Was wondering about that.. Ive heard some people say its super easy.. but I tried opening some tails one time and those things busted.. Im interested in removing my reflectors in the front lights..

why do u have to put headlights in the oven?

u can use hair dryer to soften the compound and pry it apart

Ive heard of people using a heat gun.. but I would be afraid of scorching the plastic by accident.. I tried to open tails one time by putting them in the oven and I never could get them open. I dont know how hot they need to be and then once I get them apart, do I need to clean the compound off and put new on, or do I just heat them back up and press them together?? Im just not confident enough to try it until I have more info.. and I def dont have the extra cash to replace them.. haha!

Well, it is nearly impossible to open the tails of a modern german car without destroying everything. It is definitely to open (some) headlights but this is a lot of work and you need skills. There is a DIY for opening A4 B8 headlights here at AZ. Back in the days when lenses were glass and housings were metal it was no problem to open headlights in the oven or with a heat gun. But since both parts are plastic now it is quite difficult. I never opened a A3 8P headlight but tried to open some other HELLA made headlight (your 8P headlights are made by HELLA) and it was very difficult and sometimes impossible to open them.

Yea, I know its difficult.. I tried to open my LED aftermarket TT tails several months ago.. (Pieces of shit btw, had them on the car for 2 months and the inside started warping in the outdoor heat.) So I was trying to take them apart, for the hell of it, by putting them in the oven... The seal got soft and I could see it starting to come up, but I forced it too much and broke it.. they were in the oven for a total of like 45 min and still I had to bust the thing to hell just to get that cover off.. threw them away anyway.. Let me just say it again.. POS! $400 shipped from germany down the drain.. I was SOOO pissed. Oh yea, and they didnt really fit perfect either... Oh well...

You talking about the hide-away plate that I put on? I bought that online.. they have automatic ones that you can wire into the car or the one I got, which you just have to manually flip it out when you want it up.

Otherwise I was thinking of the HomeDepot, Target, Best Buy parking lot in Burbank off Victory Pl by the Olive Garden and Outback (in case we get hungry ;).. let me know what you think... Once we get it pretty much nailed down I will post a new thread to see who all is interested.. :)
