Windows 7 has a virtual XP mode for backwards compatability built in, it allows you to install a program into the virtual XP and then you can run it directly from Win 7. If you need any help with any of that stuff or changing drivers or whatever let me know bro I am a IT systems engineer and deal with that kind of nonsence everyday
I need to read thru this thread complety as I was about to go to Neuspeed and get my ECU flashed but if I can do this myself I would much rather just invest in some hardware and or make my own stuff so I can get into tuning my car myself, it would be WAY cool
i heard of this, however it is sill a VM at the end of the day supposedly. so it MAY be sketchy still.....

I pay $4 a month on GoDaddy.
Forum could be faster, Wiki is slow on logging in, and there is no support for automatic backups. But it is hard to beat $4 a month.
Plus, I don't really want to spend any time hosting the site on my own box.
ECU flashing software should be done in the next couple weeks. Just got the installer written today. Now i just need to handle some security stuff and pretty up a couple pieces of the UI.

Ive been reading up on this for quite sometime.I am just curious if theres anyone out there as far as tuners go that still install chips? for instance why not just get a ecu socketed that way we are able to switch between chips and so on.Has anyone looked into this?or seen it done?Ive seen it on 1.8T aeb mostly just wondering if its possible on our s4 ecus

No one installs chips anymore. Flashing is just so easy.

yeah I hear ya there.Definitely easy. However still time consuming i would think.I just liek the fact of having a socket. and being able to swap chips are i please whenver i need to instead of hooking up a laptop and reading out the bin file back and forth.
Hey if anyone needs a KWP2000 Plus cable setup etc. I have one of the kits with all the parts I am probably going to put up for sale. Just PM me if you are interested. Need to get rid of some things before I move to Chicago!
Where'd the drive for progress go with this? lol I was relying on you guys to figure it out so when I want to try to tune a 2.7t A6 in a year it would be laid out for me
haha... well actually, I finally got around to installing a clean version of XP Pro on a spare laptop, and also finally got my KWP2000+ cable recently.
So slowly I want to start tweaking a little, and I'm also looking for a deal on a 90mm Lightning MAF.
Hey I still need to get that email together for you... Just kinda dropped the ball on that lol.. been kinda busy as well.
No rush on that. Whenever you have some time. I also said I would send you some stuff too. ;)
My car is as tuned as I can get it without going on a dyno, and I don't want to go on the dyno until my data logging software has had some visual upgrades. I don't want to do one run on the dyno and spend 10 minutes going though logs.
In the meantime I'm happy with 22psi at 12.0AFR with 8 degrees of knock retard.

You don't need a dyno to tune, it just simulates a flat road, just get an AFR gauge and log it you should be good.
You don't want ANY knock, I'll try to link you to a website explaining how the decay and recovery works, it takes a long time to recover from knock, so it's just silly
"In the event of a 15 degree KR event, it would take nearly 19 seconds for the ignition timing to be restored to pre-KR levels"

Read the whole thing if you are serious about tuning
If I don't have a dyno, I can't determine if my changes increase or decrease power output.
I already have a wideband AFR and my own custom data logger. That is great for good base tune, but you can't use it to determine how to tweak the AFR and timing at specific load points to make more power.

Dude just tune it safely, 11.1-11.5 AFR for a turbo car, 0 KR and everything will play out just fine, no need to slowly damage your engine. If you only have K04s you don't need more than that, if you do get meth or NAWZ.
Unless I am missing something, that you have monster turbos and you need to run lean and assloads of timing so you can be hotter and spool somewhat quicker?
And yes, all you would need is an LM-1 and EcuX in order to tune an S4 properly.
FATS runs tells you if you are getting any faster if you are consistant at mashing the pedal the whole time.

