I am sorta close, 100% over bodyweight is real strong. A good rule of thumb is you are "strong" when you can do 100lbs over your body weight. I am at 145 and my max is 275lbs so I am not to far off.

I read in my Men's Health this month about a guy named Joe Mazza. He can bench 700 and he weighs 170lbs.

that is insane. He must be like 5'3" or under in order to only weight 170lbs (which would be pretty beefy if he was that short) because his arms would have to be pretty big to support that weight I would think.

Yeah I read that online too. You know anything about these shirts he was talking about? Seems pretty crazy

I know a little about them. A guy at my old gym benched about 300 and with shirt he put up 365. i varies from person to person. Some it add a lot and some not so much. IMO I’m not a fan of them (even though they are for safety) because I feel like its like, ok who can buy a better bench shirt and what person can the shirt benefit more. If a person needs to have that kind of shirt on then they maybe should not be doing the weight. Oh and the other guy i lifted with at that gym was the world record holder in bench press! (age and weight)

i think the bench shirts are dumb imo some kid always thinks hes badass at my gym and wears a shirt but hes weak hes only strong on bench weak back and shoulders.. id much rather have my wide shoulders and dumbbell press 120s for reps then bench 405 again..

i'd wear the shit for the mental gain. if i knew i put up and extreme weight at one point, i would mentally be ready to put up the weight w/o the shirt. i wouldn't be afraid of the weight since i know i has already put up more. hope that makes sense.
-
thats the first problem is you CANNOT have NO fear for the weight you have to go in there like a rabid animal not really a good analogy but im sure you get the idea i use to bench 405 for reps in high school but i have no desire to do that again i dont need to be 250-260 i like to stay nice and trim..just get jacked up before you go to the gym i personally love no xplode and endorush

I can only do about 90lbs over my body weight (170lbs). It sucks when your wingspan is 6'3" and your only 5'11" tall

yeah I hear ya, it is so not fair that the little stocky guys have to push the bar like 10" instead of 2 feet to get it off their chest and fully extended. That is ok though, I would rather have to push 2 feet instead of looking like a little bowling ball.

i think you contradicted yourself there. i'm on a big stack right now (ALRI products). so i get the caffeine rush and all, but knowing that i just benched a huge load would do amazing things for my "gym-ego" without the jacket. i wouldn't tell people how much i benched with the jacket cause that would be just lame; however, i would brag to myself in my head. that would get me fired up for real bench session.
-
never heard of alri products before.. honestly i dont bench i prefer free weights as they work the 'stabalizer" muscles and you can get a full contraction and squeeze the muscles better then benching..

I can bench 5% of my bodyweight. I think I did that calculation right? I don't even belong in this section, but it keeps me enertained :)
Do you think it's possible for a 500 lb. person to bench 100% of their weight? haha.

probably not. i think 500 lbs is obesity.

Re: Can anyone on here bench 100% over their body weight?
When i weighed 210 i was able to do 345. : ( Now that i hurt my shoudler i can probably do 225. hahaha, im weak sauce, I didn't like it though i felt so stiff, i didn't feel agile at all.
sucks for someone my size but oh well. I heard your weight X1.5, if benched you are considered strong.

I can't but a friend can. He got down to 325 and pressed 650.

Re: Can anyone on here bench 100% over their body weight?
thats pretty intense.. i know a kid who weights 145 and he maxes 260
i've gotten weaker now... i used to be able to max 270.. now i max around 245 since i tore my rotator cuff.. fucking shoulder injuries suck
basically when i bench, people spot me on my right hand side only.. the left shoulder can put up, but the right shoulder starts to crack and then collapses under heavy pressure

Re: Can anyone on here bench 100% over their body weight?
Careful with a bad shoulder. Mine is rough from a mountain bike accident and has been dislocated a couple times. I switched from bar presses to weight stack machine presses. I pushed it too far one day and my left shoulder popped out just for a second on the way down. The stack crashed and about 150 people gave me the WTF!?? look. It took a good 5 weeks before I even attempted a press again. Warming up the shoulders well really helps. I take a 8 or 10 pound dumbell in each hand and throw slow punches. Then work each direction of the shoulder. After 5 minutes of warming up they are fine and stop acting up.

Re: Can anyone on here bench 100% over their body weight?
Well, I watched a guy from my gym who weighs 212 put up 425 for max. Then on the next bench over 3 guys came in and one of them was beching 465 for reps. sets of 4 I think. BUT.....that guy wieghed around 265....so IMHO, the 212 guy is more impressive, p4p.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Re: Can anyone on here bench 100% over their body weight?
I was reading through this thread and just wanted to chime in. It's awesome that you guys can bench 100% of your bw, but just make sure you're doing it properly, not cheating. Bouncing it off your chest (especially), arching your back and lifting your feet off the ground are all improper form and a good way to get hurt. Just be careful, putting 300LBS+ over your chest is a lot of stress and you could tear your pec pretty quick.
I haven't maxed in a while (partially because I find no point to it besides raising my EGO) but I can put up 405LBS for 2-4 reps and weigh 200 LBS.
