Its funny I was just thinkin about doin a dash in carbon fiber. It would be pretty difficult though. First you would have to make a mold and then sand the shit out of the mold to get rid of the impressions of the fake looking leather on our dash's. Then just use the mold to make a carbon fiber one. Not too hard i guess but definetly tedious. I think it will look out of place though if you dont do everythin else in carbon fiber such as the kick panel, glovebox, fuse cover, center console... i think you get the point.

Trying to sand those details smooth on a concave surface will drive a person insane.

Clean the dash, pva coat, and glass. Now you have a basic mold.
Clean the mold, pva coat, and thickened gelcoat then glass. Now you have a part to smooth down.
Mold that part. Make as many as you want.

The tricky bits are the cutouts. Everything else is pretty easy with a vac infusion setup or what i'm using which is cooler and eliminates uv damage and doesn't need a protective coat.

A glass smooth dash would be very reflective and not something I would want in my car. At the most I'd go with a satin sheen. I'd rather just have the subtle weave and the epoxy absorb most of the reflected light. Maybe add a tablespoon of graphite powder to the resin to smoke it a bit.

I'll have to give this a thought, thanks!
It is the kind of work that any idiot can do and any genius can screw up.

I worked on a project last November that had clear epoxy then wood fibers (grill chips!) then colored epoxy over normal fiberglass to give it an eco look. I use bamboo cloth which is strong and actually is planet friendly.

The dash is covered in alcantara then laser etched. It has a fabric covering that was supposed to fit skin tight but was stitched wrong. Hit a button and it silently folds back to reveal the glovebox and it's hidden compartment.

click the pic for a few more shots of the dash.

    So I'm back again...

The job on the rollcage was terrible so I cut down the rollcage and will have to buy a new one, NOT fun at all...

This was a common sight att the rollcage. Frustrated over the fact that I hired a guy to do this since I didn't trust myself with the weld.

When that was done I got quite tired of all this, and the AEB engine ain't my favorite choice, that's why I've only bought cheaper stuff before. So I sat down and thought..

And all the thinking resulted in this!!

    A Audi S4 AAN I5 engine!

I just got it home so the planning is in the fullest and I'll be hedding for the garage first thing in the morning tomorrow :)
