K04 Installation Update (with DIY Write Up)
I finally got around to installing the APR K04 turbo and all the other pieces (AWE Exhaust, APR Testpipe, APR Snub) that have been sitting in the garage for the last couple of months collecting dust.
The KO4 install is fairly simple just as long as you have the right tools. I took plenty of pics during the install so I put together a DIY write up (see below).
Now with the install behind me one would naturally go into comparing the K03 to the K04 but I cant. Unfortunately I am unable to start the car because I havent received my ECU back from APR. It was sent away 2+ weeks ago but a problem became apparent when APR tried to load the K04 programs onto my ECU.
For some reason (and just my luck) I seem to have a rare ECU that has different maps then most ECUs. APR havent developed the K04 programs for my ECU yet, but have developed the K03 programs. So theres hope !
When I ordered my K04 kit a slight oversight occurred as APR didnt check my ECU serial. Saying that APR have been really good in regards to the whole situation and have offered me a full refund on the K04 kit plus any expenses I have incurred whilst sending me back the ECU fully loaded with K03 programs.
I refused the offer, as I wanted the K04 when I purchased it and want it even more now that ive got it. So no matter what I couldnt see myself sending it back.
So what happens now ? Well the software has to be developed in Germany (by Oettinger) and this will take a few weeks. APR have offered to send back the ECU fully loaded with K03 programs (and cover all and any future freight) so I could drive my car in the mean time, but to keep things simple and not to prolong the process I opted to leave the ECU with them and wait it out.
If the timing is good I am hoping to get the ECU back with the K04 fuel upgrade programs. The APR fuel pumps should be ready to go by the time my ECU is done so fingers crossed !

Great write up! It must be TORTURE to have spent 5-6 hours doing the install and you cant go for a drive. Good luck w/ the ECU.
Its not important what i drive,or how its modified, this is about you.

Great write up!
Question about how APR handled it though...
Being that it was clearly their fault, could they not have offered to swap your ECU for a compatible one and just load the K04 program on that?
If this is even possible, it's the least they could have done considering you went through all that trouble...
Best of luck...

Awesome write-up! I think if I put all that on my car I wouldn't have the amount of patience that you do waiting for software.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments !
The extra effort of taking the pics while doing the install was no big deal. I hope that it comes in handy for someone that is looking at doing a Turbo upgrade in the future.

Yes it is torture and usually im not that patient but i really cant do anything else about it. APR are doing everything they can to get the ECU done and back to me.

I dont think swapping ECUs was possible, its got something to do with the engine code. The ECU must be programmed to work with a specific engine code and im sure they tried it but it wasnt working for them.

Total outsider looking in, but...
- What an outstanding write-up and pictoral. Are you a tech writer by profession? I only wish many user manuals were written half as well. Excellent photos as well....focus, lighting, image quality...bravo!
- I admire your diplomacy and "equal time" on the ECU situation. Your patience is only superceded by your sense of fairness.

No im not a Tech writer , i tried to keep it very simple and instead of trying to describe each step in detail i just took plenty of pics (before and after each step was performed).
As you can see the pics speak for themselves.
