I got a question. What can I do for a symphony HU with crappy reception? Stations that come in crystal clear in my Jeep, aren't coming in on my A4. The only station that comes in clear is some stupid bible thumper Christian station. I bought this car from out of state, in case that makes any difference.
You should replace those stock speakers too. If not you'll just end up replacing them after they blow.
I'm trying to control the amount of money I spend on the car lol. I can get an amp for cheap off a friend so I thought I'd try it out. Plus I heard they sound much better with a proper amp.

Funny you say this, I only get worse reception when I put in an aftermarket HU. With all of my previous Jettas and now my A4, reception is fine on the Alpine, but just a hair worse than the stock unit in fringe areas. While not a killer problem, it's another small component pushing me back towards the stock unit (the other being aesthetics). I'm planning to run a sound processor after the HU in Bose mode. We'll see if it can compete with the sound of the Alpine...
I have the Bose system, and i'm about to replace the HU with a non-Bose system. Will by ebay VAG-cable allow me to program it? Anyone know the procedure for a B6 Symphony II?
I gotta say that this is the most detailed, most explanatory information guide for the upgrade of the Audi stereo! I have the Bose 5-CD changer and the 2 issues is that it doesn't have an AUX IN and does not play MP3's. Amazing, thank you!
The keys are cheap, 3 bucks on ebay!!! just get them its easy to do...I have a problem someone might be able to help out with, My avic d2 is not powering on...i have power to the yellow wire on the harness!! but the red (acc) wire on my aftermarket harness gets no power when the keys turned...IDK if im missing something I tested with a voltmeter and checked the ground wire but it just sont go on and idk why!..If someone can let me knwo which wire on the factory 2002 a4 symphony unit is the acc maybe i can splice it in or check for power when the key turns? Thanks
Hi everyone! Just a quick question. I have a 1998 Audi A4 2.8Q. I have Bose (that blows) concert system in my car. I know for sure that the problem is the headunit. I just recieved an Alpine CDA-105 headunit. I also got Metra adapter for Audi/Bose amplified systems. I am just waiting for the Metra dash kit. Is installation pretty much straight forward with the Metra adapter? Also, I do not know if it was mentioned before, but, will my speakers/subwoofers still work (located on the rear deck)? I am a complete dummy with car audio, but I just hate the Audi/Bose stock headunit. My friends will help me with the install. However, are there any things that I should be aware of when installing this headunit and the Metra adapter? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Has anyone figured out how to keep the DIS radio info when you install an aftermarket HU. It my be a little thing, but that top part being off looks really annoying
There is no way to do this from the off the shelf aspect.

The antenna amplifier is know to crack and go dead, so replacing that should remedy the problem. Also make sure the antenna is connected to the back of the HU properly.

Is there any aftermarket replacement for the antenna amplifier 8E5 035 225 D or can you fix it by changing some component? (I see that the crack in the black top material is quite common, probably due to some heating problem..)
to all with bad radio reception, check out jbrentd's post on page 3 of this thread. i did the same thing he did, you need that power antenna adapter. made a world of difference, my reception's great.
my question is as follows: I have an Avant. I have an aftermarket head unit and amp installed. I've replaced the rear door speakers, but not run new wires to them. I want the aftermarket amp to power rear speakers, can I run speaker wires from my amp to the stock amp location and tap into the stock wires to the rear door speakers there? It's much easier than running new wires through the doors all the way to the speakers.
I need some help if anyone can..... I had an Alpine double din installed in my car and I know that one or two wires were re-pinned to work with the features of the Alpine. Does anyone have a picture of what the stock harnesses are supposed to look like possibly?
I'm in a similar situation with my 2004 A4 non-bose. I just picked up the car and the PO had an Alpine HU installed and a Parrot bluetooth thingy, I picked up an oem Symphony 2 from ECS to put back in (b/c the Alpine's ipod adapter sucks and doesn't let you control things from the ipod, and there's also a bad ground somewhere causing all sorts of noise).
I pulled the aftermarket stuff out to take a look and it was a mess back there, wires were spliced and taped in every which direction, I didn't cut anything b/c I want to make sure I can see where each wire is supposed to go before I try to connect the oem HU (with USA Spec ipod adapter). So if anyone has a picture of the harnesses unmolested I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
I have searched and found no real answer. I am getting ready to rip out my entire BOSE system. Replacing the headunit with a double din, 5.25" Rainbow components for the doors, Rainbow 10" sub, and Two Rainbow amps. My question is when I install everything will I need to run new wires for each speaker in the doors. I ask because of the plugs that are in the door jams. I thought they were straight wires and not plugs until I had the car repainted recently. So I was wondering if I just use the factory wiring to the speakers or do I need to rewire them.

You can reuse the wiring. Tap it by the factory amp on the right side of the trunk.
