I'm new on this forum, and I'm looking to buy a used car. Currently, I own a 2007 Lexus IS350 I bought senior year of high school. After owning it for 3 years and putting 20,000 miles on it, I've racked up maybe $6K in warranty repairs but not out of my pocket. Just last week, I blew my engine at 70,400 miles and my warranty ended at 70,000 miles. Now it's been sitting at the dealer awaiting a decision from Lexus what they will do about it. Otherwise, the repair might cost me $9K.

I was hoping to go all out on modding the car and I plan to have it done by end of this summer and supercharged by end of this year but that might all change. Lexus is suppose to make reliable cars but mine has not been at all so I might turn away from Lexus.

My options right now are an '06 BMW M5 or '10 Audi S4. The M5 costs $5K more and has ten thousand miles less. The S4 has 60,000 miles on it.

As soon as I get my car back, I plan to go test drive each one.

So I need some feedback from the S4 owners here. What are common problems the S4 experiences and that I should be aware of when I go check it out. It there potential f reaching past 400 AWHP on the S4? And if so, is it reliable enough to still use as a daily driver? And should I get the warranty the dealer offers?

Thanks for any help guys!

Here's how my current car looks. I'll probably end up with a black S4 so anyone got pics of nicely modded black S4's?

So I just got home from getting my ob2 stasis tune and wow! Unfortunately the traffic was a little rough but there were a few chances to open it up on my hour and a half drive . . .that thing pulls pretty violently! The stasis rep said it'll take a couple days for the tune to adapt and the full power to get there but without a doubt you can feel the difference. The first time I really nailed it and I felt the difference I was literally laughing out loud by myself in my car. The rep says with my exhaust and intake I'm pushing about 430 crank Hp and it feels like it. Soooo happy so far and I'll post some video soon.

I bought the car CPO with Audi Care, figured why not take advantage of my Audi Care plan. Does anyone know if Audi scans the ECU or anything just for maintenance work? I know I'll get TD1 eventually if I ever need to go in for warranty work, but I'm just wondering if you can get TD1 just for going in for Audi Care maintenance?

I'll probably go in anyway and see whats up but just curious on your guys thoughts?

AWE exhaust w/ resonated downpipes installed ~3 weeks ago...also went APR Stage 1. After install, I noticed a weird noise coming from behind and under passenger seat. Tech took a look and thought the stock clamps were too loose. New clamps were ordered and installed a week later. The weird noise was still there, but is now gone. Upon installation of the clamps, the tech said he noticed a pinhole in the exhaust and what appeared to be the exhaust leaking. I've since driven the car for ~2 weeks and can now hear what I think is a leaky exhaust. I took the car back to the shop to have a few pics snapped to send to AWE.

I sent the pics and video to AWE for review. They said this:

"We agree that the sound emulates a clamp not being fully tightened or exhaust paste to seal a joint. You may want to ask your installer to double check these. The picture of where the leak is on the hanger bar isn’t related to the exhaust. It appears to be an oil based substance (not carbon) that is leaking somewhere and running down the tube. If it were caused by condensation, you would see it at the lowest point of the exhaust, not in the middle as shown."

I took my car to the Audi dealer today to have my oil topped off (25k service due in 4,500 miles)...this was prior to receiving AWE's response. They said the oil valve (apparently it's under the supercharger) needs to be replaced and that I should do this at the 25k service. The SA also asked if my car was tuned and said that I need to make sure to switch back to stock before bringing the car in for service.

Could the faulty oil valve and the "oil based substance" be related? Any thoughts as to what in the hell is going on with my car? Pictures and video below:

Ok, sorry about this, but not having the manual with me at the moment, i need the answers to these things because it's bugging me:

This is with the advanced key:

1: For some reason, my back doors do not unlock when i stop/turn off the car. I don't think the child locks are on because if the car is unlocked they can open it from the inside, it's just that they don't unlock with the rest of the doors. Also, how do you unlock the rear doors from the inside?

2: The trunk does not open if the car is started without actually hitting the switch in the driver door. If i go back there, key in pocket using the latch switch, it still does not open. I can't even push the trunk button on the fob to open it.

