I think these works of art need their own thread and this would be a great place for JHM to give us updates on only these headers.
Here are the header flanges
The Header Prototype
Beta testing set installed
Quotes from JHM: Header Specs:
"We plan on making it bolt to any 2.5" aftercat that is NOT necked down. So the header will completely replace the stock manifolds and your downpipes. If you happen to have a cat back that is knecked down for a stock downpipe then you will just need small section of 2.5" pipe welded on. There would be no point in buying headers and lowering your motor for the install then negate the gains with a necked down pipe. Also if you have a 2.25" cat back it will limit the headers as well. We do plan on cat and no cat options as well.
And we are currently building jigs for these headers and a JHM cat back exhuast system as well."
Estimated Price:
"$2,500 base. Added money for cats (still need to work out the details on this). Also the 02 sensors need the wires lengthened so either the installer can do it or we will sell a high quality extension kit to splice in or totally new 02 sensors with longer wires."
Performance:
"We already have 2 cars running with them and the mid range (2500 to 5000rpm) was a healthy gain due to the nice long primary tubes (optimized based on our engine size and design). Above 5000rpm the gain is good as well but not as great as lower in the band, we attribute this to the STOCK intake manifold and will be looking into a ported intake manifold exchange program once we get everything else released."
Farmerbobs Car:
"His car is planned to receive the 3rd set of longtube headers we are building. We should have one car running this weekend and then another one soon after then his car. After those three are done I will hit the track with his car again. At that point I will also officially release the headers for sale."
And a couple quotes from the few lucky bastards who were allowed to see them in person:
Justincredible:
"......................
lol that about said it all for me. WOW The set I saw you guys install I never saw them in that way as they were already on the car. Thanks for letting me and the other guys get the sneak peak when you came to Mi.
From the install I saw the fit is nice still with the equal length there is a small amount of room left between the frame rail and the body. The set we saw was on the car and it hooked right up to the aftermarket cat back."
cabracco85:
"I also had the chance to get a sneek peek at these headers, All i can say is they are of great quality and the welds look awesome. The headers are well thought out and should be a must for anyone wanting to make some good power. There is a little more room for the 6spd guys as the auto trans is thicker. But they still clear and fit with the long primaries for the auto cars.
Thanks JHM and all parties involved in making such a great product for our cars. I cant wait to get a set of these on my car, but there are other things that i have to worry about. SO im probally a year off until i can get these bad boys on my car. Thats if work picks back up."
Here is to JHM for being pioneers to the Audi 4.2 V8 performance!!

I figure its the next best step. Im getting bored of doing just valve covers and pulling the front bumper. Oh and let me tell you, 190 nm comes to about 140 ft pds. Those suckers are on there TIGHT!
looks great! let me play devil's advocate...coming from a person who tests things for a living, due to stress, vibration, and heat, what are the chances of the welds cracking or one of the sections failing? i have seen it happen before. it is always a possibility.

i guess there is always a possibility but knowing JHM, they don't put out a shotty product. That would be the least of my concerns.

Obviously there is always got to be thought about this possibility but when you see they actual part it is very well thought out.
That being said Ive Never once seen a Chevy, ford, dodge long tube header crack and those guys would use no flex joints and just have the exhaust hang off the header I doubt we would see that here. At the end of the headers are flex joints to absorb the cat back with the JHM design
Let me put it this way. I left a deposit with Jay 5 min after seeing the headers and Im a testing, tight money person.
If you don't have haters, then you're not kicking enough ass.

And lastly for the grammar police that are bound to step in
I came here from Germany in the 6th grade. I could not read or write a lick of English. I am working to get better. Thanks and sorry. I always try to edit my posts for the best grammar and easiest reading.
Holy shit!! Badd ass. I wonder how these will sound.

x2 on that! Any word on the positioning of the cats? On my Mustang there is no room for them on the Longtubes, and they can only fit on the H-pipe. Are they considering moving the cats that far back for our cars?

There will be cat option or not cat options. It seems like it will be right about the same place as the main cat sits with the stock dps. If anything it will be moved back just a little bit. Jay would have to comment to make 100% sure on this.
I didn't know jhm made a cat back as well, I didn't see it on there website. Does anyone have them along with some vid/audio clips?
I think they are in the process of getting some done. But i could be wrong. We will have to wait for jay to chime in here and give us the word on the catback.
I will have these on my car at some point. I promise you that.....
A little bird sent me a video clip from a beta car. After hearing the sound of the header with a custom catback..... The word "boner" about sums it up.

Hopefully you will have them before we go to the track. I would also like to hear a clip of them too.
So you are saying these headers replace the current downpipe assembly? If that's the case i guess i dont understand how they are going to develop a catted option without compromising the emissions / cat life / and power?
Seems like the cat would have to be at the VERY end of the header...and change power gains and cat efficiency?

Headers look sick though.
The headers do eliminate the dps, but the cat will be about the same place as where the stock cat sits. If anything it will be slightly further back, but not by that much. The cat will take alittle bit of power as opposed to the no cat option. But the gains should be good even with a cat. Im not sure about the efficiency of the cats, i would imagine it wouldnt compromise anything. I am not 100% on this so maybe jay will chime in and clear anything up that i may have messed up or missed.
