View Full Version : Anybody know how to take apart the RS4 throttle body internals?

I'm wanting to powder coat my throttle body and polish the inside... I did not want to melt the plastic gears inside of it when putting it in the oven, so I planned to take it apart.
Removing the black cover is easy, and the top gear comes right out, a couple of bolts remove the motor, so that is easy too. BUT the main drive gear is a different beast.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My suggestion is just to wrinkle spray it. I had all of my engine components powder coat wrinkle black and then had my coworker spray my TB. Came out great, check it out;
The DBW TB's are pretty sensitive. It is pretty easy to mess up the brushes inside the motor. As far as removing more then you described, you will need to drill the rivets.

Thanks for the reply Max.
I've never really been a fan of the "wrinkle" look, on a manifold it's fine, but just looks odd on the throttle body imo. I've had other throttle bodies taken apart before and I really like the black chrome color for them.
Where are these rivets you speak of? I don't see any.

it is extremely easy to mess up the brushes, as max said. I took apart my failed TB and naturally bent the hell out of brushes even though I was very careful. I was not able to bend them properly back, they are very tiny, stiff and there is like 50 of them in one narrow strip.
