    Oil burning smell when driving...

Ive been getting this smell all of a sudden when driving around town in my car. After a little while it goes away, but it keeps coming back everyday. I checked my oil filter and plug (zero signs of a leak). I also checked both valve covers for noticeable leaks and still nothing. The oil level in the car hasn't changed either which is weird, i figured if their was a leak id notice it go down a bit. Side note, boost levels on the car seem normal when i get on it but the car does feel a little sluggish cruising 50 or below.

So if anyone here could send me in the right direction to track this burnt oil smell down please let me know.

    thanks!
    Ant

Have someone follow you and make sure there is no smoke coming from your tailpipe on decel. If you do have a hint of smoke the turbo's are on their way out, this is how my K03's went and then my K04's due to coolant getting in the oil and causing sluge around the turbo bearings. The only noticable sign at first was a faint burnt oil smell when I would come to a stop at a red light or stop sign. Hope its something else but worth a check.

do you smell it constantly ??? if so im not sure what that could be maybe clutch ??? other than that if its only on hard accelleration, this happened to me, my expansion tank with coolant in it was yellow, which i didnt know was to be white, and had a very small crack in it and when under pressure, it would seep through and drip onto my headers and smell terrible! an easy way to tell is if there is pink drops running down the right side of your engine cover. that was my problem. 50 dollar tank to fix.

check the valve cover gaskets and cam seals for leaks. most likely the case unless there is some significant loss of power.

I had the same exact thing as AudiSportB5S4: Expansion tank cracked, cheap easy fix, but could be trouble if not detected early enough.

yea but its more of an oil smell than a coolant smell. Coolant has that distinct smell to it that you cant confuse with burnt oil.

i guess, but i mean when i was on it, and would get the smell i thought my turbos were like catching fire i had no idea what was going on lol. the easiest way to rule this out is just look if you have any of those pink drops down the side of your engine on the right looking at it from the front. if its not there then its something else unfortunatley
