I am in the process of installing stainless steal braided lines and the right rear mid line is giving me problems, even while using a line wrench the bolts are stripping...was hoping for some other suggestions of how to break them loose. [headbang]

step 1: source used rear hard-line in question from dismantler/part out/new Audi
step 2: vice grips and take the sucker off
step 3: replace & re-install your new braided lines
I had to replace both rear hardlines on my b5 when I did the rear 300mm brake upgrade, this was the plan of attack

Even with vice grips (used different types) no movement, and I felt if I pulled any harder I would snap the 4 or 5 inch hard line. All other rubber lines have been replaced with no problems, just the one on the back right (mid rubber) is being a huge PITA

well then, sounds like its time to get even with it...
cut the line, hammer a snug & similar fitting socket on there and crank it off with a ratchet... or one of those stripped bolt head removal sockets should be of help... soak in PB blaster also prior to your attempts.

PB blaster ftw!! Let it soak over night too, pretty much that was i was considering was just replacing a small portion of the line because I really don't want to have one rubber line even if its just the short mid one.

I used a set of Vice Grips that are designed to clamp the nut on four of the six sides. I still ended up destroying the flare nuts though.

Yup. Slowly coming out of hibernation. Trying to get my brakes put back together. :)

Yup used vice grips designed to grip bolt/nut heads....still f'n stripped the flare nut. Deciding now if its worth even replacing the 4" rubber line in the back right middle, I'm still running stock calipers with Adams rotors and Hawk HPS pads.

I'm likely going to try to find some good condition used hard lines to replace what I've now stripped. The two 6 inch hard lines on the rear I think are about $50 each new.

That's crazy expensive. I was thinking about getting a 6 inch preflared coated steel piece from the local parts store for like a few bucks but I would still have to do something with the longer line that goes to the front.

get comfortable with the fittings and a flare tool... I've made plenty of hardlines in my day when I used to mess with hondas. Shaved bays & brake line tucks/etc... GET A GOOD FLARE TOOL or you'll be sorry. There are several types of flares also...

Several types of flares? Do Audi's use a crazy one haha. Any suggestions on a brand to go with cause I don't want a Harbor Freight one, my riveter from there is a POS. The wrenches, some sockets and air tools I have been using for years from there have held up great along with other tools, but some stuff just has to be made better.
