Don't know what it is. I just LOVE the car. Everything about it's look and supposed performance.
I normally despise Dodge and their direction, but I am unbiased and totally LOVE this car off for some reason. I'd actually buy it as a second "fun" car if I had some extra cash lying around.
Oh, and it's already run a 7:22 at the Nurburgring with the driver bouncing the limiter at every other turn.
It's just not often I get "giddy" about a car but I love this car's "attitude".
Real brakes, lightweight wheels (13" wide in the rear with 345 tires!), LSD, 600hp, adjustable coilovers from factory, carbon aero and spoiler add 900lbs of downforce at speed - with the only real downsides for me being the name brand, potential reliability questions (who cares!), and the subpar interior (meh).

Anyone else?
I agree with just about everything you said. I know that that huge-ass spoiler adds a lot of downforce but seriously... I hate the look of a viper with any spoiler. I've always loved the body lines of a viper, and I hate to deface them with that hideous thing on the back.
Btw... I may be a little biased, as I'm currently looking through the market for a blue/white 96-99 GTS for my project drag car It won't be untill spring/summer when I purchase one, but when I do... I'm bringin the thunder lol
they look nice.. Kid I know has one.. looks bad ass though.. He had all of the black on the car, re done in flat black and took the wing off..
They arent fast at all though, I walked one from about 70-130 on my bike. Ahmad (blackbenz's) car is def. faster.. Id say its par with a stgIII on 100oct program..
But it has the sex factor and blows flames out of the exhaust when he gets off the gas at highspeeds.
kodycobra - Nice vid!! That almost seems a bit much but nonetheless amazing! I really like the wing myself, but I can understand how some wouldn't. It's pretty....blatant. Good luck on the project.
CruzS4 - Okay so a "little cash" might be an understatement...
gmann - Yeah you know, I never thought about that...makes sense especially considering it's whole "race" orientation. Safety, schmafety lol.
Dr. Duct - definitely fast enough for me to have fun! Sex factor and blowing flames never hurt either...
It'll be interesting to see if someone manages to beat it's own 7:22 time on the 'ring soon. AND, to see how the Spec-V compares.
I have always loved vipers. IMO they are so much nicer than corvettes and for some reason everyone overlooks them when they talk about american sports cars.
Rents got one of these but a 05 black/black, I agree that wing should be there this is the most tail happy car ive ever been in. I refuse to get in it, each gear is suicide. Im shakeing as I type this ive had some close (controlled) calls with that thing, as for a passanger im scared shit less. Il stick to awd when it comes to that much raw power.
I don't think its going to be a very enjoyable car, and just because it ran 7:22 at the ring dosn't mean the driver wasn't balancing the car on the edge of a razor the whole time and shitting bricks, it was probably very difficult to pull off.
It really depends on what you want, if you will enjoy it get it, but your nowhere near Nuremberg, that car is going to get pulled over all the time by the cops, the carbon fiber splitter is going to get smashed off on in a parking stall and you'll have the worst dealership experience with that thing ever (no warranty because they will say you were driving it "too hard" all time time)
there is a reason there is a book for a users manual a course to teach you how to drive one properly... of course its sexy
01 a4 1.8tqm, apr tip, custom intake, labree hfc, custom 3" back, apr chip, greddy oil ic, eibach pro street coilovers, GodSpeed FMIC, gauges to monitor, and a loud stereo so i dont hear any squeaks or problems plus weight to help handling lol
S2000_S4_525 - It's fun to be a little scared of your car sometimes... That's just the the spirit of the Viper.
1997gtx - Although I see your point, to worry about these little interior things like heater knobs etc would be missing the point on a car like this!
MacDaddy - The thought of the front scraping had occured to me haha, i'm a former lowered 240sx owner (with lip).. But meh, apparently it's pretty reinforced...and again...just sometimes comes with owning a true sports car IMO. As for cops, my car would be "stock", so they can just go away and leave me alone!!
RolledMySti - The 96 era ones were hot too, I agree. But the 08/09 ACR update just looks so sick! I just can't help myself!
Trust me, that car needs a spoiler. I was at MIR for a track event a few weeks back and one guy had the ACR viper. He was doing everything he could to get that car in to the 10's. He was running consistently 11.0's he made about 15 passes that day, 10 with the spoiler on and 5 with it off. The car with the spoiler off just had no traction and was consistently running 11.3-11.5.
PS. I highly doubt any, ANY, stage3 ::ko4:: s4 could remotely come close to beating one........600BHP, 560LB/FT sorry, I've seen one in action with a proper driver and theirs just no way you could take one.