Thanks in advance, this is my first audi so i'm not used to the nuances of "german engineering"

I bought a 2012 A4 CVT last year and really didn't know much about Audi's. After a few weeks I realized all the options and features I was missing. No Nav, no back up camera or Quattro. Was going to mod it but could only do Stage 1 because the CVT tranny can't take it. I thought about getting a A5 but that was the same horsepower. I figured I might as get the refresh on the A4 but get some better HP. I ordered a Ibis White S4 P+. The dealer has the car coming soon in a day and they let me borrow their 2011 S4. I have to say even the loaner is awesome! These cars are some real machines especially with that Quattro. I can make turns safely and accelerate without my car leaning on one side or wheel spin. Just wanted to say this is nice. And I'm up for making new buddies on here.

It's been 13 months since I last changed my brake pads (April 15, 2012). At the time I had just purchased the 380mm AP Racing front BBK from Stillen Brake Pros in LA, at a cost of $3000. The "free" pads that come with BBK kits are garbage, so I sourced a set of Pagid Yellow RS29 from my friend Mark Link at Frozen Rotors Diversified Cryogenics. They've been sending me pads since 2007 so I stick with them. Brake pads are a good thing to do over the phone rather than internet buy so they can double check the pad shape is right for your caliper.

I'm going with the same pads again, at a cost of $309 for the front axle. I think the price dropped a little since last year, maybe $20. I've streeted them for about 7000 miles in addition to these 11 days on the track. Both of these tracks are tough on brakes and have multiple sections of triple digit speeds followed by tight turns and hard braking zones. You can get a cheaper pad but you can easily go through a set of them in a single weekend. I've got 10% life left in the fronts after this:

May 2013	Audi	Thunderhill	3 days
Jan 2013	Audi	Thunderhill	2 days
Nov 2012	BMW	Thunderhill	2 days
Oct 2012	Audi	Sonoma	2 days
May 2012	Audi	Thunderhill	2 days

I'm also running Pagid RS19 on the factory rear caliper and disc. It's got plenty of life left, at least 50%. It's important to put a slightly weaker pad on the rear or you'll lock them up under hard braking. These are sprung street cars so they dive a lot under braking - almost no weight on the rears. This is why a rear BBK makes no sense, unless you are doing a SEMA show or something.

My driving could improve a bit. I'm still braking 3 mph too much in most turns. I could carry that speed instead of braking it off.

So a good friend headed out of town for a week and left me his new Passport 9500 to run head to...

So a good friend headed out of town for a week and left me his new Passport 9500 to run head to head with my V1.

As posted previousily my V1 has been a faithful companion for my Audi's for many years but ever since installing it in my S4 its been a serious pain in the ass. So given the chance to run it against what is widely regarded as its best competitor I was totally game.

Here are my findings after 4 days :

V1 :
Pros ...
- Damn I love those arrows, its very reassuring to know where the hits are coming from
- I really have grown to love the display, controls and sounds from the V1

Cons ...
- The gross quantity of K band falses is down right insanity provoking. The falses are almost entirely rear K band hits which I am certain are the blind spot mirrors freaking out the radar.
- Odd random laser hits (falses) baffle me. A couple times this week the V1 showed a solid laser hit and the Passport was silent and no cops were seen.
- The V1 gos nuts on every "your speed is" sign everywhere, and thats a real problem when you have a long term construction project on your daily commute and a school zone, both equipped with those signs.

Passport :
Pros ...
- GPS false alarm lock out ROCKS ! the 3rd time you pass a false the system auto locks out the signal so you never worry about it again.
- The rear K hits that the V1 freaks out on the passport doesnt see almost at all, what a peaceful change.
- Some might like the red light camera warnings, I am not so excited there as I dont run yellows and I do know where all the cameras are on my regular commute so I muted this feature

Cons ...
- Obviously, no arrows. Alerting a hit is great, but where and how worried do I need to be ?
- The noise this thing makes is annoying (to me)
- The controls are push button and I find twisting a dial much easier

In the end I am still liking my V1, tomorrow I will disable my rear K band alerts and that should shut out the false alerts for good caused by the mirrors. Then I will make a call to Valentine and ask some questions about the new bluetooth module and see if they are working on a gps false alert block out type feature. I would also like to know why they think the V1 is more prone to pickup the mirror signal than the Passport. I like the Passport and no one would be going wrong if they got one, I am just not in love enough with it to make the move and dump my trusty V1 after so many saves over the years.

