well your getting rid of ALOT of vacuum lines, and that could be where a boost leak lies

the only drivers side stuff that i did NOT list in this DIY is the vacuum resevoir...which is located in the wheel well of the drivers wheel....even if they did remove that resevoir you would NOT be able to see it from a single engine bay picture.

bumping this for some help.
after completing I got a cel for p0444, duh forgot to plug the evap solenoid back in. plugged it in, ran it for a bit and was fine, now its throwing a p0441, for possible incorrect flow I believe it said. Is this not still for the evap system? I was under the impression that I would get a cel for the removed SAI, but not for evap? or am i wrong and p0441 can ALSO be SAI system? thanks in advance guys!

Anybody ever done this to a 2.0T FSI motor? Just curious if there are any links out there for a DIY on one...

/\ I am sure the 2.0t uses the same components, possibly, in different locations. If you read those two posted linkes (first thread) and this whole DIY, then you will be able to remove all you components without the need of instruction

I don't know about Shawn, but mine is still there, it's just been moved out of the way to a less visible place.

OK, so i'm gonna order one of those block plates from Intergrated Enginnerring and noticed they have a "SAI Resistor" that makes the ECU think the SAI is still there.
if i get this will i still pass all the readiness tests or will i still fail one?

I have a question...anyone that's done this wanna give/sell me your little gray/black check valves? my gf's car needs new ones, and she won't let me do all that work for her since we live in the great smog state of CA.
Thanks!

Nah, she's too conservative...she "likes her car the way it is"...but yet she loves my S4 with its mods...so I think in due time, I will inherit hers too..but for now, I need to replace all the stock stuff..so anyone with some spare check valves they don't need?

thanks zims666...I know the prices, cheapest I found being ECS Tuning at 16.95..but was wondering since it seems so many people have removed their check valves, that if they still have them laying around, I could help "clean out the shop" so to speak. If not, I'll just buy them brand new...not a big deal.

You do not need a resistor for the pump, it doesnt do anything. Just leave it unplugged. You will not get a CEL from unplugging the SAI pump, only from the lack of flow of removing it. The ONLY codes from the SAI delete will read "SAI-incorrect flow detected." There is not a hardware fix for it and no resistor will clear/remove the code. The only fix is to have the systems check removed through the software. Readiness for SAI will be set to failed.

Im not sure of the P code but you should not get a flow code from removing the EVAP lines from the purge valve to the IM and TIP, as long as the valve is still connected to the feed line from the tank and plugged into the harness. The incorrect flow code your seeing is most likely from SAI and is entitled "SAI-Incorrect Flow Detected"

The FSI is very, very different and no where near the amount of crap as the 1.8T. I would leave everything alone, we've done a few 3071R GTI's and I did not remove any part of their vac system

Can someone answer this
The line that runs from the tank to the purge solenoid on the pass side of the car needs to stay. The valve also needs to stay connected to that feed line and plugged into the harness. Everything after that purge valve can be removed. The easiest to clean up the engine bay is to remove the two lines which feed the charcoal canister on the drivers side, there are two quick disconnects for those lines underneath the power steering fluid resevoir. You can unclip them there, leave whats in the fenderwell untouched, and remove everything in the engine bay, or if you want to, pull the fenderwell out and remove the pieces there too. It is minimal weight, no more than a lb, I wouldnt bother with it unless you just want to. You do not see the purge valve in my pictures because I moved it into the pass side fenderwell behind the fenderwell liner. It is still there, connected to the feedline from the tank and still plugged into the main wiring harness.

alright, thanks.
i guess i'll hold off ordering the block plate until i can verify that new hampshire doesn't require 100% readiness to pass inspection. taking all the lines out doesn't seem that bad of a job.... but i sure as hell don't want to attempt putting it all back in.

To pass NH state inspection it looks like the SAI is required. :( guess i'll just replace the check valves and keep hunting for my leak.

Re: DIY - B6 1.8t - Vacuum line and Check Valve removal/simplification
I've been reading this thread every couple weeks, and so far the only thing that has kept me from yanking all that crap out of my engine bay is the SAI CEL issue. The ECU has to get input from something to determine if SAI is operating correctly. I'd like to address this outside of the ECU firmware, as not everybody is in a position to go that route.
I'm guessing this is not the case, but a resistor should work to convince the ECU that the blower motor is still in place (if it's using that as input). Otherwise it needs to rely on a sensor, or combination of data from other sensors, to trigger that CEL/code. What is the input that the ECU is using for the SAI system?

Re: DIY - B6 1.8t - Vacuum line and Check Valve removal/simplification
When the car is cold started, the ECU triggers the secondary air pump to turn on, the ECU then monitors for a change in A/F as it should lean the car out to warm up the car and cat quicker. If there is no additional unmetered flow introduced into the motor then the car will not lean out and it will throw a "SAI incorrect flow detected" code
Putting a resistor on the pump does nothing, you will not get a CEL relating to the pump itself being unplugged

There is a check valve on the brake booster itself, so no you're not. Audi likes to double things up if you haven't already figured that out

Re: DIY - B6 1.8t - Vacuum line and Check Valve removal/simplification
So something that sits between the pre-cat O2 sensor and the ECU, monitors the SAI pump input and ECT, and spoofs a lean reading until it reaches normal temp should work then. Do you know the deviance from actual lambda the ECU requires to prevent the incorrect SAI flow trigger?

Re: DIY - B6 1.8t - Vacuum line and Check Valve removal/simplification
Another question too. I know these are noob question, but Will the engine still function correctly if I got rid of the sai but left the n80 valve connected to the tip and intake mani? Basically, just getting rid of the sai pump and adding a oil catch can was my goal. I wanted to keep the evap with a direct line and one check valve into the IM.

so, short of re-installing everything, how do I get the light to go out. you mentioned "programming." Resistor will not work. If you read several posts back, it appears that the ECU is triggering the SAI flow CEL because it's not detecting a lean condition after it activates the SAI pump. You'll either have to do it in ECU programming, or modify the pre-cat O2 sensor signal based on the ECU output to the SAI pump and I'm guessing ECT sensor.

Not necessarily. I just have mine dumping to the bottom of the transmission.....but I will eventually have it hooked up to the downpipe (exhaust) were it will creat a continuous vacuum on the crankcase and head.

That doesn't help in states where the SAI is required to pass inspection if it was fitted on the car at the mfg. they will see all the shit missing and will fail it, if the computer passes or not.
