You could but 90% of the time it'd be cheaper to just trade

Re: Motor Swap..
2.0t should fit just fine...we share the same frame...motor mounts should even line up...and if they dont...not too hard to relocate them.
the issue, of course, is cost. you need the entire dash/imobilizer/ignition system, plus the motor...and unless you find one sitting somewhere in a salvage title car...id stay away....just too much. Id rather see someone retrofit a 2.7t in this car than a 2.0t.....a lot more power to be had, and the engine is prob. easier to source as well (but certainly not as easy to install)

Re: Motor Swap..
2nd the 2.7t. But, then the question becomes why not just buy a B5S4. You can get the whole car for around what I am guessing that type of a swap would cost.

i concur.. just trade up if you like the engine so much. If it's the power, then add a BT and save a ton of $$ and headache.

Re: Motor Swap..
Why not just drop in an S4 motor? Hell, that's the only way I'd go through this much trouble.
It's pretty much the same swap when it comes down to it and the power increase is more substantial.

Re: Motor Swap..
That would be pretty cool. I like the B6 style better than the B5 from a looks standpoint. Putting the B5S4 engine in it will be a nice swap. A PITA to do with a lot of troubleshooting but it'll be pretty cool.

I think it can be done and to me its not the fact of the power more of the fact that no one has done it before.
The 2.7T can be done but its kinda going backwards its an older motor
and the 4.2 motor can in B6 form so at that pont might as well trade up
I know I will prob get flamed for saying the 2.7T is going backwards thats just the way I feel....I mean I thought about it also

Re: Motor Swap..
Hope you have a 6spd tranny too if you plan on swapping to a 2.7TT. You guys can talk all you want but until someone actually steps up and does it this thread is kind of lame. The only thing worth the money at this point IMO is a 2.0 stroker motor. The software/ecu is there. The hardware and bolting points are there. Much less of a headache. Any more than what I spent on mine is just starting to get a little silly with a B6A4 IMO. I guess I'd just hope you would be planning on keeping the car for a LONG time like I am.

What exactly do you have going on with your motor. Is it getting stroked to 2 liters? Or what in detail is being done and what do you expect from the results.

Re: Motor Swap..
well i assume ppl would do hw before actually going out and doing it...which is why i find this thread a little useful..
I am debating still if i want to put any more money into my 1.8
or
just get a salvage 2.0 build it on the side
how much more/less power does a stock 2.0 make as compared to a stock 1.8?
if i get a str9 up honest answer..it think this would help me decide

Re: Motor Swap..
I 2nd the swap to a 4.2 S4 motor if thats what Doss was talkin' about. F the 2.0T swap and hassle. Its hard to find either engine at a decent price. Really, if you didnt wanna just trade in the 1.8T I would swap with the 4.2
So what if you cant mod the 4.2 till the wheels fall off. Youll have instant reliable power.

Bored to ~1.9L in reality. Stroked using a 2.0L crank. JE forged pistons, eurospec forged connecting rods, forged 2.0 crank. New bearings, seals, gaskets, waterpump, oil pump, timing belt, sepentine belt, and all the other oem misc parts needed for a good rebuild. Head build is still using the stock small port head. It includes: ferrea exhaust valves with valve angle job, 3651 cat cams, cat springs, new retainers, new hydro lifters, port & polish exhaust & intake side going into the valves. I hope to pick up both spool time and power that I lost coming up to 5000ft from sea level. That's what I am really going for. I don't ever plan to get over ~350whp as our entire fueling system would then need to be upgraded.
*Side note: Got the whole engine back in the car last Saturday. Didn't have a valve cover gasket so had to order one today before the cover bolts back on. Still need to connect the turbo, mani's, all coolant & oil lines, all electrical connections, ER FMIC, and the entire front end. Top everything off with new fluid then fire her up. It's taking a little longer putting it all back together, prolly because I haven't looked at it for 4 months. Too bad I still can't get it out of the driveway with all this snow...
I'm actually going to tighten the knock sensor bolts on less than manufactured spec since I have the semi-solid "stasis" engine mounts on and my knock sensors are maxed out ~29v. Hopefully this will help with those readings. Gotta use a digital torque wrench though since neither my craftsman nor snap-on go down low enough. I believe stock is ~10lbs or something like that. I might go down to 8lbs or so. Shit that's just a little more than hand tight, lol...

Re: Motor Swap..
Yes Mo, that's exactly what I was talking about. Unless you're rebuilding your motor and putting it back in, I don't see the point in "swapping" for a .2L bigger motor for fun.
Hell, unless you are on some ultimate quest for 1.8 or 2.0 L power, I'd swap to the V8 any day of the weak otherwise.

Actually B6Driver, they make a kit for that to make that brutally simple.
I'm thinking of converting my fiance's SVT Focus into a 5.0L Cammer (DOHC V8).
We just want it to be a fun little track toy.

The best part about that kit is that it is offered by FoMoCo. There is one running around here. I talked to the guy at the gas station, his was built by Sean Hyland up in Ontario Canada. That sound confuses the brain when you hear it coming from a Focus.

Good for you. You found a COMPANY that did it (ABT). Sportec also built a 2.0 stroker in 03 that cost them out the ass. These companies have a lot of time, resources, and money to do builds like these. Why don't you give them a call and ask how much money it took to get that car to where it is. I hope damn well you have a shit ton of money to drop on it. Anything can be done with enough $$$. It's a little more intense than just dropping in a 2.7TT motor into the car and calling it a day. I'm pointing out my view because at this point in the B6's life is it really worth wild to drop well over $10K into the engine?
-
Re: Motor Swap..
Well i was thinkin cuz i already have the shell, I just need the motor. The s4 swap has been done to death out here and in the b6 chassis its not doing that well in stock form....I have seen the 2.0t in stock form pull away from a mildly worked 1.8t.Yea its on the driver too but nah this was bad.......I was just asking to avoid also having to tear down another motor........