GT3RS + ZR1 = Win!! I truly love both...like honestly....
Somehow though, like a hot woman that catches your eye, the new ACR caught me at the heart level though unlike the other two lol!
And in the ultimate irony, I think both the GT3RS and ZR1 are much, much better cars....and I just don't care.
That's kind of what made me post this in the first place. It's like what I had when I was a kid for the Countach.. Once in a blue moon, a car just gets you "giddy"!
600 horse out of a 8.4L engine always seemed kind of weak sauce, 71hp/l is *less* than what a stock *eight year old* S4 makes to the wheels (74 @ 200BHP). Although, how dodge managed 22mpg out of it is beyond me.. simply genius.

well.. for starters, the viper has always had a much higher price premium they start @ 88+ and that kind of money buys you a Z06 with some toys, and second, the corvettes are acutaly pretty good in doing other things besides going in straight lines. The car uses 13" wide tires and still is practicaly uncontrolable). Although, I think I'm with you.. given the choice between the two I'd probaly choose the viper because of its flaws.. it just seems like a car with alot of character, and everybody and their sister has a corvette.. how many vipers do you see?
A car that expensive with knob climate controls?
Pass.

ehh.. all lightweight super cars, even from ferrari and porsche are like that.. As I see it, it's less to go wrong and less to weight me down, which is what most of the crowd buying these street-to-track cars are looking for anyway. These are the kinds of cars you hand down to your children if you're the right kind of person.. so less is more in this case.
of course.. comparing the suede, C/F laiden anorexic interior of a f430 to that of a dodge product, even if it's an expensive, racing, 600hp dodge product.. is far from apples to apples still. the dodge still looks like an 80K neon interior wise. It's not hard to choose which you'd rather be breaking your back in, but then again.. that's why you're paying 150K+ for the ferrari and lambo.
I hate the automatic climate control of my S4. It's possessed by the devil I swear. I wish I had three simple knobs so I can concentrate on driving instead of pressing a temp button 20 times to get the damn temperature I want. I want to find a way to swap in a vw 3 knob control.

Base Viper $89,520
Keep in mind the Viper CAN handle (at least to a degree) and pulls 1.08g's in the skidpad. But regardless, of course it stills boils down to the buyer's choice and preference.
blmlozz - Although the V10 remains relatively inefficient as you say, our cars aren't a good comparison because of the forced induction. But i'm sure the overkill 8.4L adds power in the low/midrange haha! It gets the good highway mileage because 6th gear at highway speed or even above is virtually idle speed...which is cool. So yeah, 6th is really only for cruising/fuel economy.
RolledMySti - Haha i'm the opposite! I hated climate control until I had it. Now i'm a spoiled baby and would rather always have it if possible.
id choose the viper just because the name....Viper...... and i mean srt.....10.... it even has 10 in the NAME!!!!!
and i mean 22 mpg beats the zr1, and its just so pointless and AWESOME!!!!!
but imagine the acr was properly geared for the track... i mean it would get 13-14 on the highway but i mean damn it would be rediculous

well, If you compare apples to apples it's worse really.. the B7 RS4's 4.2 32V v8 makes 100hp/L, even the 40V V8 used in the S8 and S4 for years and years makes 80hp/L(73HP/L back when it was introduced 11 years ago in 1997) . I suppose it deserves some credit.. the Engines in these new muscle cars (or any american engine really) are not terribly complicated. It's a single rocker Cam 2 valves/cylinder V10 compared to a twin DOHC 5 valve/cylinder TT V6 or twin DOHC 4 valves/cylinder V8. it gets the job done just as well.. just at the cost of more gas, which I suppose is some of the appeal to american cars, It's just not my thing.
