correct, he wanted a "smokin" deal on my K04's. I understand he only wants K04's if he gets a great price, but he keeps talking about not spending a lot of money, and doesn't even know that he needs to pull the motor for ANY turbo change, with his lack of research I see a train-wreck coming. I doubt the GT series is right for him....no offense to him

I respect you for having the balls to jump in and DIY your KO4 swap and taking all the documentation to help others, but you have NO idea how much research I have put into this. You're right, I'm looking for a good deal on whatever I get, but I'm only willing to go with KO4's if I get an incredible deal. If I'm going to spend real money (which I would obviously be doing with any GT setup), then I'm going to spend the extra to go with GT's. I'm on the fence however about if I want to build the motor. I've done a ton of research on the parts, but I haven't however looked into how you actually install the stuff such as rods, heads etc (I've never built a motor or anything before). What I'll probably end up doing is do the turbos, clutch, and rods while the motor's out (assuming I do indeed need to have the motor pulled to install rods), and then I'll upgrade to probably 2.8 heads, different TB and RS4 intake later. I don't think the fact that I may not want to drop the extra couple grand on these other parts all at once means that I'm shooting to be economical. Also, show me anywhere where I said that I didn't know that you need to pull the motor for any turbo swap (one of the first things I learned when I first started looking at these cars over a year and a half ago). I'm not trying to be abrasive, I just don't want people to get the wrong idea about my intentions from your posts.

Sorry, I thought I remembered somewhere where you said you were going w/ stock motor and GT2560's. I must've confused you with someone else.

The reasoning behind my post was that you said "do I have to pull the motor for all turbos?" Thats a pretty clear indication you are not prepared for this whole process. I'm NOT trying to attack, or flame you. Thats a pretty big piece of information to know though. Are you planning on doing the work yourself, or having a shop do it?
Re: Which GT turbo in my situ: GT2554, GT2845, or GT2560?
so what GT turbos is it exactly in the VAST GT600 car? GT28RS im guessing?
Note on lag. 4k aint bad. My roomies civic is running a full t4 on his 1.8L. full boost isnt on till 4.5k-5K saves lots of gas down low and if I wanna go fast just down shift.

where are you getting that quote from?
this is what he said:

Re: Which GT turbo in my situ: GT2554, GT2845, or GT2560?
but Jibberjive:
as far as that question. you don't need to pull the motor for cams, heads, TB, or rods..
the heads, and cams can be swapped decently easy with the motor in. and the rods will be a bit tougher. you have to remove the heads, and oil pan. then replace the rods using the stock pistons and newly gapped rings..
all in all, you can do it with the motor in the car. but it will be 100x easier to do it on an engine stand

wow! I feel like an idiot! I just re-read the whole thing, I'm am REALLY sorry jibberjibe, I was WAY in the wrong. I thought he was talking about turbos. I apologize.
Re: Which GT turbo in my situ: GT2554, GT2845, or GT2560?
Don't worry about it bro. And thanks for the info Sean.
Oh, and I'll most likely be having someone install it for me, but if I haven't sold my A4 by then, then I may drive that and attempt it myself (I know I'm going to get hella comments about how I should not try this cause I'm ill informed or a noob or whatever, but it's all good.)
