Can you take a picture? It might be the ground. There should be a wire diagram on your radio.

I found a picture from one of the links earlier on this page. The picture says that this is a diversity antenna plug. I'm not sure how to integrate this into my pioneer avh p4000dvd that i want to install
Ah, that. I didn't connect it during my install. I'm not sure if it's needed. You could check http://www.enfigcarstereo.com/ to see if they have an adapter of some type. I'm pretty sure you don't need it though.

I didn't connect that also during my install. Although you can get an adapter to connect it to your head unit. I will tell you that I have the AM/FM ant. stated in the above link plugged up, and the radio reception sucks compared to the stock radio. I then got an adapter for that other plug and it made no difference. I'm thinking it's some sort of powered antenna. I'm not all too worried about since I have sat radio though....but it would be nice if I could figure it out.

I need some help if anyone can..... I had an Alpine double din installed in my car and I know that one or two wires were re-pinned to work with the features of the Alpine. Does anyone have a picture of what the stock harnesses are supposed to look like possibly?

Supposedly, there is some kind of amplified antenna adapter. It's similar to the one you probably have, but it accepts 12v+. Like you, I mostly listened to XM so I didn't care too much about my FM reception.

That's interesting. I just might order that and give it a try. After installing this did your AM/FM reception return to as well as with the factory radio? Even back in my car stereo installer days I noticed that a factory radio would almost ALWAYS have better reception than an aftermarket.

So i finally had a day off to install that dvd player in my car today. I had an easy time with it because the harness i got was outfitted with RCA inputs that i just plugged into the back of my head unit. The antenna adapter that i got wasn't amplified and the reception was horrible, just like you guys had problems with. I've got the player in the car, but i'm wondering what you guys used for the dash trim piece?
I've got hold of the in-glovebox Ipod adapter and wanted to hook it up to my Symphony II, but I already have Sirius and from what I've read there's a splitter required as they both use the same input in the back of the Symphony.
Earlier in this thread it suggests "nsx jr" makes such a splitter - but a review of his site suggests he may no longer do so. Are there other sources?
Thought I would add this to the thread since I didn't notice it in here already. Figure this is the best place for the Directwire diagram.....

Not too long ago I installed a JVC headunit with the amplified wiring harness where a non-Bose symphony II a4 headunit was and for some reason the speakers cut out intermittently and in different speakers when the volume is turned up. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for your help in advance.
If you aren't running the rear speakers and the subs off the preamp outputs on the back of the head unit you could be sending WAY too much voltage to the factory amp and it might be clipping.
However if you installed it correctly (in this thread I posted up a diagram on how to do it), then I would say you have a bad connection or a bad speaker that is causing the amp in the JVC headunit to clip and cut out at high volume.
You can also take the head unit out and take it to a stereo shop and get them to put it on a test bench. We would usually charge 30 bucks or so and this would make sure you aren't having a problem with the headunit.

Hi, I've noticed my AM/FM reception is horrible also, but i'm all stock right now. The post by Jbrentd about the amplifier sounds like it will fix this right? Or should i look to the OEM radio amplifier (think i read a TSB about this issue but i'm sure the stealership will take an arm and my leg). Not real sure what to do, got any advice?
I believe all the midbass are 6.5in. The tweeters are 1in (not sure on this). The sub is a 10in and the center is a 3in.

What does this (boxed in red) do? I don't think my Metra Kit used this, and I have been having issues with really horrible AM/FM/HD radio reception. I am using a powered antenna adapter.

I've been having some problems with my bose subwoofer lately-there is a loose connection in the trunk. If you hit the woofer it turns back on, but only for a period of about ten minutes where it disconnects again due to the movement. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Does anyone have any wiring diagrams?

Your connection to the speaker might be loose. If you look at the rear deck from inside of the car, the big grill pops off. I think you should be able to get to the connector from there. Let us know how that goes.

I think that has to do with a battery and your alarm system. I've seen other posts about that.

my volume cuts high and low when its hot outside. has any one ever experienced this? if so do you know how to fix it or the cause so audi will fix it?
I seem to remember there being a TSB for this. I think it had something to do with the door getting hot and something shorting out. I'm not sure if that's the issue you are having, but you should do a search.

I recently installed a Symphony II+ in my o4 Avant. I have noticed a marked decrease in the sensitivity of my Fm signal. I had a coax with nowhere to connect it on the II+. Should I have inserted it into the second spot in the antenna plug? Can't seem to find much referencing it. Any help would be appreciated.

The antenna plug will have two slots, one for the diversity antenna and the regular antenna... connect the other one

you can make RCA outputs, you just need to make a pigtail out of the low-level outputs...
what is sounds like is you need is an aux input in which case, the answer is no...
Im so lost right now. Im trying to install a sub with my stock headunit. I thought I had the non-Bose Symphony II system. But the amp digrams for both the BOSE and Symphony II are totally different then my plug that goes into my amp. I bought a RCA converter I'm just trying to tap into the rear speaker wires. Is there another system that AUDI put in these cars? It seems like my plug as 3 rows of wires not 2. I have the stock 8inch Sub in my car with 4 door speakers 4 tweeters. The speaker on the Dash. My head unit says AUDI Symphony on it but not AUDI Symphony II. I also have the head unit with the Satulite radio.
Hey, i have a b6 a4 3.0 (2003) and it has a symphony ii stereo bose. I bought a symphony ii+ stereo and the harness adapter for it, and when i plug in all the wires, the unit makes the noise it makes when you first plug it in, but then it doesnt turn on or anything, also the antenna wires do not connect in the new unit, has anyone done this switch, or anything close to it?

Nick,
I saw your PM. Someone has done the switch it's either documented on here or on audiforum.us (I guess this used to be navplus.us). I would do a search on both sites because I know I have seen it documented.
