Any way to default the traction control system to OFF?
Guys,
Just curious if there is a way with the VAG-COM to make both stages of the traction control system to default to OFF instead of having to hold the button down for 5-10 seconds.
I would rather be able to just press the button once to turn the system back on if I feel it's necessary.
Thanks,
 b

I don't have the answer you're looking for but, is the RS4 different than the S4? I thought I only had to press the button to turn off traction control. This is the first I've heard of holding it for 5-10 seconds.

I'm pretty sure that clicking it rather than holding it just turns it down a little, it doesn't turn it off.

Pressing it turns off traction control but leaves advanced ESP activated. Keeping it pressed more than 3 seconds completely disables ESP

Good to know. If I ever tried to disable it, I would've wondered why it didn't turn off.

Does this go for the S along with the RS? I thought if you just pressed it it went off, at least for the S.

you cannot turn th S4 traction all the way off. holding it has no effect. the rs4 has 2 stage traction

ahhh, screw that. my RX-8 had "two stage" traction like the RS4, and you could either click or push and hold the DSC button to toggle them... and my RX-8 was half the price of my S4

I dont know guys... it does SOMETHING. Im in the habit of jumping in, starting, and pushing that traction control button on instinct just as regularly as I put my seatbelt. Im sure you all notice the lil yellow illuminated icon in the HUD that means 'DONT SPIN OUT DUMMY!'. That comes on when you push and release that button. BUT... after reading this thread I tried the 10 second thing. Turned on the car... pushed down and HELD that button and counted to 10 slowly. Release it. No light. Push it again. No light. Lights gone. Completely gone. Until I power off and back on again.
So whats the verdict? Two stage traction control? or ... did I find 'snooty wife mode'? You know... "YES honey! Traction control IS on! Look the LIGHT ISNT LIT!! I dont know WHY the tires chirped like that!'
Check it out guys. See if you get the same result.

Yes, what it does is turn it back on. ON the A and S series cars if you hold it for 10 seconds the trac control goes back on. That switch is meant for momentary pressing to turn some of the esp function off. The RS cars allow multiple stages and allows more disabling but to date NO audi car allows full disabling of all functions (ESP, EDL, ASR, EBD)
