Heater core is pretty involved, This is on a C4 But it's close to identical and it's all generally the same.

If the motor completely stopped working out of the blue, try replacing this first. I don't know if you can get it brand new, but you can find them used or at junkyards, and They're a lot cheaper than a brand new blower motor.

Sweet! Thanks a lot Phil! And I don't have an AC, so no evap. I'll definitely take a look at it... Wondering if it's the actual switch, as they don't light up anymore, either... Hmmm... But this gives me a quick check to start. Might just be a loose wire, too, as it's been intermittent for a few weeks.

Luckily, on the B5, the heater core can be flushed from the engine compartment w/almost no disassembly.
And Evan, yeah, that's hideous... I like the Green, but combine it with that shit-brown interior...

Alright, so my S4 fiasco is nearing its end... The insurance company is offering me 6000 Euros (about $7700 right now) for the "wreck" and I can buy it back for about $2k. The nice thing is that here in Europe, they have no one to report my "total loss" to, so I'll still have a clean title.
So, my buddy found a brand new 2.7 bottom end (10 yrs old, but 0 miles). He's going to take my heads, and throw on his RS6 hybrids and some rods. Then, he's going to give me his engine for a couple thousand (already stgIII, 386whp at 20psi) and his buddy will tune it for me. All I have to do is get a new transmission, which he found a good rebuilt one for me, and buy a clutch/fw and fuel pump. So, basically, I'm going to get paid to go StgIII! So glad this nightmare is nearing its end! The next couple of months can't go fast enough!

As soon as I get the check in hand, I'd say no more than 1 month, maybe 6 weeks. It can't go fast enough! lol.

Hey -
Just wanted to introduce myself as I'm also in the Reno area (Ferntucky to be exact). Been here for a year now, and looking to meet other Audi enthusiasts.
I drive a 2004 Audi S4 and love her to death.
Also a question - what local shop do you guys use? I used to go to Reno Rennsport when I had my E36. I've heard good things about Automotion?

I've never gone to Automotion, just looking for a shop to do the more complicated jobs I don't want to take on myself (i.e. like my clutch that needs replacing soon).
You are correct, odhinnhrafn - the car is naturally aspirated.
The Piggie DP's I had wanted to done just to remove the highly restrictive pre-cats. She purrs now, and with the JHM tune - it's a whole new car
You guys do winter meets? I'd be interested!

Your logic is undeniable! :P
Marshall, if you have any interest in learning how to do that kind of work, some of these guys may even be willing to help you do it... A couple of the members here helped me swap out nearly my entire suspension. The know-how and tools are definitely available, just depends on how much you're willing to do.

Haha true that. Pretty sure there's one BMW, a B6 Audi, and me out here. I work out here so it's not all bad, mostly bad, but not all
Has anyone replaced a clutch on a B6 Audi? I can't imagine it would be easy to do if a shop charges $1000 to do it. It would take me a fortnight and a keg of beer to get me through that without any help!

lol. None of the stuff is as hard as the labor costs make them out to be... The labor+parts for a timing belt job on the B5 S4 is usually from 1200-1800... I did it for 300 in parts, 100 for the cam-lock bar, and about a day's worth of work, including changing my AC compressor... A clutch on an Audi is probably a 2-day job in a garage...

Yeah, labor charges are bs. Not sure on the b6 but the b5, its easier if the engine/trans come out rather than just trans.
I finally got a gopro! Going to be playing with it :) too bad my car will be parked for a few weeks. Doing control arms, rear wheel bearings, and center driveshaft support. I think i'll still get some fun vids 1st though.

Nice! Jealous! lol. Rear wheel bearings are pretty easy. Did it on a lift here in about 3 hrs, on the left side (aaah, the sounds of silence). An hour of that was spent trying to break the rear tie rod loose (quick tip, pull out the bolt from the subframe, instead of trying to break the ball joint loose) and the other hour was spent trying to find a good form for pressing the bearing out and prying off the inner race... Wish I could be there to help you with the CA's... Remember, LOTS of heat! :P
