They are a 60/40 split and may have a ski pass-through. There is a lever on the back of the seat where it meets the back dash/decklid. If you can't pull the lever you'll have to unlock it with your key. Look at it before trying to find the keyhole, it's not easy to hunt and find.

Just got a brand new b8 a4 and made the mistake of assuming the back seats fold down. Went to load something long and behold there is no latch and the seats are bolted directly to the firewall. I've been looking for a kit to allow them to fold down but no luck. The dealer quoted me near 5k for parts and labor to make it happen. Best I can tell this is an option so make sure you check for it!!

in the 2011 models you have to have a premium plus and above to have that, its optional now.
So the base one does not have it

Blimey! In the UK they'd standard on even the most basic model and have been since launch.

    Thumbs up

You have to hit the seat release switch located under the steering wheel and then the seats should go down with no problem.

Yeah, figured this out at the dealership on the "premium," in fact even the salesman was shocked. It was almost a dealbreaker for me until my wife pointed out in three months the carseat is going to stop me from putting the seats down anyway.

    Buy me a 2011 and I'll do a DIY.

People need to remember, if it's an option I have there is not much chance of a DIY...

That's pretty crazy, but I guess the value of the dollar is really making them pinch pennies.
Pretty soon there will be no power seats and pleather substituted on the premium trim......

It's so odd reading this thread. This was one of the biggest draws of the car to me. I can easily fit a nice HDTV in the back with the rear folded down.

Heck I've fit four tires in there somehow too. 19's...

I recall the fold down seats being metioned as a option when I was test driving. Pretty sad stuff, but then what do you want for a $35,000 car ??? :D

There's a guy on a Dutch forum who did the conversion. You only need a folding backseat (get it cheap from ebay) and some part from the dealer. The parts costs about 50 dollars. All the connection point in the chassis are already there. Look at this thread for partnumbers and picturtes. http://www.audiforum.nl/forum/b8-200...rklapbare.html

All my A4's - B5, B6, B8 have had the 60/40 fold down rear seats - couldn't live without 'em for occasional lumber purchases.
Guess I got lucky getting an '09 B8.

IMO should at least be an option on Premium, Front Track or Quattro.

I read the title and seriously came into here to laugh and poke fun at the OP...then i read the entire post through and now I want to laugh and poke fun at the Audi Sales and Marketing team at corporate. Who thought this was a good idea and ran with it for the 2011 (late 2010?) Is this a trend among cars in general these days? I havent been car shopping in a while so Im curious. Im going to the Audi dealership tomorrow for MY09 25k service. Im seriously going to ask somebody WTH. Even if this is an actual trend (sad) it shouldnt be on a car in this price range. Ok, forget price, but in this general tier...Oh well, let me step down...

Could not agree more, the 60/40 split fold down IMO s/b available in ALL trim lines. Hell, how much does it add to the build cost
    A darn handy feature.

We actually don't get the best solution in right hand drive. The 60% split is behind the driver rather than the passenger seat. i.e. it seems we've the same rear seat as left hand drive cars.

I've had it a couple of times where pushing the passenger seat all the way forward is needed and then I find the 40% split isn't wide enough. I end up having to lose the whole rear seat which is a pain when you have a kiddy seat there.

Wow, that's ridiculous. Not to knock on anybody's ride, but people buying "Premiums" are getting royally screwed. It seems they have about as much equipment as a Toyota. Audi has a lot of gall calling the base model "Premium". It's all marketing intended to trick people into buying cars with zero options and make them still feel good about it.
Tons of Audis, Tons of Mustangs. That's just how I am.