PS. Thats my new Blackvue 500HD in the right above the mirror Got the wiring sorted today but have to move the mounting location as it shoots SUPER wide and in that position it gets a lot of the mirror stalk in the shot.

I am interested in buying a 2010 audi s4. I really want a backup camera with sensors. Looking at the pictures I can't tell if the car has a backup camera/sensors and it doesn't tell in description either. The car does have navigation though. Does the navigation package automatically come with a back up camera/sensors for 2010? thanks

Like so many others here have done, my original plan was to paint my rear valence matte black. After seeing someone post their black S4 with the valence matched to their paint I'm thinking I might go that route (though probably with a vinyl wrap). Quick photoshop (with a pic stolen from akrion) to give some idea. I'm not 100% sold which makes the vinyl so appealing. What says AZ?

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you blow up your car. [:p]

NOTE: This is for those who already have the Convenience Key Start/Stop Button already in there B8 and wants a cosmetic change.

I have to say, this isn't a huge mod but it's the little aesthetic touches that make it unique. I can't take full credit for this as I used the source below to help guide me and the OP there did an excellent job with details! Tried to take tons of pics and provide a How-To for the B8 DIY'ers as there are a couple differences.

http://www.a5oc.com/forums/audi-a5-s...l-line-s6.html

With the right tools and now that I've done it once, this mod can be done in about 15-20 mins for the mechanically inclined.

*ALL* B8 Owners need to order the RHD Start Button - 4G2 905 217 B and 6 pin connector - 4D0971636. The issue is that ALL B8 models have the Start Switch on the left side of the console. The S6/S7 models have the switch on the opposite side of the driver. So all B8 models need the RHD switch no matter what side the driver is on. *Ordered from Alex @ EuroPrice*

There are a few differences in the pin mapping for us compared to what is stated in the link above. I spent an hour and half trying countless pin configurations (No Exaggeration!) I was either getting the button to light up, but not start the car- Start the car, but the button wouldn't light up- Start the car with the light, and couldn't turn it off- Start the car without the light, and couldn't turn off- Or just nothing to work at all. After all that time spent I was about to give up right before I tried 1 more configuration and I was shocked that on my last try everything worked exactly how it should. What a pain in the ass, but it's done.

B8 "S4" Pin Mapping
OLD CONNECTOR >> NEW CONNECTOR
PIN 1 >> PIN 4
PIN 2 >> PIN 2 - Here is where the difference lies vs the mapping in the link above
PIN 3 >> PIN 5
PIN 4 >> PIN 3

You can go here to get directions on how to remove the MMI console. (Thanks David!)

When you install the new button it does not click into place, as the metal tabs do not line up with the metal tabs off the original button. It is snug enough however, and you will be pushing the button every time you use it, so it's not going to go anywhere or move around on you.

Here's an illuminated night shot. I wish the red ring lit up to match the MMI knob and the Volume knob, but as much of a pain it was to get the button to light up at all and working properly, I can live with this.

Took my car in today to get topped off with oil because she was running a little low. Ended up going to a new dealer because I was in the area and in talking to the service rep I mentioned my car was CPO. He looked at my funny and told me that it was NOT CPO and showed me the print out from the computer. Kind of nervous now about why my car wasn't CPO and anything else the original dealer may have lied about. (I do have platinum extended warranty x 5y though) I plan on stopping by the dealership I bought the car from in the next week or so when I get some free time to talk to the sales manager about this....and going through all of the sales paperwork. I'm slightly worried they will say that they never told me anything about CPO and it won't be on any of my paperwork. I feel pretty stupid now not specifically asking for 'CPO' in writing somewhere. Anyone have the same thing happen to them or any advice? Is there a way I can look my car up online to see if it is CPO? Thanks in advance
