Post up how many are on your A4...specifically the high mileage ones. I am looking at getting a B5 A4 with higher mileage as my DD and wanted to see how high some of them are.
Also if you post up what problems you have had with them and which engine you own... Thanks

i have almost 103k on mine. its the 2.8 12v. runs like a champ! a few minor things i need to fix at the moment, but nothing engine-wise and nothing too major.
even well maintained, id only go for it if it was DIRT cheap....save up and wait for a nicer 1.8t
What do you consider dirt cheap? I owned an 02 Jetta 1.8T that I did up pretty good and I had a lot of problems with the 1.8T. I am not looking to mod it at all...just wheels and suspension so the 2.8 will suit me better.

If you're not modding at all, then definitely don't get a 1.8t. They are dogs stock. The 2.8l runs good but I have heard expensive stories about calalytic converter replacement and other issues. 195k on a 97 sounds like $3500 to me. Oh yeah-cv boots and/or joints.
well, either engine, poorly maintained will cause problems. everyone who says that the 1.8t is an unreliable engine either hasnt owned one, or the one they did was not taken care of, either by them or a previous owner. for a 2.8 with almost 200k miles on it, if it was in PERFECT condition, fully loaded with qauttro and a 5 speed etc., and i mean, literally not one spot....blue book is 7k, now, its more than likely worth something closer to 6200, in decent shape.
factor in that youre going to have to look out for diff seals, control arms, wheel bearings, sunroof leaks, wondow regulators, brakes, cracked exhaust pieces, etc. then the physical condition of the vehicle. surface rust, tears in the fabric, whether its going to need new tires, exhaust, etc.
id offer 4-5k and go from there, if it was in great shape, if it wasnt, i wouldnt buy it.....then again, i passed on a WE jetta because the engine bay was dirty, lol.

2000 1.8TQMS 104K mi, bought at 100K and chipped at 101K
so far i have ha to replace/repair:
1. speed sensor
2. timing belt
3. front brakes
4. coil pack
5. both rear wheel bearings
6. inner tie rod end
7. numerous vacuum lines
8. maybe some other stuff i cant remember
Timing belt just went a few weeks ago and had to rebuild the head and get 10 new valves (YAY! $2,700!). other than that, there are always little things to repair but the TB going out was my only major problem since owning it (i've owned it since 50k miles 3 yrs ago)
