The APR Motorsport team will enter the 2012 Rolex Series season with the first Audi R8 LMS in North America, beginning with the 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona
November 23, 2011 (Opelika, AL) - APR Motorsport is proud to announce that it will become the first team to compete in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series with the Audi R8 LMS, when the team takes the green flag for January's 50th Rolex 24 at Daytona on January 28, 2012 - and, hopefully, is first to the checkered flag on January 29.
Passion for the Audi brand runs deep at APR. Stephen Hooks, President and CEO of APR, was an aspiring driver and Audi enthusiast who raced Audis in the Motorola Cup - the predecessor to GRAND-AM. After leaving his driving ambitions to build APR into the largest aftermarket and motorsport company for Audis worldwide, Hooks returned to competition as a principal in APR Motorsport. The team was the first to race Audi's newest and hottest sedan, the B8 model generation Audi S4, in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Careful measuring, LOTS of communication back-and-forth, waiting, more communication, then more waiting... We're told the process had been painful and lengthy, but in the end it was all worth it as Patty now has the first red/white combo'd MINI Cooper running color-matched BBS RS wheels. You'd really be hard pressed to find a better looking example out there! All that was needed was the finishing touch and we were tasked with the installation of NM Engineering's RSA Spring Kit, mounting and balancing tires on the new rollers, and installing a set of StopTech Street Performance brake parts to improve braking and minimize brake dust.

I would like to thank APR for giving me this opportunity to drive in one of the classic 24-hour races, said Pirro. I have a lot to learn, and I hope to be able, together with the rest of the APR Motorsport team, to finish the race in a good position to make the best possible introduction of the Audi R8 Grand-Am in the American market. I know the race will be super competitive. I am ready for it; I am well trained; I am in very good shape and very motivated. I will have a very open-minded approach, as I have very limited experience in the GT class, although I have overtaken tons of them in 10 years of prototype racing!
Pirros success with Audi dates back to 1994 when he took the Italian Touring Car Championship at the wheel of an Audi 80 sedan. Sports car fans in America will undoubtedly link him to Audis legendary R8 and R10 LMP racers, which Pirro drove to five wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well as two championships in the American Le Mans Series. After retiring from active competition with Audi, Pirro drove in select ALMS races in the Drayson Lola earning himself a spot on SpeedHunters.coms Greatest 20 Overtakes with a daring move to take the lead at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2010.
However, despite his many successes with Audi at LeMans, Daytona holds a special place in Pirros heart as he scored a class win in the 1981 race at the tender age of 19.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona has a very special meaning for me, said Pirro. It was my very first car race outside of Italy, driving the Lancia Montecarlo Turbo in the World Endurance Championship opening round. My racing experience was very limited, and the longest race I had done was 25 minutes. I remember the first time I saw the track. I was almost shocked! After this fantastic experience, when I came back to Italy I was celebrated as a hero. I never went back and now, after 31 years, I am really excited about it.
Rounding out the driver lineup for APR Motorsport will be Venezuelan Nelson Canache. A two-time champion in the Venezuelan Super Touring GT class, Canache spent his 2011 season competing in the Seat Leon Super Cup in Mexico as well as the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Championship. This will be the first Rolex 24 at Daytona for the Caracas native.
I am extremely excited for my first attempt at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, said Canache. Daytona is one of the most famous racetracks in the world, and the 24 Hours is well-known in Venezuela. APR Motorsport is a great team, and I think we are going to have a great run in the 24 Hours later this month.
With the driving lineup of the no. 51 APR Motorsport Audi R8 Grand-Am solidified, Stephen Hooks, president and CEO of APR, is anxiously awaiting the green flag at the Rolex 24 at Daytona at the end of the month.
To have the chance to bring Emanuele on board for the Rolex 24 at Daytona is a dream come true, said Hooks. Cole came through to take advantage of 10% off sale pricing just before the end of our Holiday Sale and picked up a set of Hartmann Euromesh 4 wheels, 18x8 +32 for his VW (Mk4) R32. While the Hartmann offset is a bit more aggressive than what comes from the factory, we felt the addition of H&R 20mm DRA spacers out back was necessary to help narrow the gap between tire and fender and Cole was happy with the result!
The Achtuning VW Golf R has finally arrived and here she sits (for a very short period) in stock form, a perfect blank canvas for us to start from. A short cruise around the area put a smile on my face. Though it isn't as quick as our Achtuning A3 currently equipped with the APR K04 kit, software should easily bring it back to the power level we would expect. Cornering feels fantastic and the Golf R goes in the direction you point it without hesitation. Though the car feels great in stock form, we're already anxious to get started on this project! The Volkswagen Racing Cup is to enter the 2012 season with a new title sponsor US Volkswagen Group tuning specialist APR, which is backing Britains most competitive and best-supported one-make saloon series as part of a new push into Europe.
Alabama-based APR, one of the biggest names in the world of Porsche, Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen aftermarket performance products, has set up its European headquarters in Milton Keynes alongside those of Volkswagen Racing UK, and is set to become not just the championships title sponsor but also a technical partner.
APR will assist with scrutineering and offer technical assistance to competitors in the APR Volkswagen Racing Cup. APR was established in 1997 and has many years of motorsport experience in the USA, said vice-president Keith Lucas, and it is a logical progression for us to bring the expertise we have gained to the European motorsport market and to offer it to competitors here.

