yup its an inno. i picked it up at a local rack shop. jayson161 they are Team Dynamics Racing pro race in a 17" cause our roads got really bad this winter. would be gettin some 19"s for summer but im sellin the car
I love Colin's old AVant. His car is what made me decide to go with S4 trim (minus the blades). Now I just need some nice Alcons.
Here are some of my favorite photos with mine in the middle. Good old road trip down to WV to go white water rafting last summer.
last winter:
last week (shitty iPhone twilight photo):
I'm rocking the ancient Yakima Spacecase. Its around 21cu ft and this particular one was originally purchased by my friend with the A6 AVant back in the mid '90s. I've retrofitted it with the '07 Thule mounting system and am using McMaster Carr gas struts to aid in opening and some marine cement to keep it watertight. I can still hold three bikes on the roof with the box and cut-down cross-bars. The best part is it holds a 29inch mountain bike wheel. That's how wide "it" is.
I've also got the cross-bars as far FWD as possible. The rear trunk hatch doesn't hit. Its super stable up at 100+ mph (I never take the cargo box off).

This easily holds 5 sets of skis and poles. Not sure the 5 of us inside the wagon fit as easily though
Used a Garmin 76CSx handheld GPS from both the front and backseats without any signal loss - that included being in the middle portion of the backseat as well.

I fit two Burton Wheelie Lockers stuffed with boards, gear and boots. Duffel bag and misc items. Also have used it like a truck bed..transporting tower speakers, atv tires you name it.
I have a Thule Evolution 1600, I will see if i can find a pic. Its the perfect size for snowboards. Fits great on the roof with no overhang in the front and hatch opens in the back.
I have the Atlantis 2100 (originally for our Touareg)...might test fit on my car to see if it looks way too big or not. It's only 1" taller and about 7" longer.

You should be just fine. I never had a reception problem with my NAV and the receiver was under/behind the dash. The rooftop antenna is much more exposed with a box on top than where mine was located. Just do that shit.
A couple of old pictures from last summer. Box is a Thule Atlantis 1600 (carbon fibre look) with Audi roof bars. Hatch opens without interference with the back of the box, and the front overhang isn't too big.
I have a Yakima box on my Avant that was the smallest that I could find that fit 4 snowboards in it, I think it's the SpaceBooster but I'm not sure right now. I can also fit 2 big mountain bikes on the rack at the same time as the box.
So nobody's had any trouble with NAV or XM reception after putting a box up there?
I appreciate hearing the responses so far, seems like it's not affected much, but I can't tell if the people who said that had NAV and/or XM. Will be using the cargo box on the same trips I'd want the nav and XM...
Re: So nobody's had any trouble with NAV or XM reception after putting a box up there
the only time I have had any issues with the Sat radio is if I have a stroller or pack-n-play up there. The Sat-Nav has always worked perfectly and I have never dropped below 4 connections.

Will just keep our non-metallic gear up there, or try to keep the box off to the side, or maybe get a shorter box and leave the shark fin partially exposed.
Hey guys. I just got an Atlantis 1600 and am experiencing some whistling when I hit near 40mph. Do any of you guys get this? It's a little annoying, wondering if there's a fix.
Depending on your type and positioning of bars and/or box, whistling may be better or worse. On our car, for example, with the bars where they are now, there's whistling even without a box. But you're putting a fairly major obstruction to airflow up there with a box, so I don't think you can expect it to be totally silent. A fairing certainly can help, but positioning one can be very tricky on our cars with the sunroof and lengthwise roof bars where they are. Try also moving the bars and box back a bit and see if that helps.
I figured it out. It wasn't the box, it's the aero feet. I covered the feet with a bunch of tape and the whistling went away. You'd think Thule would have did some testing and made a design that prevented whistling. I'll have to rig something up to look better instead of all that tape.
Are there any boxes that are narrow enough to have a bike tray on each side and the box in the middle.
