I do it. Love the results of it. Glassy finish so sexy.

I haven't in a bit due to time, but I've been itching to get a weekend or couple days I can sit down to detail the who car from scratch. Speaking of, I recently cashed in on this "professional" detailing service that I won in a raffle. WORST DECISION EVER. Car came out with tons of swirl marks; the inside looked to be dunked in Armor All (spent 2 hours redoing my interior to get that greasy crap out), and after a 2 days, the outside looked spotted like somebody sprayed it and left it to dry as-is in the sun.

Only upside was they got my wheels cleaner than they were, which saved me about 2 hours of work.

I have not done it in a while. A few years ago I started using a wax by Klasse which gives almost the same result as clay barring. But I am fully planning on getting my RS5 clay barred before they put on the enviro guard. When I got our Q7 a couple of years ago the paint was not as smooth as you would expect. Had to clay it to get it nice and smooth.

Actually just bought nano scrub hand pads off amazon for $25 for both medium and fine. Tried fine on the lid. Easily knocked out the trash. The GTI lid will be the ultimate test.

With the city-imposed water limit, I have not had the liberty to clay any of my cars in the longest time :(

Nope, looked mint. I can link the exact product if needed. I figured for $25, why not have them if needed. Even for a quick spot job.

What lubricant spray do you use with the bread to stop it getting soggy?

I just picked up some uber yellow clay bars and used auto finesse finale quick detailer as lube. It seems to do the trick.

Hahaha, it's called peanut butter and jam lubricant. Goes really well with bread and prevents that otherwise soggy nature while using other water based lubricant sprays. [:D]

I have been using a Zaino kit for years (on my former G35 Ivory Pearl) and then applied to the S5. Here is there link. Similar to other comments, like glass and water just flies off.

Interesting the only iron out I found was a pool/sink cleaner. Just trying to build up my detailing supplies- hoping to give my A5 my first detail this weekend- the dealership left the interior greasy...

Auto finesse makes iron out , sonax makes iron x. If you get with mops@nemesis on this forum he can get you the hook up on adams products. Seriously adams makes the best stuff on the market. Mops can get you a good deal and he is super helpful and smart.

I'm a Zaino fan because of the durability (don't really enjoy waxing more than 2-3x per year) but used some Adams products a few years back on a Corvette and really liked them. Will check the website out.

I HATED the Nanoskin Autoscrub! Used that thing on my car with tons of lubrication and it left an "orange peel"-like finish on it I had to polish out. Never again.

Clay barring my new RS5 today before applying the paint protection. I know the paint protection is a semi scam but I opted for it when they walked me through the process. It's basically a very expensive detail job which comes with a 7 year warranty against stains. We will see if I will have any claims and if so how it gets handled.

don't let them touch your car, go straight to a reputable detailer and let him apply optic coat pro if you need.

The detail shop at my dealer is extremely good. It turned out extremely nice. Pretty much got it done for free when all was said and done

I have used the kit from Zaino Brothers for years. I love it. Turns out very nice! Only drawback is the amount of time to do it all correctly.