In the United States, APR Motorsport has enjoyed major success over several seasons in GRAND-AM sports car racing the team is set to contest the Rolex 24 at Daytona later this month with the first Audi R8 LMS in North America and also races two Mk VI Golf GTIs and three Mk VI Jetta GLIs in the ST class of the GRAND-AM challenge.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup was established in the UK in 2000 and is entering its 13th season as the sole saloon- racing supporting event to British GT and British F3. This year the championship will also race at Brands Hatch alongside the German touring car championship and at Spa- Francorchamps in Belgium as a supporting event to the 25- hour Fun Cup.
While we have APR looking into a few details prior to software upgrades, we are wasting no time with the Achtuning VW Golf R and getting right down to the suspension! Our Achtuning VW (Mk5) Jetta 2.5L had up until now been running the H&R Premium coil-over kit taken from the Achtuning A3, which has been down for the count while it awaits an APR Stage 4 motor. We're then going to throw the stock Golf R suspension on the Jetta for now.
H&R also sent us an RSS Club Sport coil-over kit to put on the A3 but more about that later... It's Golf R time!
The H&R Premium coil-over kit is now installed on the Achtuning Golf R. The Achtuning "Signature" ride height is a mild drop leaving roughly a finger-to-two-finger gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender. These are just after installation so we anticipate a small amount of spring settling to occur.
Got a chance to snap a couple of pictures of the installed H&R front and rear sway bars today on our Golf R project, then I took pictures of the Premium coil-overs we're running to show where the adjustment perches sit...
We then took the opportunity to test-fit some H&R wheel spacers to check clearances, etc. with the different sizes. I am happy to report the hub-centric 8mm (HR162555716) and 10mm (HR20255571A/B) spacers fit over the factory hubs just fine. On the stock wheels, we would suggest a 5mm front and 10mm rear H&R wheel spacer for a "mildly" aggressive look or 10mm front and 12mm rear spacers for the more aggressive look, as seen below:

Take that info with a grain of salt, as ride height will certainly be a factor when deciding wheel spacer widths.
Squeezed into our schedule today was a short test-fit of the Hartmann G5 Wheels on the Achtuning Golf R. The wheels are 19x8 with a 45mm offset. They're wrapped with 235/35-19 Falken FK452s and shown here without any wheel spacing. The "stance" is fairly aggressive and looks fantastic! Though I might suggest a 225/35-19 for those who plan to run a bit lower than this.
The StopTech Sport Kit install continues, and with our experience will improve the braking capabilities of our VW Golf R considerably. The kit, complete with OE-sized rotors, pads, and stainless-steel braided brake lines is intended to offer much less brake dust than the factory supplied pads as well as bite down on the slotted rotors with a bit more grip, instilling the confidence needed to brake at the last second possible using the factory calipers.
ACHTUNING is now stocking StopTech's new STR 600 and STR 660 brake fluid, high performance DOT4 fluids engineered to optimize brake system performance at high operating temperatures, and compatible with modern ABS and other vehicle dynamic control systems.

For the novice driver and the experienced veteran this event will have something for everyone!
For our high performance drivers school we will put students (teens and adults) through a litany of exercises designed to help you become a better driver, more able to deal with extreme situations with ease, and more comfortable on your daily commute as well. Walking you through these exercises are Audi Club instructors who will make you feel at ease while learning things that one day might save your life. You will have hands on experience in your car and there will be multiple short discussion sessions where things learned on the course will be discussed in detail. Towards the end of the day students will be taken out to our low speed autocross course should they choose and get to drive a timed lap that will test what you learned all day in real time with only time consequences when you make a mistake. For our more experienced drivers we will have a full, very large autocross utilizing portions of the Monroe Speedway racetrack. This will be a very unique autocross with the camber of the track being used for the additional challenge that creates. The huge figure 8 oval will be used for the majority of the course. We are limiting registrations to 30 cars so there will be plenty of runs. Bring plenty of gas. In the afternoon there will be at least four high end instructor sessions where lines at Pacific Raceways and Portland International raceway will be discussed as well as some technical sessions where car alignment, tire pressures, and other car related things will be discussed. Late Friday evening we installed APR's ECU software upgrade along with their high-pressure fuel pump on the Achtuning Golf R.
The software upgrade combined with the fuel pump is expected to give us an additional 80hp and 80tq, and a quick run up and down the highway post install proved the upgrades made quite the difference! Going to need to get a bit more seat time to offer a better impression in words though... :D

