m6 or r8?

asking this question for my brother, he and his business partner are splitting the cost of a high speed sports car... he asked me for my 2 cents, and i said go with the m6 just because i have a passion for that car..

but which is actually better? they are similar in price, and engine specs...

r8 without a doubt, in my opinion m6's are ugly as sin, and just dont have the wow factor that the r8 brings to the table

r8 all the way, i agree that m6's are very ugly. also, the r8 is almost guaranteed to be superior in handling characteristics. lastly, i have seen 1 r8 on the street, yet i've seen several m6's.

The R8 is a small mid-engined sports coupe that is very nicely balanced.

The M6 is a heavy front-engined sports coupe that is balanced like a baseball bat.

Both will do nice donuts but, the R8 will do a lot more.

The r8 is without a doubt the better car. I'm a big BMW fan and I would like to find any reason to choose the m6 over the r8 on an Audi forum, but I just can't... well, the bmw has room for the kids.

I've driven both and I'd highly recommend the r8 if you can afford it.

However, staying within that price range.. I'd take a GT3.

you can get a low mileage M6 (<5k miles) for <$70k

you can get a low mileage R8 (<5k miles) for sticker +10-20k ($140-150k)


If they MSRPs are that close, it seems that people tend to vote with their wallets.

personally i have had the opportunity to drive both cars this summer, and from my experience they are 2 tottaly different cars.
if you want a fast car the m6 is the one for you, but if you want something to turn heads and handle amazingly and have a piece of audi history go for the R8

That thing is barely faster than the r8 on a strip, it's a drivers race.

On a course, a r8 would smoke an m6.

Both with plenty of power that it's not even worth comparing the two on that alone.

Anyway, I'm curious - what is "it all" that the m6 has?

R8s are backordered for a while and M6 are probably not. The M6 is twice as big as the R8 w/o a doubt, its a gigantic 2 door.

i read on the german car blog that the r8 has been sold out through 2009.

thats probably because the driver of the M6 didn't go into iDrive and change the cars DD set up of like 390hp to its full potential of 504hp or the M6 was broken or something lol, I have driven an M6, there fast as tits and If you look at stats there is no way in hell that the RS4 could pull on one, unless the RS was modded an additional 100hp...not hating on the RS4 its just facts.

Not to start an argument, but a stock M6 Convertible runs a 12.9@111mph according to Road and Track and the RS4 runs a 12.8@110mph according to Road and Track. Figuring in drivers error and not perfect conditions the better driver wins the race.
