I haven't tried to change the bulb in the front yet - but it should be possible.
The rear turning signal bulbs are "P 21 W" - I have changed my to Osram Diadem
In the Owner's Manual is written about the front bulb replacment:
The following bulbs should only be changed by a qualified workshop: • Halogen headlights: Bulb for turn signals
• Halogen headlights: Bulb for side lights • Xenon headlights*: Bulb for turn signals
• Xenon headlights*: Light source for daytime running lights/parking lights
• Bulb for headlights: Bi-xenon lights ⇒
• Light source for turn signal in exterior mirror housing
• Light source for high-level brake light
As a rule, you require a certain degree of practical skill to change
defective bulbs. This applies in particular to those bulbs which are
only accessible from the engine compartment.
If in doubt, we recommend that you have defective bulbs changed
by a qualified workshop or qualified mechanic.
If you do decide to change bulbs in the engine compartment yourself,
be aware of the safety risks involved ⇒ page 255 ⇒ .
But in the same Owner's Manual are there a section about, how-to "remove and install headlights" - so it should be possible to do it your self (if you don't have the section about the removal in the US Owner's Manual - you can download the UK version here: http://www.savefile.com/files/1606260)

This is not a complete list - what counts is the options in the VCDS (Vagcom) interface - and there is the DRL-stays-on-with-turn-signal option still. (I use the 805.3 and 904.0 Beta)
The label-files are impossible to read for the B8-platform - so you need to connect the cable to your car to see which options VCDS offers.
I see. The performance guy at my Dealership will be flashing my car soon (hopefully next week) now that he has updated his VCDS. When I asked him about changing the DRL option and also the needle sweep option he didn't seem to understand what I was talking about. Is it fairly self-explanatory?

For the needle sweep and DRL, it will be like the VCDS Tour show in the first screen dump of Long Coding Helper where he need to check/uncheck some bits - but only if he uses a VCDS. If it is a VAG VAS-tool he is using, there will not be the same help options.

It won't put me off but this was recently posted by an Audi Technician in the UK :
"All changes require a authorisation code called svm, adaptions need no svm code but code changes for example steering column control code change to enable cruise requires a code, this code will input the values into the control units to allow cruise and update the vehicles build list.
So if you retro fit cruise yourself and change steering code and enable engine ecu then your vehicle goes in to the dealer for service or anything else that requires vas hook up the comparison test will revert the code changes.Vas will prompt the user of the error and ask them to continue to reinstall correct long code but also say your engine ecu fails and requires replacemnet the long code is inputed on line so the operator has no input on the code so the code returned will be factory specification for that ecu, cruise not fitted."
It's simply giving you the ability to adjust the fudge factor.
The DIS shows an approx comsumption. If you find it's reading high (or low) against reality then this just allows you to tweak the calculation so that the DIS shows a more truthful set of numbers.
It have to be an Emergency Braking - meaning the parameters below will be read, and only if these parameters together will be read as an Emergency Braking - then the system will do what it should do in such a situation.
(claps for RLARSEN) if anyone on this thread has not yet given him rep, please do!
I'm about to buy a VAG-COM cable but I have a question...how do you know what all the codes are? I would think that you'd need a giant book explaining everything
i.e. this thread covers about 5 of the 500 customizable items...how on earth do we know what the other 495 will do?

when it says vehicle speed, how fast?? cause i tested going in a straight line up to 40-45 and slamming on the brakes and it didn't work.
do you know if there is a code to have the brake lights flash on normal braking??
The question is, when you turn on your car, does it return the favor?

I have tested the Emergency Braking with a speed of 65-70 km/h on a country road, where I was driving normal - holding the speed - and then slamming on the brakes. Both types of Emergency Braking Lights (Turn Lights and Brake Lights) went on.
I don't think you can code the brake lights to flash when braking normal - with a VCDS (Vagcom) - and I don't think anyone other then Audi know how to do this.

With the 'old' VAG cars, it is easy to see what can be coded and how to do it - you just look in the label files with the extention LBL in the VCDS installation on your PC, for that model you want to see coding options about.
Is there a code to enable my passenger mirror to tilt when i reverse, or must the mirrors have the memory function?Id really like this to stop me scuffing my alloys!
thanks
Enabling reverse mirror tilt on cars without memory seats:
Go to module 52 Door Elect, Pass., Long Coding, Byte 4. If the byte has value 40 (cars without electrically folding mirrors), change it to 4C. If the byte has value 50 (cars with folding or folding/dimming mirrors), change it to 5C. Afterwards when reversing and the mirror knob is in passenger position the passenger side mirror will tilt while on reverse to better show the curb. Without memory seats it is currently not known if the tilt can be adjusted, it seems to default to a standard amount according to reports (see links below, thanks to EuroDan and Unisurfer).
(UPDATE 5.3.2009: It was reported by -V- (here in Finnish: http://www.ultimatevw.com/keskustelu...10753&sivu=185) that 4C won't work in some cars, but value 44 instead does. This probably has to do with equipment levels. Ross-Tech has updated their VCDS/VAG-COM software data to include relevant bits with descriptions, so you can more easily try different combinations.)
My lesson is not to repeat what you've been told without knowing 100% whether it's really true!
I'm currently sitting in my car (I have dipping and electric folding mirrors) and have just made the change and it works !!!
I've attached the long coding help and it was just a case of putting a tick in the box next to the option which then generated 5C. I also found the 54 worked the same.
My car is a 2.0T 6MT Avant in the UK so that may be different to you guys....perhaps because the passenger side is the left door for us.
Many thanks.
p.s. Is it normal procedure for it not to return to normal position after competion of the reversing? It seems you have to turn the mirror selector away from the passenger side and then reset it read for next time.
p.p.s. I couldn't adjust the position. It seems to be a standard amount of movment from wherever your mirror is set.
noob question here, I have the concert audio on A4 B8, I'm interested in playing with these codes
is this what I need to order? http://shop.ebay.com.au/items/_W0QQL...stic&_osacat=0
is there anything special that I should pay attention to, like OBD2? 409.1? KKL?
and there are many vag-K+can cables which I assume is not for me?
and where in car should I plug the cable?
Thanks a lot
P.S. my brother has BMW 323i current shape, does this tool also works on his car?
Don't buy the China cable - it will not work on a A4/A5 B8, because you need a cable that communicate via HEX-COM+CAN or HEX-USB+CAN, and a VCDS software version 805+
Anyone on here with non-memory electric seats got the memory enabled via Vag-com?
I'm pondering adding the basic electric seats to my replacement car order and would appreciate someone giving me a run through on how it functions once activated.
any way to make the back windows go all the way down? thanks
I don't think this is a coding issue - it is more a mechanical issue, where the window STOP need to be modified - might be the small window motor need to be rotated slightly so that it can go all the way down...

anyone know if it is possible to make the A/C button that makes the air circulate inside the car stay on using vagcom? everytime the car is shut off and then bak on it turns that function off.
