Pics of new RS4 Euro Steering Wheel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Here it is finally! I had Audi install it. It needs a upgraded airbag as well. It also has the stop watch functions on the steering wheel and the S button as well. Much more sporty and fun. And Looks twice as good as well as more comfortable to drive with.

Re: Pics of new RS4 Euro Steering Wheel

There is no question about it that. They robbed me as bad as they can.. The wheel was $800. Then they tell you your airbag doesnt fit and you need to get the correct insert. The airbag was $600. Then the labor was $400. I guess thats kinda fair. I am happy with it. I want the Euro Seats but my seats are really great and comfy. I would hate to lose any quality. But that s modding. I have a Milltek Exaust sitting in my basement. It sounds Awesome, but you lose the S buttons' effect on the sound.

wow! $1800...... My euro RS6 wheel cost less than half of that with the airbag. Also, the correct airbag sells on ebay for $100-300. Looks good though!

My wheel and bag should be here in a week or two, Paid about the same as you but I think you did get robbed on the install. Heard from some people on Audiworld they did themselves and took less than 30 minutes. I wont do myself but talked to the shop that I use and they told me an hour of labor, $95, should do it. Also who needs the S button with a better exhaust? Nothing could sound better than my Tubi

Congrats on the wheel. It looks a thousand times better, and I'm sure it feels a thousand times better.

But come on man, $400 for a 1/2 hour to an hour max install?

Re: Pics of new RS4 Euro Steering Wheel

Hmm... so did the shop take care of everything? As in, found the RS4 Euro steering wheel, located the correct airbags and installed all parts?

or did you find the steering wheel and buy the airbag. Then went to the shop to get those installed? And it cost $400?

Scotty you really got owned on that installation charge. I would say that I am not the best handiman but with some tools I did this conversion on my own. It literally took 30 minutes with an extra 30 minutes of Vag-com.http://forums.audiworld.com/rs4b7/msgs/87007.phtml

Actually the S button changes the Fuel Map and gives that car twice the excelleration. IMO It is actually alot smother to drive the car with that S button on and the Exhaust open.
The truth is with my RS4. It is my newest car in a while. I have been buildng that Celica in my Icon for Years and have done many things on my own and with others from the dealership to custom shops. One thing I learned is that the dealership above all others can be held accountable for mistakes. In this case it maybe easy but its my new car with a new warranty and I am playin it by the book. They did however get me the wheel, the parts and installed it and programed it. I am happy with it. Its hot to death! The old parts are brand new and worth money. Hopin to continue makin this ride better over the next few years. The only real question is why the hell Audi didnt put this equipment in the car in the 1st place.

I think the car drives better with the sport button off, others must also since many did the mod of unplugging so the valves stay open without having to use the S button. In my opinion if you have that extra exhaust already put it on. Wheel looks great and can't wait to get mine.

That would actually be a false feeling of being SAFE. The dealer can't guarantee that the airbag will deploy either, unless they're willing to crash test your car. The reason that this wheel is not on US cars is because the necessary crash tests were not performed for this wheel and also for the euro seats in the US.

Re: Pics of new RS4 Euro Steering Wheel

I debated about this airbag thing to for a while too. But I can remember back in the day (before my time), when all cars were RWD and didn't have airbags. The old timers have no problem driving around here (snow, lots of snow) with RWD and can remember the time before bags. I'd pick safety over cosmetic -- especially in our "race" cars. Though I still want a B7 wheel and not sure if the bag is compatible with my B6.

Scotty, the S button does not change the fuel map. The only thing that the "S" button does is open the valves at the muffler exit ports and quickens the throttle response.

For those who don't think that they can feel a difference when the "S" button is engaged, put the car in first gear and let the car roll while it idles, then tap on the gas a little. When the "S" button is off the car is real smooth. When the "S" button is activated, the car will jump and it will be harder to modulate the rpms, car, gas pedal. Other than this scenario, it's really hard to tell a difference.

Last but not least, it's accelerate. Sorry, I had to go there!

I had the local Audi dealership do it as well and it was only a 1 hour charge...totally $135. It definitely shouldn't take longer. Its VERY easy. I just wanted them to be able to test whether the airbag would work (for obvious reasons).

Read the detail in the image below - you're right that the gas pedal becomes more touchy when in Sport Mode, but it also changes the requested engine torque - maybe not double, but there is a difference.

The other thing to notice is that the flaps don't just open and stay open - they open at low revs, then close again for noise control, then they open again at higher revs/higher speed/higher load.

Re: Pics of new RS4 Euro Steering Wheel

Yea, I know about the flaps opening and closing on their own but on to the "S" button. Do you think that the ECM is actually messing with the fuel mixture or just the signal from the gas pedal? The sentence says, "the characteristic curve of the accelerator pedal is modified".

Anyways, i was actually looking for that article that you posted up. Thanks!
