    Question 2006 Audi A4 S-Line - 2.0T or 3.2???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,

Just looking for opinions here. Ideally I would like to get a 2006 S4, but unfortunately I cannot afford one. So I am going with the next best thing, in my mind, a 2006 A4 with S-Line package. Now even though there will be groans and grunts, I have decided to get an automatic transmission. I am lazy and do not plan to race or drive extremely fast, that is my reasoning.

My question is, should I get the A4 with the 2.0T or the 3.2? Please give me your opinion and a reason why you feel that way.

Thanks in advance for the the help!

i have a auto 3.0. im just going to drop and slap some wheels on it. if you want performance go with the 2.0 and get in stick. if you get the 2.0 in auto, inside you will wish you got stick. keep it simple.

I really do not think I am going standard. I do not know how to drive it, I am really lazy, and I am not the kind of guy who rolls up to people and races them or floors it on the highway to see how fast I can go 0-60. Automatic just seems more sensible for me.

If you're not planning to mod go with the 3.2. I'm happy with mine. 255hp is enough for me.......

agreed... if you're not modding... go with the 3.2...

modding.... definitely 2.0T... you can probably get the 2.0T to go faster with just a chip, right?

LOL you are right, no one has love for the autos. I would get the 2.0T just in case I did want to do some modding, but if someone found out I am modding an auto, I may be beheaded!

i have a tip 2.0T and if you are willing/going to chip it, then you should get a 2.0T, it will be a cheaper price tag than the 3.2 and its only 700 or so to chip it, if you dont want to do anything to the engine then get the 3.2

I'm tempted to say go with the 3.2 if you're not going to mod, but in light of what the above poster said, I would roll 2.0T and chip it. You'll get the power of the 6 cyl. and a bit better gas mileage along with a cheaper price tag.

^^^true, but he doesn't sound like the type that wants to deal with torn dv's, failed pcvs, boost leaks, and having the dealer void any kind of warranty work.

    Re: 2006 Audi A4 S-Line - 2.0T or 3.2???

^^^You can read me like a book. I am tempted to go 2.0T for the gas mileage, and to at elast leave the possibility open for mods. But if by modding the car I am risking anything serious, then I most likely will not do it. I have been saving up for awhile, and I am graduating from college in May, so I have money for the car and maybe $1-2k for upgrades, but not much let over for repairs!

I am from upstate NY near Albany, so anyone who has been there and knows the terrain can help me out a little better. It's mostly suburbs.

Thank you for all the responses!

    Re: 2006 Audi A4 S-Line - 2.0T or 3.2???

    Hey guys,

After reading more about it, it seems that an automatic tranny pairs better with the 3.2. I have heard a lot of complaints about auto 2.0T's being shaky when they are idle. And even though I would like the option to mod, I most likely will not mod the car. So I think I am leaning towards the Auto 3.2. Now I found a 2006 A4 3.2 with the S-Line Package along with the features that I want in a car, but it has almost 37k miles on it. Is 37k way too much for a 2006? Also he is asking $29,900 for it, here are the specs, what should I counter offer?

FULLY LOADED ($49k MSRP) 2006 A4 3.2 (270 HP) w/ S-Line sports package, Tiptronic automatic transmission, paddle shifters, front + rear heated seats, DVD navigation w/ voice control, premium sound w/ XM radio, 6 CD changer and 2 SD card readers for MP3''s, convenience package, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth wireless phone connecvitiy, auto-rain sensors, bi-xenon headlights, 18'' S4 rims, tire pressure monitor, sunroof + more. Quattro is great in the snow. 0 accidents, non smoker, excellent condition inside + out .

Warranty good until 50k miles, car currently has 36,xxx miles on it. Rotors and brake pads just replaced at 35k checkup. Kept in a heated garage it's entire life.

Thanks for the help so far!

considering it doesnt have a CPO 100k warranty from audi, i would counter with an offer of 28k and thats def reasonable

ya I was def not planning to pay over 28k for it. I may even offer lower. There is just so many miles for a 2 1/2 year old car. This car is exactly what I wanted though, automatic 3.2, navigation, plus lots of technology extras, love the color...but those damn miles!

    Re: 2006 Audi A4 S-Line - 2.0T or 3.2???

I was in the same boat as you OP.

I got myself a 3.2 Sline with all the trimmings, although I bought mine new and paid around 42 on an end of year close out on an 07 model, so I'm sitting there looking at your price of below 30k and think that is a freakin steal.

Plus the fact that it is going to be near impossible to find that same car in used form I would say again in the area.

I too am in Upstate NY, and I would say the power of the 3.2 makes the hill climbings and especially in the winter a breeze. No problems so far at all with the automatic and I would say the power is enough to have some fun while at the same time overcome the weight of the car.

I always hear about how heavy it is, but really I can't tell it as being a problem at all. I believe if the engine was weaker it would have been a lot more noticeable.

Im at about 7k miles and have been sitting at 20mpg every tank, so I would say expect that to be the minimum you would get and possible a couple mpg more, if that. Definitely not above 25.

    Re: 2006 Audi A4 S-Line - 2.0T or 3.2???

    Thanks for your post, typerlover.

It is comforting to here someone in my situation. If the car in question had 10k less miles on it, I would already own it. I am absolutely in love with the car, I just am weary about by a 2006 car that already has almost 37k miles on it. I may have to settle however because I cannot seem to find many 2006 A4 S Line 3.2 automatic with the packages that this car has.

I just emailed the seller to see what kind of miles were put on the car, I'm guessing mostly highway.

typerlover, do you have an instant messaging program? I would like to ask you a few more things!

    Thanks!

IMO the decision is very ver ysimple and based on 3 factors:

    1) can you afford the 3.2 upgraded engine/price?

    2) are you going to leave the car stock (stock = 3.2 modded = 2.0t)

    3) which do you like better?

If you have a personal preference then go with that. Barring that, the 3.2 will give better power and torque in stock form but with worse gas mileage and less moddability (not really a word) and a higher initial cost.

The 2.0 will give better fuel efficiency as with a turbo you only pay for the amount of fuel/power you use. It will also allow greater upgradability whic hwill further your overal lpower output (even over the 3.2) and increase your power:fuel efficiency ratio.

official mileage per year is 15k nationwide avg. 15k*2.5yrs = 37,500 miles. seems right to me.

    Re: 2006 Audi A4 S-Line - 2.0T or 3.2???

Thanks for the post gsx for the informative post. I will most likely not make a modifications and even if I did it would most likely be cosmetic stuff, not performance. I can afford the 3.2 and even though gas mileage is important I do not think it will be worse enough on the 3.2 to change my mind. I think I am going to go with the 3.2.

Now I have to find a 2006 A4 S Line 3.2 automatic, with the navigation, technology packages in the northeast.

Thank you all for your help, and if anyone else has additional comments please keep them coming, I will continue to check this post
