Oh man, I test drove the 335i when I was in the market for a new car. I decided to buy an S4 instead. The S4 is a whole lot more fun to drive. The bimmer does look nice but so does your S4.
Bimmers are everywhere in CA so they are nothing special.

Re: Bye Bye B7-S4 :-(
yeah sorry..its the Coupe
i've owned sedans for the past 3-4 years, and im ready for a coupe. Both are a lot of fun to drive; however, when i drove the 335 a few weekends ago at the BMW Drive for a Cure event i immediately fell in love. I havent said "oh my god, and WOW" so many times while driving a car in a long time.
The new owner is an Audizine member and im confident he will take care of the S4.
Not too many E92s cruisin around MI yet, nor a lot of B7 S4s either. Coupes are sold out for months. I've been waiting about 6/7 weeks thus far

If ever there was a Bimmer that I would buy, it would definately by the 335 coupe (family man and all). However, I have to agree here that the S4 is amazing to drive and better yet, very rarely seen even here in So Cal.
Enjoy your new ride though. I'm sure you'll be very happy.

Re: Bye Bye B7-S4 :-(
Congrats on the 335. Truely a great car. Performance wise, it is better out of the box than the S4 plus WAY more potential than the S4 to make real power.
I looked long and hard at a 335 before buying my S4. In the end, although I tried, I just couldn't fall in love with it like I did the S4. I see at least 3-5 335's everyday where i live... I never see any other S4's. Plus the S4 just feels more "special". If I didn't already have some other fast toys, I probably would have gone with the 33.
Anyway, congrats, I'm sure you will love it.

Yeah BMWs are absolutely HORRIBLE in snow and ice! I've had a '95 325i and an '03 330i RWD and I would honestly get stuck in anything. I had winter tires on both cars and lived in Detroit....
You may want to think twice about a 335i and either go XI (if they have it) or get a quattro if you don't have another AWD car to drive.
LampyB.
ps. Beemers look stupid driving in the winter. They're totally out of place unless you have an XI.

Re: Bye Bye B7-S4 :-(
Thanks guys for all the positive feedback. I wont stray too far...
That was my exact reason for staying away from RWD beamers, due to the winter weather here in MI. However, after speaking to many experienced drivers and reading a lot of BMW reviews from Tire Rack, i have confidence that i will be able to survive. With the 50/50 weight distribution, traction control, and really good snow tires...i should be ok. I already ordered snows; B-stones Blizzaks WS-50 215/50-17
I live 5-10 mins from work, and dont go on excessive driving trips...so my commute is rather convenient.
The only considerable difference i will notice is the 100% confidence while driving the speed limit on a MI snowy day; meanwhile everyone else is driving significanty slower. On those heavy snow fall days, im sure i will miss the quattro. With all-seaons + quattro there is nothing better. With snows + quattro, its like driving on dry tarmac.

New S4 owner here. I have to say the pictures and videos of this car can’t quite do it justice. It SHINES in person! I flew into MI on Saturday, signed the papers, and drove back to PA over the rest of the weekend (10 hr. haul). The car was great to drive and just immaculate. Everything from the wheels to the door sills to the engine bay was just about as clean as you can hope for. So happy to find something enthusiast owned that got all the care and attention it deserved.
Great car, great condition, and great seller – so glad I made the trek out to Michigan!
I guess it's about time I changed my name on this site. Now if somebody would just by my TT.....

Out of the box not a chance. Not even close.
300/300hp/tq doesn't come close. 40hp is a bigger difference than you think. I'll give it props for a good set of brakes (13"ers) and a decent tranny (drive ratios at least), but that's it. An old family friend owns Prestige here in NJ (BMW, Pcar,LR,Toyota,Lex,Lotus,Mini etc). I've not only driven Bimmers the last 15 years, but have owned my share. I've taken the 335 through its paces last month, both the all wheel and 2wd. The S4 is a fkn CAR. The 335 is a detuned consumer mobile. (Yes the S4 is suitable for Joe Driver in every corner of the country too and has it's upside i know)
I'm not attacking you in any way. I'm just passionate about my Audis, and knowledgeable in a hands on way. I love BMW. They're truly a fantastic engineering firm. They KNOW what they're doing, but Audi trumps BMW. I'm sorry to say it.
Now, I know you guys are about to come back with "the 335 > B5/B6 S4 etc, but I'm comparing the B7 NA S4 as it is of the same model year. The ride is tuned without having to upgrade COs. the Brakes are made for road abuse (no, not track abuse, but no ride gets that treatment without a hardy premium in the $70k+ tier).
So that's where I'm coming from.
Cheers and awaiting feedback of any form - ;)

You know 335xi coupes are now available, right? That would solve all your problems.
As for performance vs. S4... sorry, but the 335 is the winner. It has even proven to be faster than the RS4 around certain tracks.
And you can beat simple mods for lots of power.

I thought about the 335xi coupe; however, didnt want to wait for it and nor did i want to pay for the extra cost. So i spent $900 in some blizzaks ws-50s and decent wheels.
You are correct about the 335i, it was able to keep up with the RS4 around some corners:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-lap-2007.html
If you haven't driven a 335 coupe before, i highly recommend it. If you are in MI or OH/IN/PA, you are more than welcome to come for a ride in mine (when it finally arrives)

BMW 335 vs Audi S4
$39,400 vs $48,200
19/29 mpg vs 15/21 mpg
300hp/300tq vs 340hp/302tq
3600lbs vs 3870lbs
decent back seat vs cramped back seat
13.6@105 vs 13.7@102
0.87g vs 0.87g
160ft (70-0) vs 177ft (70-0)
Also, the 335 is a chip away from numbers that will obliterate the S4. Aftermarket engine tuning potential for the S4 is close to nill.
But in my book the S4 still wins overall due to it's ride quality, interior, and "it" factor.

From a tuner standpoint the BMW 335i has the S4 beat hands down. Dont get me wrong I plan on buying an S4 within a few months. Im not through with Audi despite the many problems i've had with my A4. My frends 323i has had far fewer problems with comparable mileage and abuse. Makes me wonder why I still want another Audi. I guess im foolishly faithful to VW/Audi products.

I sold mine to CarMax for $35K. The other trade in quotes I received where both for $34K. I took a big hit. I would have had to wait probably two months to move it, and I found the car I wanted and have been looking for for two years. It's kind of funny, but I've been lurking here for a week since my loss. :( I'll always remember her, but the extra 111 pounds of torque I now have might make it a little easier.

I hear you man. I'm not trying to create a monster argument here lol. I will say that the 335 probably has most of it's advantage with its weight... hence the shorter braking and track times. And with a chip.... i could only imagine how sick it will be. its definitely worth modding over an S4, if all you care about performance on a track. I don't know guys... there'll always be the split camp. I wish Audi would lighten the rides up a bit. It's not hard to trim a few hundred pounds on a behemoth like the S line. As for the back seat... i wouldn't say the S4's is cramped... its not bad at all.

Right on man! The biggest issue for me is my environment/demographic... every kid age 17 and up is riding around in a bimmer. they're overdone. Audis are extremely popular too, but BMW takes the cake. There are always nicely modded bimmers around, but it also seems to me that when you get an Audi or VW that's modded, it's done the right way, performance first and then aesthetics... and Audi/VW crew go all the way with it. It's very passionate, warm and enviting to the outsider.
BMWs alot of the time are rims intake and tint and perhaps a muffler only - nothing else. They're not posers, thats not what I'm getting at - just superficial in general. My local Audi crew are all into tracking, motorsport, driving to the limit. Its a passionate crowd.
