three is 40 should be replaced;
On cars (without mirrors fold electrically), change it to 4C.
On cars (with mirrors folding / dimming mirrors) the byte value 50 to replace it with 5C.
Then when reversing with mirror adjustment knob to position the passenger mirror on the passenger side of the reverse inclusion is lowered to better see the curb and then back to its original position as the car reaches 15 mph.
Without the seats with memory effect is not currently known if the tilt can be adjusted, seems to default to a lump sum, does not work on some cars, but the value is 44 instead. This probably has to do with equipment levels.
Here, at Brazil, my A4 B8 does not have 40, 44 or 50 but the value for Byte 4 is 41. After changed it to 4D (4C +1) it is working perfectly.

Thanks guys, this forum is amazing!

As I do have the light / rain sensor and adaptive distance sensor, is it possible to enable the high beam assistant?

I happened to do my UK spec yesterday.

I'm not sure how my code helps though as you've no idea what tweaks I've done etc

p.s. I've stuck it all about just incase you wanted to compare s/w or h/w versions.

im trying to separate the turn signals from the brake lights and vice versa. do you think that could be done in VAGCOM or is it a regional firmware change?
