Just re-read this thread. So, engine is already built and you recently picked up the ME7 Suite? Didn't you say you had 225 TT pistons (can't recall engine code)? Or did you mean you had those in an actual 225 TT?
And 2008? lol

Hahaha yeah well I don't have a garage in Philly so I only work on it when I go back to my parents. Running 8.5:1 je pistons now. I built the engine after my sedan was totaled and I couldnt settle on a tune. At first I was going back to a standard tapp ots tune but I really wanted to squeeze the most out of the setup so I began inquiring about local Dyno tunes. Then people started getting into maestro and the support for it grew. I also bought a tig welder so I started fabbing my own things then all of a sudden it's 3 years later. I also had an e30 somewhere in between.
You wouldn't happen to still have those old TT pistions laying around, would you?

nope don't have them anymore. i got them off ebay. in reality after you spend money on new rings and refurbing the pistons, you are better of just getting some mahle's
I picked up AEB pistons and Brute rods for $500 shipped. But if you had the TT pistons, I would have resold these AEBs and used yours with the 9:1 CR. Trying to keep my build on a budget, and can't afford fancy pistons .
And what do you mean by refurbishing the pistons? I was just planning on throwing them in a bucket of degreaser dilluted with water, and going at them with a brush. Is this not a good idea?

I would be careful of what solvent you use cause I had a set of awm pistons sitting in degreaser and the coating on the skirt fell apart. You should be fine though if you don't leave degreaser on them too long. I had mine diluted 1:1. Just clean the gunk off and out of the ring grooves. They are gonna get dirty in the motor anyways.
Thanks for that. I would have never gave it one thought. And since you gave me a fair warning, did a little Google searching. What's your opinion on Piston Kleen? Sorry if my questions are bothersome .
And to keep the thread on topic: Do you plan to tune yourself or have a professional do it?

I used oil eater for a lot of stuff. I used this industrial engine degreaser on the pistons. It's potent stuff.
I plan on getting the car running on the base file from tapp and tweaking from there. I'll be playing with maf and mafless set ups. I'm just wondering if I can run a bov on the maf set up. I'm not sure how it will react losing metered air. I'll have to see what the b6 guys are doing.
Why not just recirculate it, if running a MAF? If you feel the Forge units are not large enough, Tial makes a recirculating valve. And I think the Synapse one can be changed from vent to recirculating.

Id love to hear how a Mafless tune works out for you, and how much different it is tuning the AWM vs. the AEB (which seems to be the majority of the B5 Maestro users).

awm gets to enjoy quick tune where you can make quick adjustments to idle, rev, etc. does the aeb get 2step launch control? I'm not sure
anyway, i made my oil feed line at work since i lost mine/gave it away. 38" of 200 series -4an stainless braid line with 200 series A-1 -4an hose ends. I should do a write up on how to assemble these guys.
A tip to avoid getting poked would also be helpfull!

haha well there is a technique to cutting the hose. You can try cutting the braids very slow with a cutoff wheel. Or you can zip it as fast as possible and cooling it down in cool water. This prevents the inner layer of stainless braid to lift off the rubber. You can also use a sharp chisel and a hammer to slice through it over an aluminum block. This method sucks cause you oval the hose and its difficult to squeeze into the sleeve end of the fitting. Then just be careful or wear gloves.

i got my maestro base file. i think my cams our out of time. Gonna pull the valve cover off and readjust next weekend. I also need to replace my coilpack harness. I have many frayed wires. =(
Sucks to hear. Is there any off the shelf solution for frayed injector harness wire repair?

i'm just gonna replace the entire coilpack harness. they are only about $50 bucks. I figured i would have tear into the harness anyways to find the issue.
I was actually asking if there is a replacement injector harness repair kit
But your way does sound easier. Just take a good one from an engine harness and solder the wires?

haha oh whoops. i completely skipped over that. The harness you can buy gets repinned into the factor harness. No soldering required. You just have to disassemble the whole thing. haha.
180 off? holy shit! who the hell timed that them? i could try to think abotu the motion in my head to see if your valves are bent but i dont wanna think that hard right now. im just gonna say im sure they are. if you dont wanna take the head off just re time them and compression test. but im sure they are bent to shit. when the piston wanted to compress, your cam was exhausting. not good.
Thats the biggest black ass I've ever seen. And I like it
you and me both. haha. i was busy with other projects. When you have a daily. these things take a lot longer. When my b5 sedan was my only ride, i had not choice but to bang out projects.
Pull my head after a failed compression check. 20 bent valves :(. Just ordered another set and gonna try again. I also think I found the cause of why I don't have spark to cylinder 1. I took apart the wiring harness and the blue signal pulled right out of the connector. Gonna replace the broken connector and crimp on a new connection. I also have to smooth out the little nicks from the valves kissing the pistons. I hope to be running next weekend!!

Got my new valves today. Took a half day to tear apart the head. Assembled with new valves, fixed my coil pack wire and fired her up. She started for a brief 5 seconds! It stalled out but the battery is dead and possibly the starter has issues. I'll try and address them this weekend
I just had a thought. I think I mad have poor grounding to the engine mount. I cleaned it up and sprayed them silver and I don't think I sanded the grounding point making my starter seem to struggle. I'll give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. I'm so close!
turns out to be coil bind in my valvetrain. I had 034 valve springs that were made by Eurospec but they are only meant for stock cams. My revolver cams have too much lift. =( gonna throw on a stock AEB while the fancy one gets rebuilt correctly this time. Inching closer i guess. I'm gonna try and install new aeb head tomorrow night.
