Re: Some Good Articles on Detailing
Any good articles that explains polishes vs compounds vs sealants and waxes?
I'm trying to figure out what mixes with tools like the PC 7424 XP, but have no idea what can/cannot be used with it.
Thanks

Move from breaking my back of polishing by hand to the PC. Keep the same great looks, or improve the gloss shine, without killing myself every few weeks.

Do you already have a pc?
you will have to
1. wash
2. clay
3. polish
4. wax
Terms
Compound
A highly abrasive form of polish. Also known as cutting polishes, compounds can come in the form of liquid or paste depending on manufacturer. Used primarily for heavily oxidized paintwork.
Polish
A liquid cleaner that contains abrasives to smooth paint and remove oxidation, conditioners and oils to enhance gloss and depth.
Wax
Available in both natural and synthetic varieties, wax is used to coat a car’s paintwork to shield it from environmental influences that can shorten the life of the paintwork and harm its appearance. Waxes protect against such elements as UV rays, acid rain, road salt, road grime, bird droppings and tree sap. When applied on a regular basis, wax make washing and cleaning of the paintwork easier. A true wax will not clean the paintwork or contain abrasives.

Re: Some Good Articles on Detailing
Hoping to get one for Christmas or something, but wanted to make sure I put the correct polishes/waxes on my list for shopping :)
Thanks

Wash - CG Citrus
Clayed
Zaino Z5 - 3 coats
Zaino Z2 - 2 coats
Weekly washings with upkeep of detail spray (CG or Megs, diluted 50/50 with distilled water).
Its nice and shiny, imo, but as time drags on, I want to move up to nicer upkeeps.

Re: Some Good Articles on Detailing
for now why not pick up...
Menzerna SIP and PO85RD or
as a one step you can pick up Menzerna Power Finish and the Uber Green Pad.
It depends how much you want to step it up.
These will replace the Zaino, you can still use the Zaino Z5...
If you want a deep wet look get a carnauba wax like Lusso Oro or Swissvax Onyx.
But if you want that metallic to pop stick with the Z5.

Re: Some Good Articles on Detailing
Can Zaino be used with the PC? I can't seem to find that answer on their site.

Re: Some Good Articles on Detailing
you can use an uber black pad and use the z5 I believe on it, apply on 3, and then follow the rest of the directions I believe you let it haze then remove by hand.

would this include your PC kits?
I think I'm ready to jump in the PC and want to cut down my hand polishing/waxing to a reasonable time.

Definitely will! That "NOV" code knocked about $35 off of the PC basic kit, can't wait to see the sale on Friday.

Phil -
I just took delivery of a 2010 Ibis white A5. What do you recommend I do to protect the finish on a new car and what products should I be using?

Yes, I have a pc but not sure what products to use on a new car. I don't think the dealer has done anything to the car other than to remove the protective wrap after shipping. The paint looks fairly virgin.

I was using some Zaino and Meguire's but I was wondering if I should be using something different on the Ibis white?? Does it really make a difference? What products do you recommend using for polish and for wax?

What is everyone's thoughts on the Laserwash systems:
http://www.touchfreecarwashing.com/demo.htm
There is a location by me which offers the basic one for $6. I figured it's worth a try in the winter slush.
