I've seen off-handed critical comments about this in numerous places, including mainstream car magazines, but I've never read an explanation of why this is such heinous behavior.

From a style point of view, I agree that convertibles look better when both the top and windows are down, but if someone's driving at highway speeds and is more comfortable with the windows up (esp. with a wind-blocker installed), what's the harm? I have a Cabriolet, but am looking at the RS4 sedan tail lights for a smoked version...will they work or are they specific to the convertible?