I already have my target AFR, and no knock. Now I am seeing where I can push the car further. Just because I don't have knock, doesn't mean I am running the optimal ignition timing.
I would rather run on a constant load dynapack dyno, than try and do FATS runs without getting caught by the police or mowing down a pedestrian. Not to mention I can get much more consistent data on a dyno.
And if zero knock is optimal, why are all the major S4 tuners running tunes that generate knock causing between 4 and 12 degrees of ignition retard? Not saying it is the right way to do it, but there must be some reason for it.

everyone has knock in their tunes that ive seen on vw/audi, i know chris tapp has some in my buddies 1.8t tune when we were at the dyno logging. And he is a tuning guru in my eyes, very impressive thing's with that tune

well the drive is gone because the people that started this thread and tried working on it are running custom tunes, doesnt seem like to many people were interested.
ALL the info is on tony's site or s4tuningwiki that one could need.
most time consuming part is finding maps, however.....there are winols files and tunerpro files for M-box, i have one for both H-box versions and M-box, and could make one for the A6 if you needed help.
Notorious-
you can get lightning maf's with the adapter for the air filter for like 115 shipped from various sites. start checking out the ford sites, also 034 makes a weldable aluminum flange for the hitachi maf's....if you wanted custom for close to the cost of a lightning maf
Is everyone using ECUx to do their logging? I know it isn't really supported/sold anymore, and i would rather avoid the $250 pricetag...
Is there some comparable freeware somewhere/anyone know how to get ECUx for free?

Thanks.
I am using my own data logging software that I wrote. It works the same as ECUx, just faster, but no nice visuals yet. I plan on releasing it after I release my ecu flashing software.

Hmmm... that's a good idear, I didn't even think about checking out some Ford forums and such... I'll also look into that flange, sounds interesting!
Did you guys see that Eurodyne has the Maestro Tuning Suite that's compatible with our ECUs now? It's about $900 bucks. Worth it or not? Those of you that have been tuning with kwp2000, TunerPro, ECUx, and so on...would you do it again or go another route? I'm looking for advice as I'll be finishing my GT build soon and will need a tuning solution.

well its pretty simple, ~$50 bucks for the cable give or take the prices change, or $900 for eurodyne. you make the call.
now the software is very nice from eurodyne, screenshots on the vortex. and he sends you a base tune so you dont fubar your motor.
to tune yourself you can use the tunerpro, or find other program out there that is very expensive, but there is a demo ;)
WOOT, this is sweet. got tuner pro working, opened the bin file, then opened the xdf file and it works great. Now i had a few questions though (of course) back in the subaru days of opensource tuning there was a boat load of info about what each peramiter did and everyone shared maps and ecu files often. Any chance you would be willing to share that "stage 1" tuned ecu for others to... um... analyze... lol. id love for this to be a freesharing community but some companies would get pissed if you started sharing there chiped ecu's data. If your willing to send me the stage one tune so i can look at it ;) send me a pm.
also anyone with tuned ecus it would be sweet if we could get a big database of ecu files for various stages and mods, that way everyone could have good basemaps.
Especially for those who want to throw some injectors on and a basemap for that, then fine tune fueling after that.
Sharing is caring :) so share your ecu files pretty please :P not just the stock bins though ;)

It is not that simple... You'll also need logging software (ecu explorer) which runs what, $250?. Plus CRC fixer program, that also runs some $$. I bought Maestro and the software is pretty amazing plus I got an OTC Stage 3 tune which runs extremely well on my car (Allroad).

wow....really wanna beg some more for everyone elses hard work. learn like we did, ask questions, no one is going to hand you a file.
Thanks dude! didnt know there was a forum dedicated to tune! thats awesome, im glad you guys have it. This will be sweet! just like the subie days ;)

haha, didnt know there was a lot of info on this, i just found the forum for tuning, so i will be doing my own research to find these things out. Back in the subie world people were not so touchy about their files and were happy to share. I hope some of you will be nice enough to share info like the OP has. ill be looking on the nefmoto forum now to learn about me7 specific tuning.
i didnt mean to sound like i was begging for other files, but i just dont get why everyone has to hid all their maps. :P just my thoughts though.
no ones hiding maps, i just wont give you MY SPECIFIC values in the maps, i would gladly send you definition files.
ok, well i understand tuning takes a lot of work so you dont want to just share your maps for free.
could you just help me out a bit on things. "U/min" looks like its related to revs but is it exactly RPM or some other value?
Also in the Ingition angle map, are the values on the z-axis (values in the table) exact ignition timing in degrees? or is this an advance map? if it is an advance map, is there a basemap that it adds to?
I would love to see some definition files. I'm still trying to figure out what affects what... or when editing a specific map, what does a lower or high number equate to? Probably the simple stuff... yet stuff that I don't want to screw up for fear of damaging the motor.
So did Tony ever release his software yet ? It's been a couple of weeks
