Page 2 & 3 on this pdf link shows the 4.2 is different part #s from the 6 cyl and that facelift is different too. Not sure if that means they will not fit or not, but they are different part #s... I know the Allroad lights fit my 2001, but not sure about the A6 lights cross compatibility.. Drive around and find a 4.2, a post facelift and a pre and compare
I will chime this in, make sure when the lights are out you black out that chrome strip under the lights too.. It attaches with plastic snaps to the bumper. Sand it good so it sticks then prime it & spray it black...

Are there any specialty paint shops around your area? They should be able to get your paint color with the paint code that should be on the inside of your door.
I think that'd look really good!
Yea, if you can...definitely get high-heat engine enamel.

well I can find someone to get me the paint no problem... but I dont see how I would put that paint on (since it would probably be brush on?) also i dont know if they would be able to get me that paint in engine enamel. Does engine enamel stick to plastic? I always thought it was just for metal?

ahh..hmm...if anything...you can probably get a spray gun and go that route. might require some more paint for this project, but might actually be worth it!
I've always used engine enamel for my headlights. works like a charm.
You can find your car color by paint code, and then order it in a spray can. Use that to spray most sections, and for the ribs in the bottom of the headlight the easiest is to paint by hand. I suggest spraying the paint into the inside of the cap, or a small cup. Then paint on multiple coats with cutips. It worked for painting mine black.

nice find!!!
now that paint wont be heat resistant though :(
shouldn't lights be painted with heat resistant paint?
I painted the insides of mine with regular indoor/outdoor rattle cans. My friend Mike did his the same and had absolutely no problems with it. People spray the insides of their headlights body color all the time on VW's. None of them use hi-temp paint, even on OEM HID's.
If you are going body color, I would probably suggest a primer. Also, buy some red scotch brite pads and scuff up the areas to be painted pretty well. Be careful using painters tape to mask off areas not to be painted, it will pull up the chrome. Basically all tape does. Some people have used clear, others have not. It's inside a housing, so it won't get all the effect of weather and fade. But it also won't look glossy.
Something that I think would look good, is to spray the outer trim of the headlight(inside the housing) body color, and then spray the actual projector area and turn area black. So it's not TOO much body color on the front end, but just enough to stand out.
I just removed my headlights last night and i wanted to kill myself, alot of tedious and annoying mistakes....one being my t25 wasnt long enough and the extension was to fat for the hole....then after rolling the hole open a bit to make it fit, i found a slimmer extension. then after a couple hours of removing them (wiring harness took forever, grime sealed it...) i find out that the bulbs i had ordered the guy sent me the wrong size, which infuriated me more..(didnt know what d2s looked like so i assumed i recieved the correct size) by 3 am i was fighting to put the passenger side headlight in...the driver side was very easy, was able to wiggle my hands in to recieve the 3rd screw...for the passenger side, not so much because of the air box i was unable to put the 3rd screw back in...i got it out by a fluke...fell out under the bumper, but i cant manage to get it back in.so i left it out for now, im gonna put it in tonight >,<

awww man!!!! that's the worst!!!
well...good news is that you know how to take them out a little better now right?
I was lucky because my acura TL had the D2S bulbs so when I sold the TL, i took out the bulbs and popped them into the A6.

yeah i got it back very easy last night...i was able to wiggle my hand in there after loosening the air box...i now know the secrets to doing my headlights I was able to get both of them out and back in 2 hours compared to 6 the previous night so im a bit happier...only then i noticed condensation on my driver side, which infuriated me more so i guess i have an excuse to paint the inside and reseal it i also noticed that i DO have the little punch out hole in my highbeam region and im quite interested in sticking an LED in there. Is there a write-up about it?

wow asix nice write up.. im likin this mod here.. will add some contrast to the front of the car.. you said there is no loss in lighting?
Hey Rich,
Thanks for the comment! I put in 6000k HID headlights which doesn't give as good of an output as the stock 4300k, but man oh man do I light up the roads at night A-ok! In my personal opinion, it gives a little more aggressive look when the light beam is coming straight from the projectors and not reflecting off of the chrome on the inside.
Definitely my two cents...that's why I keep doing the black housing headlights with all of my cars. Here's a picture of my old TL with the black headlight mod.
I'm looking to do this mod myself, most likely today =) My question is, I picked up 2 types of Silicone, and I'm not sure if either will serve my purpose for resealing the headlights
wow very nice! is that a little LED bulb inside the hi beam area?

Those are city lights. If you take a look at the high beam portion of your headlights there is a spot to place the bulb. Standard i believe in Europe.....not in teh US
Link to the B7 A4 forums with a decent DIY of the install. A6 of course would be a little different....but you get the idea.
Hey guys, I’ve been out of the loop for a while as I just stepped into a director role @ work and launched my SEO consulting company last month. I thought it’d be nice to share some pics with you guys to share what new additions I’ve made to the car. I’ve done a lot of work for the front.
Blacked out headlights (you guys knew that one already)
LED strips inside headlight housing hooked up to my interior lighta
Custom DIY honeycomb mesh upper/lower grills
Cupra Lip
I probably should’ve went to a beach or something to get a more exotic background, but my house will have to do for now.
Enjoy fellas!