The APR Stage I ECU Upgrade is an ODB-II ECU upgrade that not only gives you higher peak numbers of 306 horsepower and 293 ft-lbs of torque, but also gains of up to 38 horsepower and 34lb-ft throughout the power band!
APR's ECU Upgrade is the best power per dollar modification for the 2.0T and gives it just the extra edge these cars lack from the factory without pushing the limits. With factory like smoothness and drivability APR's ECU Upgrade will fill the void in an otherwise excellent car.
All APR Software is available for 91 (R+M)/2, 93 (R+M)/2, 100 (R+M)/2, 95 RON, 98 RON and 104 RON fuel grades.
With the addition of an APR High Pressure Fuel Pump, APR's Stage I+ ECU upgrade offers large gains in midrange torque and horsepower. An additional 55 ft-lbs of torque and 55 horsepower over stock is on tap.
At these impressive power levels, the Golf-R demands an intake system that allows the turbocharger to breath more freely. With the addition of an APR Intake System, staggering gains of 83 ft-lbs of torque and 79 horsepower over stock were achieved. An impressive 338 ft-lbs of torque and 335 HP will transform the Golf-R into an AWD super car with only minor updates!

The ACHTUNING VW Golf R is suited up and ready for this weekend's test n' tune session. Equipped with StopTech's "Sport" brake upgrade (slotted rotors/street performance pads/stainless-steel lines) and Hartmann Euromesh 4 wheels that are wrapped in Falken RT615s, we anticipate quite the performance from our all-wheel-driven, K04 equipped Golf, especially now that we've got the ECU tune and high pressure fuel pump from APR to back it up as well!!
The Hartmann Euromesh 4 wheels are 18x8 with a 45mm offset, and sit perfectly within the arches both front and back, offering plenty of room for the meaty RT615s.
i just bought a 2009 audi a4 preimum plus, black interior and exterior. any suggestions on what i can do to it without voiding the warranty? i had a 2001 a4 that was worked to the max, and it's for sale now. let meknow...thanks !!

APR's Engineering Teams have finished final testing of a new ECU Calibration for the Stage I and Stage II+ ECU Upgrades. The results are an additional 20-30 Horsepower and ft-lbs of torque depending on operating conditions, and the addition of APR Motorsport features designed to enhance your driving experience.
Accompanying these updates, all ECU's flashed with APR's v2.0 software will be subject to subsequent updates via OBD-II port reflashes through APR's world wide distribution network, ie us!
For several years, APR's tested the 3.0 TFSI through brutal professional motorsport racing in the Grand-AM and World Challenge Road Racing Series. Automotive Engineering firms have continuously turned to endurance racing as proving grounds for new technologies and to measure the durability and viability of these new technologies in a rigorous total system accelerated life-testing environment found in very few alternatives. Through this testing and research APR's Engineering Team is able to deliver a more powerful application of the Stage I and Stage II+ ECU Upgrade and do so knowing little to no loss of life will be suffered in the comparison to the Original Calibration and engine performance levels.
APR's dynamic calibration changes allow the TVS1320 supercharger unit to operate to its full potential under many different ambient conditions. The resulting increase in intake mass airflow delivers more power though the entire rev range, no matter what APR Stage or APR Performance program you choose. Accordingly, adjustments were made to other areas of the ECU calibration to ensure proper operation as intended by the OEM.
APR's Motorsport Left Foot Braking feature is now available allowing customers more control over their vehicle's throttle. Under normal operation, throttle input is disabled while pressing the accelerator and brake at the same time, however this may be undesirable for those looking to get the most out of their vehicles performance on the track. Enabling the left foot braking feature, the driver will have complete control over the vehicle's throttle and braking system, which may give the edge he or she needs at the track.
APR's Motorsport Rev Limiter is also now available allowing 6MT customers to reach max RPM without the ECU slowing down acceleration nearly 400 RPM's earlier. The result is more power to redline and a definable redline feeling as seen on Audi Quattro GMBH vehicles such as the B7 RS4 and R8 V8 & V10.
Version 2.0 software is now available and is a FREE upgrade for all existing APR Stage I and Stage II+ customers.

H&R sent us a second set of coil-overs to test on the Golf R on Friday. After the first test n' tune session we felt we could use something a little stiffer and the H&R RSS Club Sport coil-over kit is designed for the committed motorsport enthusiast who is willing to relinquish some ride comfort in return for ultimate handling performance. After installation we threw the Golf R on our alignment rack for corner-balancing before heading to the Test N' Tune session on Saturday.
The stiffer suspension helped shave seconds off already good lap times so we are very pleased with the results, though we'd definitely not recommend the set-up for the typical street-driven car. We're communicating our feedback with H&R and there's talks of an Achtuning-exclusive coil-over kit that might offer a good balance for both street and track. Stay tuned...

Carl brought us his Audi (B5) A4 avant in as the miles were getting up there and the original suspension was in need of replacing. Rather than sticking with OEM components he chose H&R's avant-specific Street Performance coil-overs but wanted to retain as much of the factory comfort as possible. Turns out the B5 application sits pretty close to stock at the highest setting and Carl is very pleased. He also brought us this Borla exhaust to throw on while we had it up on the rack.
Better than when brand new, Carl should be pleased with the over-all performance of his new suspension and exhaust, breathing new life in a decade-old car!
