Yea that is a good idea. I have found lots of post showing different setups and i think I have a good idea on what I need but maybe if you didn't mind i would like to check your setup out and see it first hand to give me a better understanding. I think both of us are running about the same setup.

Yup, looks to be the case. How has the Hammer file been running without the 'required' FMIC? I see no mention of what MAF you are using. Are you running the 'required' tt225 MAF? I finally located an ALREADY modified stock air box. The person modified it to fit the larger tt225 MAF we need (he too had Hammer file). I have been running an HKS cone filter and the noise is driving me nuts, WHHOOOOSH for the LOSS. What side of Cincy are you? I'd be happy to let you take a look and see what exactly I did. I will try to snap some pics of the modified air box once it arrives too (sent paypal $ this morning), in case you are interested in doing so to yours, unless of course you are a step ahead of me and have it done.

Do H-sports if you havent, I would skip on APR chip. What is the gain, a claimed 10 hp maybe? Just really doesnt seem worth it unless turbo car and going to gain a reasonable amount of power.

Looks like my mods may have just been cut short. I'm sitting here waiting on a flatbed to arrive so my car can be taken over to Eurauto. I fear my clutch just went.

It goes into gear when the car is off, but if you start it in neutral and try to shift it wont do go into gear. The clutch goes straight to the floor and sometimes has a shake in it when you start to engage it. I checked under the car and I don't believe any fluid is leaking so I think my clutch finally had enough. I'm not sure how many miles are on that clutch but the car has ~81k on it. I need to go back through the receipts from the PO to see if its the stock clutch or not.

The car runs great I figured that I could get away without the FMIC in the winter with the low temps. and try to get one before the spring and the temp. starts to come up. But its hasn't been all that cold this winter for me. As far as I know it runs great with no problems and without a V.A.G., I can't really log what my AIT is. I do run the 3' TT225 MAF and I modified my airbox myself, it dosn't seem to be all that load and it keeps the heat from the turbo going back into the intake. I live in loveland symmes area and am always running around that way. How about you?

Sorry to hear that man, mine is on its way out the door as well and am looking to go with the southbend stg. 3 in the spring. Good Luck

They are going to call me Monday or Tuesday with a quote. Hopefully its not the clutch and maybe just a linkage or hydraulic cylinder. If it is the clutch depending on how much it will cost I may upgrade the clutch. Do you have a link to the southbend clutch? I've heard about it but never did much research.

That is still pretty low mileage for clutch failure. My last car's clutch lasted until about 110k miles. Early life was gentle, but I drove the crap out of it (probably how/when finally killed clutch)

Southbend with resurfaced flywheel should not be much if any more than OEM clutch kit. OEM clutches are not cheap either. I had stage 3 in last car (APR 93 chip) and stage 3 in current car (Aggresive K04 file) and loved them both. Not too stiff. At least worth asking about/mentioning.

Yeah, winter temps makes sense. Glad to hear you have modified box in there, maybe I can look at YOUR car and see how the hell it fits in there/get the MAF in correct place. I fear I do not have the piece which connects the air box to the front opening (little sleeve that directs air into box), so not sure what I am going to do about that.
I have custom heat shield in there currently, not sure If I will be able to keep that or if it will get in the way (probably get in the way....) It is actually a really nicely made, rather effective shield. It was made by someone on this forum and if I am not mistaken a large number of people picked them up, maybe I can sell it if I can't use it.

When I am home I am usually around Indian Hill/Maderia/Kenwood, so pretty close to you. Definantly should try to get together and share ideas/setups. I will be sure to let post up if/when in cincy (as I go back to school tom). I am not far away though, so could still engage in work/install day(s). I will be home next friday for sure for docs apt, and then probably try to figure out airbox install (assuming its arrived, which it better have). Do you work weekdays or school?! Just trying to figure out when might be able to meet sometime soon.

I thought that was kind of low for a clutch failure, which is why I'm hoping its just a linkage or hydraulic cylinder. That wont put near as much of a damper on my mods. I'm wanting to get this stuff done

I just checked their site. Right you are, 52 hp gain for 93 program. I had not looked at their site in probably a year or two. I am quite surprised they found another 52 hp in a naturally aspirated car.. Do it

On another note, does Dubwerx do GIAC chips? I think someone told me they did but I cant remember correctly. The GIAC site lists Wright Tuning in Batavia but Dubwerx is closer.
just curious why would you go w GIAC instead of APR? im getting chipped here eventually and knew there was a place in batavia and then dubwerx. i just figured id go with APR bc that is what dubwerx does..is one that much better than the other?

Not really that one is better than other (unless 2001, which GIAC offers higher output file "x") APR only offers stage 1 and stage 3/3+ for B5 A4's. GIAC offers a more sequential range of tuning. Chip, k04, aggressive K04 (hammer, J31, PC 16) and then other big/bigger turbo apps. If you only plan on chipping, then go with either. If you might go K04 down the road, then GIAC is better route. I had APR 93 in my last car (2000) and loved it, very smooth, I have GIAC K04 Hammer file in current car (2001) and it is much more powerful (obviously --> K04), but not as smooth as the APR.

Most people will suggest going to whichever is closest in case you need support. I never had problem with APR chip anyways, so the 'need for local support' was non-existent.

And I did not even look and see what year/model car you had. APR does have K04 setup for your car, and then stage 3+. Interesting. At that rate I probably would go with APR.

alright bc i was planning on an apr93 but i will eventually probably end up upgrading to a k04. the apr can be easily upgraded then? or do i have to buy entire new softwear to the point where it wouldnt matter weather i get apr or giac now?

    from APR's website (pertaining to B6 1.8t K04 kits)

"If you are currently an APR Stage I/I+ or II/II+ customer and purchase a K04 upgrade, you will receive all EMCS options for free.

The software for this kit is also available separately for current APR Stage I/I+ or II/II+ customers for $199 or $699 for new customers."

That is nice, so you can either go with their K04 kit and get all the EMCS options (stock, 93, valet, kill), or put together your own K04 kit and get the software from them for 199.
So it looks like they do offer incentives for those who own software.

Hopefully that clears it up some. Given that information, I would be comfortable going with APR (future mods considered)

    Re: Official Cincinnati/Tri-State Area Thread:

I do not see much if anything on GIAC's site about discounts for existing customers. Their site shows their products though, pretty much same gains as APR (for chip, FXK03 ("GIAC X"), and FXK04 (Hammer). FXK04 is what my 2001 A4 1.8t has (I know their site only says FXK04 for 2002-2005, but 2001 is basically same engine as 2002-2005). GIAC's high output file, FXK04, requires use of FMIC, APR's site does not mention this, so I assume their file is less powerful.

Yup kingtr pretty much summed everything up. I have a B5 and plan on going K04 so GIAC is the way to go, especially since they have the more aggressive PC16 file. Hopefully this trip to the shop wont set me back to much so I can order everything at once.

You are going to need the snorkle to use the air box you may be able to find it at the junk yard for cheap, but thats just a option. I know that there are a couple A4's at tresters in milford and probally a few at the other yards around. Its worth a try. I go to school at UC but I still live in Loveland so I am always around here. You could just tell me when you are going to be back in town and we can set something up.

    Re: Official Cincinnati/Tri-State Area Thread:

There do seem to be a good number of people in the area. GTG or install day should definantly be organized. How many (if any) of you have gone to SWOV meets on thursdays at KY Hooters? Just curious, I attended 2 because another audi guy (pretty slammed black TT225, the guy worked at car locators in madisonville (had them do exterior detail, great job I might add)) suggested stopping by. Mostly VW, but saw nice APR stage 3 setup (on B5 A4), and some other sick VW setups.

Thats what I've heard. I talked to the mechanic at Eurauto about it. He asked if I had ever been to their site or meets and I said no but I had tried to register on the forums and they had registration disabled. So I sent an email and got no reply. He said that I could have his account because its not worth it to mess with them haha. The Subaru crowd is much nicer to hang around

I didnt see an S4 there, but it was dark when we got there and there was only one mechanic there. I talked to Dave, he seemed to be really cool. His DD is a 1994 Volvo 940 with a GM V8...

click on Tim's bio, thats the A4 ( I always thought it started life as an S4 but apparently I just learned something), with A slew of euro -spec RS4 parts

it's so sick to see in person (this is the Audi that got me really into Audi's, I saw it when my dad and I stopped by to see if they knew of any decent BMW's for me to get for my first car and this was in the lot, needless to say I didn't want a BMW afterwards)

    Re: Official Cincinnati/Tri-State Area Thread:

Cab509 its actually kind of funny that you mention you were looking for a BMW and ended up with an Audi. My story is similar. I was looking for a GC8 Impreza for over a year and stopped by International Motor Car Company just to see what they had. I test drove the A4 just for sh!ts and giggles and ended up buying it. It was AWD like I wanted, looked better and rides better. Not to mention all the options it has :)

I just can't do the things I wanted to do in the Impreza in the A4...like rallycross :P
Okay I did it once. I couldn't resist haha.

I took it to Superior Imports in Burlington. The owner (Dan) is a great guy and his mechanics have a lot of knowledge.

That was how I perceived it to be when I went. Really clickish, sucks, looks like we may be able to do our own though, F SWOV GTG's.

I'd agree, once Spring rolls around it'd be cool if we could get a group of regulars to GTG each week or every other week just to shoot the shit, talk cars, sports, ho's, bitch's, etc...ha-ha.

That sounds a little high. I had my Southbend FE SS installed for $600 at a local shop. How much of that is the clutch?
